This is what I been saying since everyone went nuts about the "possibilities" of the iPhone as a game console. Now finally a game dev has some proof of that BTW Apple banned him and his app from the store, needless to say you cant get away with trashing them right at the GDC.
The iPhone does not feel like a console to begin with. Okay, it feels more like a console than the NGage, but that is not hard.
The share amount of crap fanboys poured everywhere about the iPhone killing the DS, the PSP and even big consoles (had they ever seen one at all?) was beyond reason. They dwarfed the worsts consoles fanboys with their asshatery
I'm a long term iPhone user and developer and I'd never considered the device as a gaming machine until very recently. GTA: Chinatown Wars. Perfectly executed, I simply couldn't put it down and even though I ordinarily hate touch screen controls after ten minutes I didn't even notice them bothering me.
What you say Shadowlayer is true, however Twimfy is right as well. Some games will and do work on the iPhone. Obviously something like God of War won't (and shouldn't) but then you got Capcom publishing Street Fighter IV on the thing. I can't imagine it being playable, but who am I to judge. Anyway, money speaks volumes in my view, and if people are paying money to buy what they perceive as "games" on the iphone then let them. If paying customers are happy and the people responsible get paid, I see no place for your or mine grieving
This is an historic ocassion, I will send this quote to be laser-etched on a Wii:dance: Jokes aside, I dont have a problem with the iPhone as much as I have with all the douches that overplayed the platform, creating a gold rush like web1.0 did a decade ago, pushing real devs aside while easy-money diggers jumped in, making tons of shovelware
This is set to change. Apple are having a huge purge at the moment and raising the bar for quality considerably. It'll take them a while though and I'm curious to see how strict they get. After all they're still allowing me to publish some attrocious software and get away with it.
everyone I know with iphone shows me something new and cool, then puts it away and never uses the cool new thing they showed me.
Well, I have a touchscreen phone too (Nokia 5800) and what do I use it as ? well you guessed it, as a cell phone ! Cause I can not really see it as a gaming platform, heck I would say the Ngage is more of a gaming thingy, than the Iphone or the N5800 is. Cause if you really want a gaming platform and a phone in one, then make a controller and physical buttons for it, whether it is a joypad or a joystick and also the buttons should be at least 6 buttons, cause then you could play quite a few fighting games on it.
I personally only use my iPod Touch as a simple web browser away from my pc (and generally that is never all that fun). I always really enjoy reading the iphone topic at neogaf and seeing people go ape shit over games that suck hard, are quick ports with bad controls or simply really really basic games that could have been running on cell phones for years. I think once DS2 & PSP2 come out (late this year/early next year). Some of this crap will stop and people will go back to playing games on proper game devices. I'd disagree. Games on the NGage actually where playable and fun. Gameloft's ghost recon was pretty damn fun (if only they made a rainbow six game). Also: Tony Hawk 2 NGage > Tony Hawk 2 iPhone.
And thats my point, a lot of people get the iPhone for the same reason they got the iPod: its like a piece of flair that comes cheap enough for anyone to buy, but it doesnt have the cheap-o feeling of other eletronics By ComScore: The strongest growth in users is coming from those earning less than the median household income, particularly since the launch of the iPhone 3G And when the iPhone4 comes around? The thing is, you cant look cool holding a DS or PSP, unless you're like 6 and the only one in the yard that has one.
C'mon are you telling me you cant buy an iPod touch? is 50 bucks less than the PSPgo Except you dont get laughed at for buying the touch...
I would never buy an iPod touch. Why would I waste such a huge screen and resources for what is essentially a multimedia player? I already own a PSP and I always carry around the N900, an internet tablet/phone. The iPod Touch, I believe, was made for the folks who can't afford to go on a contract with AT&T to get an iphone, yet want to experience the rest of the features while keeping a standard cellphone. I m certainly not their market here.
The father of a friend bought an iPhone and he never fucking uses it as anything more than a cell phone. He just bought it because it's hip, and that is what I can't understand. Total waste of money.
I'm going to start my own app store. It's called "iWill Take One Penny From Everybody in the World and They Won't Care and I'll Be Rich."
And what is the iPhone 4th gen going to offer that the others don't have other then more power? Which ultimately mean bull since companies like ngmoco have said that a majority of people who buy their stuff is with 1st & 2nd gen devices. Also 4th gen probably is already set in stone, it would take till a 5th gen arives to try making advances on DS2/PSP2. Also who cares about what looks cool. It's about ****ing playing a video game and really I don't see people giving a rats ass when they are playing on their DS or PSP in the metro. :flamethrower:
