As exciting as this seems, I wouldn't really rely on a guy who used to have/collect bootlegs of PlayStation video games as a source to 1.5. That's like saying, I burn copies of officially released Xbox 360 video games on DVD-Rs for my friends to play on their JTAGS, so I possibly have an un-released Alpha build of Halo 3 in my hand. = / Not trying to be a debbie downer at all, trust me I too have dreamed of 1.5's unofficial leak debut since 1998, and have tried my own ways of getting a copy, including taking a couple of trips to Japan to visit both Capcom HQ's (Shinjiku, Tokyo and Osaka) with no luck but a couple of greets, and no, sorries when asked if I could possibly view 1.5 as a history lesson for being a huge BIOHAZARD fan and to write a long review. Nope. = /

Also, not to keep squashing people's grapes here, but I highly disagree with this number of 1.5 builds theory whatever.

Just because we got some leaked pictures with obvious changes/progression in 1.5's development doesn't clarify the number of builds. No disrespect to Alzaire, InFlames, or anyone who has done tremendous research and attributed great findings, but there is pretty legit evidence that there were probably 10 or more builds. If you look deep into your research, especially the interviews on bioflames with the Capcom Devs who worked on 1.5, they state that Shinji Mikami (since he was not the Project Director for 1.5) required to have a BUILD sent to him EVERY MONTH during 1.5's development so he could oversee the game's progression to make sure it would be an amazing predecessor to BIOHAZARD. (RESIDENT EVIL) Also it states 1.5's development started shortly after BIOHAZARD 1's first release on the PlayStation in March of 1996. Now if you figure 1.5 was canned on February of 1997 (one month before it's scheduled release) and there was 1 build sent to Mikami-San for every month during production, that would be at least 10 to 11 builds. Way more than 3, 4, or even 5.

Now you're probably saying, well that doesn't count. Those were private confidential builds sent ONLY to Mr. Mikami. Well so were the ones sent to Reviewer Magazine Companies and the Tokyo Game Shows. So what's not to say that one of Mikami-San's received builds were not leaked? I mean they had to also exist on Capcom Dev's computers for compiling and sending to Mikami-San. Think about it.

We can't just say based off small amount of leaked photos, that there were only 4-5 builds. Obviously there were more.

With that being said, damnit it's time to grab us at least 1 of these builds by now!!!!!

At this rate unless it gets a public release (which is next to impossible especially with capcom's lawyers) I will believe it when I see it released.

Lawyers Smoyers. Honestly, Capcom may seem all tight, but there is absolutely nothing they can do when someone uploads it from a public library computer or something that is not traceable to one specific person. And once it's leaked, it's going to skyrocket all over torrent sites, gaming domains, etc. It's time for a release. A much awaited one if you ask me.

This, over and over again. An anonymous, non-hyped, silent leak should do the trick but who's going to do it? ;-)

I think you misunderstood what Alzaire said and the purpose of the "eras" as he calls them. They are meant as an easy way of categorising and identifying the screenshots and videos that were shown publicly.

Someone could collect and categorize all RE 1.5 screenshots, PR stuff and developer interviews and findings from RE 2.0 trial.

    Exactly.

Re-read what I wrote just a few posts back. I in fact clarified myself that I do not mean there are 5 "builds" of 1.5 as in 5 different discs of the game and that's it. There were probably dozens of discs that Mikami and them burned and played for internal review. The "era" classification is each an identification marker for when the most major notable changes during the development are apparent from released/leaked media. There could be, and in some cases have been noted to be, minor differences within the same "era" (i.e. Elza's era 3 outfit has minor changes in some similar footage, but overall other features and details that identify era 3 in general remain, so it's still 3rd era). Obviously any changes, minor or major, indicate a different "build" technically. The problem is we have no discs to compare to each other and trying to classify every single minor changes and mixing and matching media to try and label "build" 1, 2, 3, ~ 12, ect. is tedious, confusing, and honestly unnecessary. That's why I group them under 5 eras where the most changes are apparent as seen in screenshots/video. I don't doubt that, say, they made various changes and burned 2-3 discs during each era (or more, or less, there's no way to know). But the number of actual builds is not overly important (since most of them were internal and likely long gone) and can't be accurately guessed anyway. It's just simply for general organization of 1.5 media really.

Ahhh ok. Gotcha. Completely understand now. 5 Builds, 5 eras of major change. Sort of like phases I guess.

So........ have we honestly as a 1.5 loving dedicated team, got any closer to getting a build? I mean honestly here's my opinion, no. Lol plain and simple. All we have gotten over the years is either BULLSHIT, or BULLSHIT, and obviously all by the same (bleeping) wacko, and you know who i'm talking about. ;) The guy is nuts, and should not be given any attention or even be mentioned in any conversation from this moment on, and should have been this way a long time ago, because that's what he wants. Attention. To feel sooooo special that he has something that we don't have. He's a little immature child who needs to a good kick in the groin so his balls will drop. He comes on here with his fake bs to obviously steer up the community and create a widespread, "I want 1.5!" craze all over again for whatever psycho fetish tendancies he may have, because it's definitely not to sell/release 1.5. He deserves no attention. He is the lowest of the low, and someone who will absolutely get nowhere in life except for having a bogus site that anyone can create with 1 free day of work, and obviously it's all a front to try and collect unreleased builds from ancient developing teams. He's a joke, and a failure who will get nowhere in life, and that's all the attention he will get from me.

Sorry if I come off as extremely negative, and probably just violated some Assembler Rules, but who the hell doesn't feel this way after this 4 year drag with this wacko???

ANYWAYS, if anyone has anything that points in the direction of getting closer to a build of 1.5, please provide some input BESIDES "the wacko." And yes that shall be his given name for now on. ;)

Many of the high quality screenshots on the Bioflames site come from a contact webmaster Inflames knows, but it's fairly obvious why this person's identity needs to remain a closely guarded secret. In addition to fear of being hounded by "OMG! PLZ send me 1.5?" type private messages, they've every reason to worry about potential legal repercussions from Capcom.

Besides, didn't someone once threaten to turn over Goro Macida (AKA Curator of PlayStation Museum) to a moderator on the company's US forum when it was first revealed that he undercut various efforts to buy a later build of this mythical prototype for a ridiculously low price, only to then announce that the disc would remain in his personal collection with no chance of a release?

I realise that in the end he claimed this wasn't the case, but either way I'm not really concerned with pursuing what is a rather blatantly dead end. Instead, let's concern ourselves with the possibility that a small handful of copies are believed to be circulating within a very small and highly selective group located in continental Europe - a rumour heard this far too many times for it to be coincidental.

Also, let's not forget that Inflames' source clearly has a later revision, perhaps even the last known version before development was restarted. We've no realistic chance of getting Shinji Mikami or Hideki Kamiya to hand over any discs they may still have, and I seriously doubt there are any further copies floating around within Capcom's offices these days.

Even after so many years, it's rare that any unreleased game can still generate such a buzz within various different online communities, but the myth surrounding 1.5 persists. While there's a sign things are finally starting to die down a little following so many failed attempts, close calls and near misses in recent times, a hardcore few will always be around just in case another genuine lead ever surfaces.

Considering this was shown in public quite a few times and even featured in plenty of magazines around the world back in 1996-7, there's no doubt that we can at least expect a couple of future opportunities, unless of course the images printed in various publications were only sent out and that no journalists actually got to experience hands-on sessions with early code.

By contrast, there are plenty of games known to have been in development that were never shown off to the press or public, yet were cancelled with much of the hard work already completed, such as the previously undocumented Saturn version of Shenmue. Until the point AM2 released bonus footage of this with the Dreamcast edition of its sequel, even the usually reliable insiders had no clue of this project's existence!

The best we can expect for 1.5 now is just that someone continues to share every last thing we've collectively learned about this long-lost title, hopefully educating newcomers in the hope that one day Capcom realises this present curio has enough of a potential fan base to justify its eventual release... whether as an extra, standalone package, fully completed product or unfinished reminder of what could have been remains to be seen.

Either way, at the moment it's clear the powers that be don't think it's an idea currently worth pursuing, although they're quite happy to carry on seeking any chances to recover the handful of copies it's apparent are still out in the wild, so to speak. By my reckoning, that means at least Capcom hasn't quite forgotten about this game, even if again it doesn't automatically mean they care for releasing it yet.

Just gotta say bravo. Very good information. ^^^ And I very much agree. You know i'll be honest, I was really hoping since you know, the "15th" Anniversary of BIOHAZARD (RESIDENT EVIL) has taken place, which yes as expected, CAPCOM did release a very cool 15th Anniversary collection set in Japan exclusively, I was hoping to see "1.5" make it's "15"th anniversary debut. "1.5-15"

    Would have been nice.

    Nope... :fresh:

I'm new to the community, but I'd love to hear more about some of these past fakes, and what we know is real. Could someone post a summary, or some links of what's come about so far?

wtf are you talking about, I want it to leak as much as anyone else, I don't give a ratsass about any credit, maybe you should checkout my reasoning on the previous leak and it's exposed details before opening your mouth.

He's burned all his bridges by now I think. He isn't going to get anything special anytime soon. Most items he has have been donated by former developers I think and he's turning around and selling alot of it.

Weren't some of the proceeds from his auction donated to charity? Too little, too late...

Yes, that would've been great. :crying:

Capcom lives in it's own world today: no new Viewtiful Joe, no new Gargoyles Quest and no bloody Resident Evil 2 remake where almost everybody is 'waiting for'. Only mediocre to bad sequels and new franchises, with Mega Man 9 and 10 and Street Fighter IV as prime exceptions. A Resident Evil Mercenaries that contains a horrid save-system, that denies you deleting any saves...

I 'celebrated' it in my own way : i bought the NTSC US PlayStation Resident Evils, still sealed.

Can't imagine anymore me selling these gems!!

BTW, does anybody know where i can get the ripped (leftover) backgrounds of 1.5 that were present in the Trial Edition of Biohazard 2, packed in a ZIP? All links i encountered thus far were void of content...
