^Or, instead of destroying a bunch of otherwise useful computers, you could just uninstall iTunes. Also, I like my iPod Touch.
Well if your happy using tainted hardware feel free but not me those things are like skynet and they will take over didn't you hear what Hawanja said it SET ITSELF as his default player even when he clicks NO. Anyway your obviously one of the brainwashed spies, I mean really nobody likes the iPod Touch, except brainwashed apple spies.
I was forced to use Itunes last night, becasue I got a gift card for some music, so I figured what the hell. Could not remember my password, becasue the last time I used it was like 5 years ago, and did not have access to the old email address, thus had to open a new account, which lead to all kinds of tomfoolerly... 1) When Itunes wanted to install updates, I said "no" and just went to the store. Because foolishly, I thought I could like, just buy music, with the giftcard I had without Apple making me jump through hoops like a circus seal. 2) When filling out the new customer sign up, I selected "Paypal" as the payment option. Becasue like I have a paypal account. Upon selecting the continue button, Itunes then proceeded to the Itunes download page. Since starting this venture about 5 minutes have already passed. 3) Me, thinking this meant I had an account, re-opened itunes and attempted to log in to no avail. Itunes did not recognize my username. I opened my email, thinking there would be like a confirmation message or something, but this was also false. After another 5 minutes of fiddling around I simply starting the new sign up process all over again. Not wanting to give Itunes a credit card number, becasue there is no good reason for apple to have it, I choose to give my address. Why the fuck Apple needs to know all this personal shit just so I can buy some damn music is beyond me. 4) Once again, I was directed to the Apple Download page. Finally I relented to download and reinstall the bloated crapbucket that is itunes. By now about 15 minutes have passed, since I got the notion of simply buying music from Itunes. That is 14 minutes too much. Fuck apple. 5) For some dumb reason Itunes is like 89 megs, and takes like forty hundred gajillion hours to download. Seriously it took at least 25 minutes to simply download, and another 15 to install itself. Why is it so big? Why is it taking so long? 6) While configuring Itunes, it asked if it wanted to be the default media player. I selected "no," only to find out an hour later that it had in fact set itself as the default media player. Fucking Itunes. 7) A positive comment - Finally, after more than an hour since I began this little venture, I was able to use my gift card and buy some damn music. I was easily able to find and purchase what I wanted. At least that part was hassle free. 8) After making my purchases, I selected each song and used the "make mp3" option, only to find out that the Mp3s it makes SOUND LIKE FUCKING SHIT, and are nearly unlistenable. All of the bass in the songs, no matter how low, becomes unbearably scratchy, like fingernails on a chalkboard. This leaves me with the undignified option of trying to find a workaround for something the program should do out of the box. What am I supposed to do, spend an hour out of my life to burn the song to CD then re-rip it just to get decent mp3 versions of shit THAT I PAID FOR in the first place? This is what I'm reduced to? Thanks a lot fucking Itunes. 9) Fuck Apple.
Back in the day one of the biggest draws of the internet was downloading songs. It still is, but not because you paid for them, because you didn't
Maybe some of you should go to your local Apple Store and talk to one of the Geniuses and learn how to use iTunes. Some of you are clearly struggling.
That's true. Got three different astronomy classes (Astronomy 141, 161 & 162) from OSU in podcast format, plus video podcasts for physics and astronomy from MIT. Flip side, nice of the updater to shove Safari in your face. I don't want it, MobileMe, Bonjour or that other crap either. Just update iTunes and QuickTime.
Yeah, I tried rockbox for a while, liked it very much, it even had built-in games, like tetris, and doom(?), to mention a few. I also liked to play video that wasn't .mov, pity it only supported .mpg... However it drained the battery, so I wasn't completely satisfied.
so, who does like iTunes? It is scary to know that every one who has owned an ipod views the software as shit yet a) still continues to use the software/hardware and b) Apple don't give a toss with regard to user opinions.
iTunes on the Mac was crappy but bearable. What really surprised me was Quicktime. It's a HUGE pile of shit on Windows, but it ran like a dream every. single. time. in OSX. I used it over VLC every day of the week. The only thing VLC had over Quicktime was the remote app I could use on my iPod Touch.
There's no issue /w the iPod or iPhones themselves, which is the sad thing. iTunes is one of the worst designed programs I've run into in recent years though.
On Windows there are nice alternatives to Real Media and Quicktime that are less bloated and happily play the media you throw at it. The iPod did introduce a number of interesting new features, however nearly all of these have been used in a much better way on other units. The sound quality of the iPod still isn't as good as MP3 players from Cowen, Samsung or even Sandisk... The iPod Touch is basically a PDA with ideas above it's station, there isn't much I can't do on a iPod touch that I can't do on a decent high end Palm. Although Palm should have done some of the things that Apple did rather then walk around like a headless chicken and lose the PDA market share they did.
Everytime I install quicktime no matter what version of windows it hijacks that PC's media functions.
Then uninstall Quicktime and install Quicktime Alternative. A whole 10mb download and it includes the lovely, tiny and quick Media Player Classic. That's a third of the size of QT and it doesn't load any background applications and plays back QT clips in browsers or other QT media.
An excellent suggestion in general, but iTunes doesn't recognize it, so you'll still have to install the real thing if you're one of its unfortunate users.
I'm wondering if people are expressing their hate towards iTunes because they think the program itself is shit, or are they just Apple bashing again. Granted the Windows version is slow buggy and annoying but it's not that bad really. It's clean, everything can be seen at once in a nice long organised list (compared to Winamps endless windows and buttons) Windows media player is a mess, it's big clunky and nothing seems to be in the right place and it's constantly syncing with the internet for god knows how many reasons. A lot of you complain about the lack of a drag and drop system in iTunes. Bull shit. Enable 'manually manage music' and simply drag from the right to the left, simple. Playlists are created easily. Yeah it might take a few more seconds to sync in comparison to dragging and dropping in the explorer windows but how much of a hurry are you guys in? @Hawanja - Yeah you've had a bad experience first time around and there are a lot of hoops to jump through at first but once you have it all sorted and everything is set up the way you like it you'll probably never look back, it all works out seamlessly after that.
It should not be necissary to use iTunes to transfer a fucking music file to this supposedly great music player, fuck you can get better music players in the REJECT SHOP. That being said I have no beef with apple specifically just the apple iPod. The first PC I ever owned was an apple and I had Karateka and Mario Bros on big floppy disks and they were fucking boss.
Thank God I'm not the only one who hates iTunes. I can't believe some people actually use it to listen to music, it's just so unbelievably SLOW that browsing the App Store is actually faster with the iTouch. In fact, all Apple software for Windows seems to be complete shit: Quicktime is slow and bloated, but you need to install it to use iTunes. Why? And has anyone actually used Quicktime videos for anything in the past 10 years? Safari was a bug-ridden piece of crap at least when it was first released. Haven't admittedly kept up on it, but why would you wanna use Safari when there's a ton of other, better browsers? I definitely don't have a problem with Apple and might get a Mac for my next computer, but their Windows software has always been half-assed.
