The continuing saga of me searching for the perfect laptop has led me to this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9371547&type=product&id=1218093383198 All the Laptops in that price range (that have HDMI out) seem to have an onboard graphics chip by intel (as said in the subject) Granted I'm not looking to play Crysis on my Laptop, mostly just Doujin games and Emulation. For that purpose I think this'll do but I do have a few questions. 1. Could this run Street Fighter IV? 2. Could this run a Saturn emulator? if yes to both then I've made my choice.
I'm not sure about SF4, but you won't have any troubles running Saturn emulators smoothly. These depend a lot more on CPU than on the graphics card.
Yeah Mainly it's for running Emulators, Doujin games and maybe PC Shmups like Soldener X and Shikigami no shiro III (Since I don't have a Wii or a Japanese 360) Having it come with Works is a huge plus too.
Well, it will definitely not run SF IV. As for the saturn emus, I'm not sure but I think it will run them without problems.
I found this one for $150 more http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9371556&type=product&id=1218093379440 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 With 512MB DDR3 discrete graphics memory and 1790MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory using ATI HyperMemory technology. Built-in Harman/Kardon speakers. I'm guessing that might Run SF IV I have it on 360 anyway however Shikigami No Shiro III and Soldiner X I WILL need to be able to play.
Intel GMA cards won't even run TF2 correctly. Intel can't create GFX chips... End of story Hopefully they will give up one day. ray:
The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 May be able to run SFIV as its eqivelent to a HD4550 desktop card and the requirements state a ATI Radeon X1600 256mb which compared to the desktop eqivelent HD4550 is about the same or slightly better than that card. I'd say for most other things the toshiba laptop with the HD4570 should be ok.
I have a desktop 4850 and it runs EVERYTHING on utra or super decent settings so far. SF4 runs locked at 60FPS. Saturn emulators, SSF to be precise, runs without a hitch. The same can be said for other emulators too, of course, including Chankast, the dreamcast emulator. Ikaruga is still fun =)
Nice I'm not usually one to get games more than once but SF IV on PC apprently has some really awesome hacks I want to try (like Balrog as Chun Li) Apprently that card can even run Crysis so it should work with whatever I toss at it.
Larrabee would like to say hello http://www.intel.com/technology/visual/microarch.htm?iid=SEARCH&cid=cim:ggl|larrabee_us_brand|kEB31|s
The intel graphics is better than what it used to be. THIS time the GMA series on hte laptop can run games that use pixel shading, such as Morrowind and HL2, but again it has about 4-8pixel pipelines (compared to ATI HD3200's that has MUCH more). Here's my list of graphics listed from low-end to high end -4500MHD -nVidia 9100 -ATI HD 3100 -ATI HD3200 Anything higher than that is better. Keep in mind that Intel uses a lot less power than nVidia and ATI. I have a ATIHD3200. It handles CounterStrike Source just as I expected - enjoyable.
 Btw, I think the GMA cards can only so software shading or something even with it still can't handle games that require shading (tf2 is a good example) Oh, and the drivers suck so much ass. Dual view? Don't be silly. Your lucky you can get a display on another monitor  Basically even the most basic DirectX 9 basic ati/geforce gfx card would be better than anything by Intel GMA.
Unfortunately for Larrabee, as it stands right now it's gunning to be less powerful than ATI's and nvidia's current gen enthusiast cards while competing against next gen ATI and nvidia enthusiast cards. If even half the rumors about GT300 are true, Larrabee will be dead in the water. That, and ray tracing hasn't exactly proven itself in the gaming arena. Larrabee is miles ahead of any of the crap intel has ever put out before, but considering its time frame for release, I say it'll be far from a 'good' card.
My 8800GTS from mid-late 2007 runs SF4 locked at 60FPS in 1920x1200 on highest quality. Granted, that's without AA. I was impressed that they did such a good job.
