A few months ago, TecToy CEO Stephano Arnhold had an interview with one of Brazil’s biggest video game websites, Uol Jogos, where he revealed his company was researching the possibility of releasing a new SEGA Genesis with a cartridge slot and HDMI port. Since then, TecToy’s social media posts have concentrated on posts about its old Genesis hardware, software and other general retro gaming. They’ve also started a new blog to share the company’s history and the relation between it and SEGA. This new focus has caused many in the community to speculate that TecToy has already begun work on this new console. Today, TecToy published a new blog post titled “Mega Launch TecToy,” featuring a countdown video containing many classic Genesis like Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Golden Axe and many more. The video ends the tease of an upcoming announcement and directing readers to sign up for its email list to be the first to learn about its announcement. On the registration page, there’s a countdown that ends in a little more than six days, right on Halloween! What could this announcement be? Do you think it could signal TecToy’s reemergence into SEGA’s hardware business again? And would an HDMI Genesis be something that’d interest you? Either way, we’ll know once the countdown has ended! http://www.seganerds.com/2016/10/24/is-tectoy-teasing-its-rumored-hdmi-sega-genesis/
I wonder what the chances are of it being real hardware.... a large number of these recent retro consoles are just android boxes that simply dump the game into memory and run the rom through a software emulator.
One thing I'm sure about. It will have cartridge slot and hdmi output... now lets see what will come for the design and the hardware.
Some info has surfaced about it from the website VGDBBR. Just take those as a rumor for now. - The new console will be similar to the first model of the Genesis/Mega Drive. - It will have cart slot, SD card reader, HDMI out and AV out - It will come with a 3-button controller - The box will be similar to the one from the 90's - They are still deciding on the hardware - It will be manufactured in Brazil - Tectoy won't manufacture new cartridges - They are thinking about releasing games on SD cards - There's a possibility that it will play games from other consoles (possibly Master System games) - The console wil cost R$ 499 (around US$ 160)
At least this one will have the cartdridge slot and will be compatible with the games already released since the 90's. I don't think R$ 499 is cheap for it. I think around R$ 299 (around US$ 100) would be great. But this is a rumor for now. Next monday we will have more confirmed info about it.
Honestly, the cartridge slot and sd card slot make it more worth the extra cash. I definately wouldn't be excited if it were jsut like MiniNES as we've had that already and then some. I hope it uses some hardware that is pretty accurate too compared to the ATGames releases.
"- They are still deciding on the hardware" Love how this is only the fifth on the rumour list. So, if they haven't decided on the hardware yet, they haven't started developing it... Then, how can they say a retail price?
Well, they could have several prototypes that can be made final. Thiey might have done that to see which turns out best and which is most cost effective.
I put it on this position on the list because they mentioned it in this order in the text. If you want I can send you the link. Tectoy is also sending some pics: The first picture confirm the rumour about the 3-button controler and it seems like the console will really be the first model. The second picture confirms it will have the cart slot.
I wasn't making fun of you, but of the list itself. If Tectoy is announcing a new product just a few days ahead, they already everything sorted out. That means hardware and licenses, the second being the most relevant by the way. PS: Tectoy really needs a new graphic designer... or even someone with a little bit of photoshop skills.
Hey, looks like you guys in Brazil could make some money! I'd like one of these if it's on par with real hardware.
Thank you for the info, I've made an article with all the information I got here and in the TecToy Social media: http://www.seganerds.com/2016/10/26/here-are-the-rumored-details-of-the-new-tectoy-genesis/ I believe at this time they will not make any mistakes! they did a lot of research about what people want! Also for the people who don't know what is goin on, here is an article I wrote telling how everything started: http://www.seganerds.com/2016/09/13...-hdmi-master-system-genesis-system-in-brazil/
It's just a question of if they will do what people want. I think that in some parts they will but I'm not sure about the hardware.
After so many horrible Genesis clones they may actually get it right. If they do everything mentioned in here it will stomp all over that mini nes! The price point does sound rather high, but an HDMI Genesis sounds awesome!
