Are these really that difficult to install? 4 Wires, with leaded solder it should be pretty easy. And the points don't seem to bad!

They are if you have not solder anything in your life.
Most people try to solder the chip directly to the board and use a 30-45 watt iron.
I use to sell XENO GC and offer install service in other forums.
Most people would buy the chip thinking it was really easy to install, thinking the picture of the install is actual size. Over the years I have done several repairs from fail installs and had to find ALT point on the other side of the board.

You don't recommend that people new to soldering should do the wireless install? Why is that?

I agree with Jinn that noobs should do the wire install. Even myself, a decent solder will do the wire install. It's too easy to mess up the wireless one and lift a pad or two.

Yes, that would a good idea. You can also use wire from an IDE/scsi ribbon cable if you have some lying around.

Any Idea if these will work on the Panasonic Q in order to play USA Games?

I believe they will, however the board is different, You will need to do a wire install, I will try to post a picture explaining how to do it.

Can I just say that I think you would be mad to try and mod a Q when you can pick up a Cube off eBay for a tenner!

I bought a non-working Q a couple of weeks back, and when I opened it up it was obvious the damage had been caused by a bad mod (no chip, but the wires were still there!)

The system is a bastard to take apart, so I would really discourage it, but up to you if you want to risk it!

It's a lot cheaper to buy Xeno GC from ASSEMbler.
There is plenty of Xeno GC stock still available, I don't see it running out anytime soon.

If some one port the code to an IC 12F629 than it will be cheaper.

The only problem with making so many chips is the programming time, I don't think I'd want to be the chap flashing 100 chips, could you imagine the time to do it?
