I've tried time and time again to play this game, and it's just so inaccurate, so random and unfun, I stopped trying. The first car you can buy, the atom, is better than 80% of the cars you could bother trying to win.
I too, felt like this ( I bought this for my dad for x-mas) sometimes, it gets to the point its so realistic, its becomes less and less fun as it goes, kinda like the license earning in gran turismo. online is cool though
I've had it since launch and have played it about 3 times. I think the Vegas track is amazingly accurate in terms of layout and look, however I find the game itself to be terribly frustrating. I attribute some of that to the fact that I prefer "arcade-y" racers, but I think even outside of that, the game is tweaked way too hard.
I said exactly the same thing, I did a huge number of races in it just because it actually doesnt handle like a breezeblock on roller skates. It's ok, I do get fed up of it, the handling is just so random at times, sometimes you can hit a corner full speed, and get through it easily, othertimes you just lock up and slam into the wall. Make one mistake and you go from first to 13th and just can't get the positions back.
I don't have the game, but here's a relevant review: http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/pgr3/pgr3.htm
Gran Turismo license tests, although boring, are there to help you learn how to play the game. Specially Gran Turismo 4 and those crazy REAL 24h Endurance races (Ok, they can be done in 8 hours if you use B-Spec mode and 3x speed). Plus if you played GT3 you can import your save to GT4 with all licenses (you don't get the premium cars for the tests, but you don't need to take the tests again. Plus you get some cash as well). I think PGR series is cool, but on the Xbox, Forza Motorsport is better. And honestly if it's fun you want, just play Burnout. I'm addicted to Burnout 3: Takedown and Revenge (PS2 versions) . The Xbox360 is probably even better!
I like PGR, but i in no way consider it a simulation. Granted, ive never actually driven a fast car, but
I think the majority of you are jaded gamers. PGR has always been an arcade style racer, even going back to the MSR days. If you want a simulation or more "accurate" representation of racing, try GT, Sega GT, or Forza.
I borrowed it a while ago and completed it on medium with 1 car (noble) Some tracks/races took some time The tests seemed pretty similar as before It looks pretty But I prefer PGR2 More variety of cars, Mini`s all the way to Hyper Cars. I feel a bit let down with PGR3 that everything is on a plate already, almost no point in trying to win stuff to buy more cars etc. Probably as you go to get Gold/Platinum medals you need slightly quicker cars but then I got quite a few with a bit of practise and the same Noble again. So for me PGR3 only 6/10, not an essential purchase, which is a shame. Now I can`t wait for Test Drive, so far looking good....but then so did PGR3
Heh wow, I came here to post some videos of PGR3 and the first thread I see is this one. I just got it a couple of days ago and I like it. I actually made the videos for my friends since we used to play racers a lot. We llike Mustangs and we used to hit Vegas every 3 months or so, so I sent them some clips of a Saleen racing down the strip: http://www.japan-games.com/PGR/MVI_7369.AVI http://www.japan-games.com/PGR/MVI_7362.AVI http://www.japan-games.com/PGR/MVI_7365.AVI http://www.japan-games.com/PGR/MVI_7367.AVI http://www.japan-games.com/PGR/MVI_7368.AVI http://www.japan-games.com/PGR/MVI_7363.AVI I like it so far. You can build custom track routes, the Gotham Live is great to watch the really good drivers go at it. The "Play Now" area is good, you can choose the tracks, cars, time of day, laps, competition, straightforwards and easy. I just choose the Silver course on Campaign mode since I can beat it and it provides somewhat of a challenge if you start making mistakes. The online mode was easy to get into and start playing right away. I remember reading that you have more early access to cars in this version, which I like. I'm not really interested in doing every race and going through each city since it becomes a chore just to finish the game, like just trying to reach the next checkpoint in a FPS. I like to pick and choose cities and cars and check out how the game plays. If you don't like the super car that they offer in the beginning, then don't use it. I just have Mustangs in my garage and it makes it more of a challenge. In the end it's a matter of choice, I suppose. They have Ridge Racer 6 at a shop near me for less than $10 but every time I play it I feel like I'm playing a Rally game that's on pavement. I want to be able to swing the rear end of a Mustang around the corners and have to counter steer coming out. Real or not, it's about what I want in terms of speed and control.
Better yet, play BurnOut Revenge. I never cared for many racing games. I esspecially hate Gran Turismo. BurnOut though has always been fun. I played the original Ridge Racer for PSX and thought that was pretty good at the time. I would try the newer ones if I had the chance. But I'll never touch Gran Turismo. Or anything else that calls itself some like-like driving simulator.
I understand you. Some parts of the game are tiresome. Gran Turismo, Forza, GTR, TOCA Race Driver... all those kinds of "Real" or "Simulation" games are directed to car freaks. Games that you spend most of the time tuning and adjusting setups than playing. If it's fun you want you said it all. Burnout series rules. It's the most addicting racing games i ever played. Other good examples are Ridge Racer, Out Run 2, PGR, MSR, ... all these are for pure fun. Not much time on menu screen, setups,... just pure gaming .
Yes yes yes yes! Get Burnout Revenge if you want a fun racing game. I wasnt big on racing games but me and a friend (who was BIG into GT and the various other racers of past) absolutley love this game. Its the one that brought us back into console gaming with the 360 version.
I had PGR2 and left it half way through. Then I bought PGR3 for online gaming, did a couple of days hardcore practice and left it. Wasn't too happy with my 360 launch titles, but now I have Oblivion I am happily addicted(slow down, bugs and dodgy tray noises aside)!
lol, am I the only person on earth who actually enjoys the GT license tests? I'll stay at those things for hours trying to get all golds. EDIT: I would definitely agree that GT is for car people, not so much gamers. If spending half a day tinkering with your car's suspension on the Nurburgring isn't your idea of fun, then you're probably not GT's target audience. Honestly, I don't even run most of the races, as I don't like how the AI collides with you. I just win as much money as possible and then spend all my time buying cars and fiddling with them, doing time attacks, etc...
Johnny, I'll have to check that game out. You friggen sold me on it....heh. I'll check and see if the 360 has a demo download for it. That's how I first player PGR3. I like the PGR style where you don't modify anything at all, you just notice slight differences between each car and choose your favorite. The tests are entertaining for change if you want a break from racing. I like the speed camera test around the corner...
My biggest issue with the so-called "tuning" aspects of today's racing games if the fact that you have to burrow through countless menu options and endure so many of those mind numbing loading screens. PGR3 has its share of insane load times, but there's no real tuning necessary. Your car is good to go and that's how it should be.
