Given the amount of time, would you say RR is dead for good?

    Been waiting and nothing

Not dead but I see it as more of a download franchise now rather than a mainstream title.

After the PS3 release nobody really cares, or do they? RR was totally blown out of the market by other better titles like Burnout, and totally flushed by the overload of (online cap.) racing titles that came out after/during.
Maybe if they go back to their roots they could be back next generation, but don't hold your breath.
And what A.snow said, it will probably be more at home as a download franchise now.

Bunch of good old racing franchises are dead, from Pole Position to Daytona.

Guess not-so-realistic-racing isnt so big anymore...

You forgot Screamer and its sequel, amazing games for the PC.. Of course you needed a Pentium @ 166Mhz and even today not many can afford such a high end system..16MB of RAM and keep away from the CYRIX processors:p

I doubt it. There was at least a 5 year gap between Ridge V and Ridge 6, and Ridge 7 only came out about 4 years ago.

Combine the fact that there's been 3 portable games since then, and with Ridge Racer 3DS announced this year, I doubt that the brand is dead yet.

Will it be returning to home consoles in the foreseeable future? Not sure. It's likely they'll stick to the same routine the series has kept much of its life and only release one game to each console (thus we're not going to see another one until at least 2012). However, they have been known to throw out an offshoot (such as R Racing Evolution) once in a while, so who knows?

It's now simply just a tech series now. Expect a version at the launch of every console and at max one more if that launch title sells well.

3DS is getting what looks to be a mix of the PSP games but in 3D.
Ps3 is getting a patch for 3D tvs

I'm 100% certain psp2 will have a RR at launch.

Namco announced a Ridge Racer 7 "3D Version" to be avaiable at the PlayStation Store. Hands-on weren't impressed by it.

I think Namco should make a new Ridge Racer, but add better online features. Possibility of creating racing teams, leagues, custom car liveries,... Ridge Racer was always a great game, but they have to evolve somehow.

Loved those games. Still have both of them.

On home consoles, it's practically dead, but it can live on on the franchise graveyard that is the PSP, alongside series like MediEvil, Syphon Filter and Ape Escape (before HD Wipeout was on this list too).

I think just like final fantasy the series is becoming stagnant. I played 6 and felt it was a bit lacking in some aspects. I really think the best in the series was and always will be 4.

Weren't there 3 Screamer games? 1, 2 and Screamer Rally? I remember the first one being my favorite though, because seeing an arcade racer like the ones on Saturn and Playstation on the PC blew my mind at the time.

    RAAAAAAAVE RACER!

I got a PC that does nothing more than emulate the system 22 classic, Namco should throw the game in a download marketplace after all these years!

    A legend will never die!

I look forward to Ridge Racer 8. As Johnny said, if we could get a game with racing teams, online play and more customization then it would be killer.

But don't make the cars look like Extreme-G. Make them look like more realistic original Ridge Racer cars!

All i play now is the iphone Ridge Racer game. The latest update fixed the crappy frame rate issues too. Its got all your fav' courses from the original Ridge Racer to Rave Racer Arcade. Add in the option to use the original soundtracks via the ipod and youve hot one very cool racer with controls that actually work! I play it on the TV a lot thanks to a jailbreak app. Thank you shitty apple with you useless TV out option for ipod only.

The game is due for a major change/reinvention. The last group of Ridge Racer games (RR6, RR7, RR Cell/iPhone and even the up and comming 3ds game) are all based off Ridge Racers for the PSP. RR for PSP was a great addition to the series but it's starting to get stale.

I'd be nice if they went back to R4 and try hitting up that angle again.

Heh. How many courses are in it now? I'd buy it if not for it being nothing more then the PSP game which I already have. =)

There are 18 courses however Namco say that they'll keep bringing new ones as time goes on.

Yeah, the last two PSP RRs were the last true RRs imo. and they both were great.
