I found one at my local game store for 150$ and I'm still contemplating buying it, It comes with Mario Tennis,Red alarm, 1 controller and the Ac adapter. Is it worth putting into the collection?
The price isn't too bad, but at the same time, not the best. I'd say that is hair above average. However, I've been playing the hell out of Red Alarm lately so personally, I think you should go for it. It's also not hard to collect for since it has a small library, and I see CIB games for under $30.
If you have the money to spend and you are interested, sure. I've thought about buying one before too until I realized I'd probably play it once or twice and then it'd just be an expensive decoration. Remember there is a reason why the system flopped. It sucked. It's just a novelty and curiosity these days. And an expensive one too.
It's an interesting system with a small few number of decent titles. The original Wario Land is great.
$150 are you serious? Damn it was only 10 years ago those things were going $40 brand new on ebay (DAMN YOU BROTHER FOR DESTROYING MINE!!) Anyways is it worth it? If you've never experienced one I would say it's worth a shot but maybe in the sub $60 range (not $150). There are a few really good games for it and a few ok ones that show off the tech but we're talking about maybe 5/6 games here. There really isn't much there and probably in a few weeks you'll be done with it for ever. =/ My favorites: Wario Land (obvious) V-Tetris Panic Bomberman (the bomb effects where nice) -edit- It's kind of sad that virtual boy is just one of those experiences you have to have in person and not through an emulator or a video on youtube.
Like the poster stated above, it's a somewhat expensive decoration that will look great on the shelf as a sexy addition to a collection. Aesthetically, the Virtual boy looks impressive with it's stand and comes off as a sophisticated sci-fi hollywood prop with Nintendo stamped on it... but the eye and neck strain while attempting to play it became too much of a barrier for any lasting enjoyment. Just my personal experience.
if you want a nice nintendo shelf item go for it. The chances of you playing it alot are low but who know you might fall in love with it.
I remember reading years ago that someone found a crate full of these, new in box, in some warehouse in Dubai. Anyway, i wouldn't pay more than 50 dollars for one.
i love mine. i still play panic bomber and galactic pinball when i have trouble sleeping. if i had to buy it again i probably wouldn't spend over $150
If you're into collecting for Nintendo, get one. They look sweet on the shelf, and usually if you have friends over they'd ask what it is. When I was collecting for Nintendo 64 the Virtual Boy always wanted a space in my collection but, right now XBOX is being a bitch to me $150 does seem like a lot, but if it's in box I'd go for it personally.
Really? I have a customer who had me buy 3 games for his collection for A LOT more Than $30 USD. (At least 20X that amount...) Of course these 3 games could be rather rare for all I know... Won't divulge anymore information on it unless the person says it's OK. (Yes he's a member here.)
Well, Mednafen does wonderful job emulating VB with full 3D support. You can call me a heretic but IMO games look way better on Mednafen with a lot less eye strain, even with very simple and cheap anaglyph 3D glasses.
I had an opportunity to get a CIB Virtual Boy for $20 several years ago, but I passed. I regret it to this day.
Same here, surprisingly. Same price too, $20. I regretted it a couple days later and when I went back the next week it was gone.
Yeah, there was a period shortly after it was discontinued when they could be had for dirt cheap, kinda like the 32X. Except the 32X still is pretty cheap, whereas the Virtual Boy is not. There's been a steady increase in the price of (some) Nintendo items over the past 4 or 5 years, and it seems to have accelerated in just the past year or so. My instinct tells me: hipsters? I can't explain it further.
Jack Bros. and Water World are the 2 rarest VB games in the NA library. I know Jack Bros. goes for well over $100, Water World maybe around $60. Not sure about a 3rd game.
Don't think there is a need too. I also came to the same conclusion in my head. I regret not purchasing it mainly because I have never played one myself. Always been curious as to what the experience is really like.
Just a quick note but I checked ebay and you can get units for under $50. So unless that $150 unit is mint, I would just get one off ebay.
