Well, I have to say that it would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to buy any console from the next generation. Come on, a PS3 costing 600 dollars??? I'm not going to spend this much money on a console. It may have all the games in the world, but I can't afford this much. At least not living in Brazil and not with my poor scholarship.

What are they trying to do anyway? All this online stuff, hard drives and things are really pissing me off. Come on, they are trying to market modified PCs that only play games.

For me it looks like the good games are in the past. After the Dreamcast they have produced only horrendous games. Of course there is a good game here and there, but for me nothing beats old games. Anyway, I can't afford the new ones also, so I'm throwing the towel, I'm definitely going retro.

Oh, come on... do you think $600 is a FAIR price???

Don't be absolute about "all" and "everything" etc. Good games will always come and be, so are bad games. Golden games stay golden thanks to the memories you have about them. Sonic 1 doesnt mean shit to my little cousin, he loves his GTA. That's his memories, the same way Sonic 1 was part of mine.

It's fair for what you get - If you want it all. Else it's a bad price. Really there's a bit too much complaining going on about the PS3s price - It's not like it'll stay high forever. It always hurts to be an early adopter, this gen moreso. If you must have a console on launch and can't wait for a pricedrop, then look around for cheaper alternatives (Wii!)

Of course the Wii would be my pick if I could afford it. Maybe if it is priced around $200 I'd get one.

And yes, I am being a little bit picky on new games. Of course there are good games, but all this online mess has pissed me off. It looks like everything is going to be played online, I think this is a shame. It's not that I don't like it. It's just that I can not accept that some games can ONLY be played online, because in the future there may not be any server online for this game, and it will only remain as a paperweight.

These days... to get the entire experience... going retro is more expensive.

Just snag a Wii and eventually a 360. You won't miss out on much of anything going down that path.

I don't understand why everyone is fussing over the price of PS3....When PS2 came out I went and agreed to get it for my b/f at the time not knowing the damn thing cost $500...seeing as how far PS3 has come since the PS2 console, why make such a big deal over?? With the demand for better effects come higher costs to the makers, with means higher prices for the consumers. It's the way the World works people....

That is if you never kept your 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit games and have to rebuy them...

The price is unheard of for any console minus the 3DO. I even saw the $399 pricetag of the Xbox360 a bit too much but there are signs that they might lower the price of the console within the year. $600 for something thats almost equal power to the 360 (which is cheaper) does not justify the price difference at the moment. Sure it will have Blu-Ray capability, but with all the high-end features you need highend entertainment. So for those who already own HDTVs with HDMI, true 6.1 surround sound, etc. etc. will be able to take advantage of the eyecandy the PS3 will be dishing out. However, roughly 3/4 of the american consumer does not own such hardware already nor can they afford it if consumer spending within the next year looks dim due to gas prices, high interest rates, unemployment, lower wages, etc. The price can turn off a lot of potential buyers and just have them wait until prices drop.

If you can afford it, then go ahead and buy it. Tell the people who would rather wait until its cheaper how the thing plays, etc. and we will tell you how the Wii plays ;-)...

    ps2 was released at $299, not $500. I feel bad for anyone that paid $500+ for a ps2 .

Its all about economies and how it affects the price of electronics. Electronics are expensive in most other countries other than USA.

So, if its going to cost $600 USD, expect to pay equivelant of $800 to $900 in most other countries. The price here affects everyone else.

After thinking about it, though, I think the price seems reasonable. Think about it. Not only are you getting a next-gen console, you are also getting a Blu Ray disc player. By around that time, the average blu-ray disc player for home entertainment will cost around $200-300 USD. So paying $300 more for a blu-ray disc player that can also play PS3 games seems to be a bargain and justifies the $600 price tag.

Ok, but I don't see Sony worrying too much about the GAMES. Of course there is a new GTA, a new Final Fantasy, a new Metal Gear and a new Gran Turismo... but these sequels are more mechanic than organic. In my opinion the Wii has the best games, and if what counts are games, I am going to buy a Wii. I mean, I can imagine how wonderful it would be to play Wii Sports or Zelda or Smash Bros.

One thing I'd like to see, though, is support for the GBA or the DS as a special controller for the Wii. Conectivity between consoles is a great feature (N64-GBC, GC-GBA, PS1-POS etc). I think Nintendo should explore this a little bit more. ;-)

a deal is not a good deal if it doesn't suit your pocket. Patience is all you need to get the target right and shoot for the right price. Let the early adopters take the shot in the eye.

When PS2 came out here in CANADA....It was $500....Sadly it's one of the down sides of living in Canada.....My point is still the fact that if you want the better, more advanced type of consoles, you have to be willing to pay the price for them when first released regardless.
This is nothing new it's like this with EVERYTHING people

I don't understand what's so bad about not owning the latest technology / console.

I'm actually looking forward in expanding my PS1 / PS2 games collection (still have tons of games on my wish-list), before i get another console.

I'll probably get a Xbox360, since it will be officially released here. But that doesn't mean i'll pay any price they charge for it. If it's expensive, i'll wait.

Hey Johnny, the X360 will be released in Brazil, but I'm in no way interested on it. It will be priced extremely high... and even if I could afford one, it doesn't look good enough for me. If the Wii is released with a price tag around 200 dollars I'm definitely going to get one.

I never understood why all this stuff is comparatively so much more expensive in Europe. Canada is even worse, wtf is that about? It's always WAY more expensive than just the FX-converted number.

Anyway, I guess the PS3 price makes sense if you give two shxts about Blu-Ray, but I certainly don't, at least not yet. I don't have a 1080p TV, and I don't know anyone who does. I would definitely not be purchasing a Blu-Ray player (assuming it even becomes the standard) for probably a couple years all other things equal.

Anyone hear about the Sony Vaio Blu-Ray demo unit that apparently wasn't playing Blu-Ray at all? ROFL.
