http://www.trueachievements.com/n4260/treasure-reveals-radiant-silvergun-details.htm you need to have ikaruga and unlock one achievement in order to play the ikaruga-mode in RS?! that`s ok. I like both of them ^^
Yep, and that's coming from a huge Treasure fanboy. I'll still be buying it, though: it's still good, even if it's not the best shooter ever OMG! like many people say.
Any fool can post a photo, could be a picture you found on the interwebz or someone you know, I'd want hard proof
Radiant Silvergun isn't overrated if you say it's an innovative shooter with great graphics & audio that pushed shooters' visual narration to another level. It is, however, very unique in terms of gameplay and therefore not for everyone. I wouldn't say it's overrated though. Some people tend to be hyping it because it seems so artsy, but that's what it is. It's amazing and the extensive amount of thought that was put into the gameplay mechanics and strategies can't be denied. That said, I never got into it. I played through the entire game only once and found it very hard to learn the strategies for stages & bosses at the 3rd stage and up. It didn't feel like fun to me (as opposed to Ikaruga) because the gameplay is a little bit on the slow side and puts high value on strategy (i.e. you just can't avoid crashing if you move to the wrong side of the screen in certain situations, so you have to know where to move in advance all the time). I can still enjoy it as the masterpiece that it is.
At first I played it then thought it was okay. Then gave it some more time and it really grew on me. Of course I played a copy of it, I am glad I can now own it and actually understand what is going on in the story (if the xbox live trailer is to believe that they translated the dialogue). I would of loved to own the saturn version but I can not justify spending $150 for one game, not even alien soldier (I did at one time own the sega ages gunstar hero collection though).
As far as I'm concerned RS is one of the all time greatest shooters ever made. Honestly, I think it's probably the best shooter ever made, but Batsugun Special and Battle Garegga are extremely close (and if you just prefer horis, then Border Down is king). But I do agree with someone's earlier statement that it has to grow on you. RS is a game that demands considerable time to master, and it's brutal early on. Thankfully, it is one of the 50 or so shooters I've 1CC'd.
I've had the game for just over two months now on the xbox, The leaderboards didn't work, Neither did the ikaruga mode, (My builds obviously a wee bit old) But the game looks and plays as brilliant as ever! It didn't seem to me like a whole lot had changed to be honest though.
I bought it this morning and I must say a real good port. I think I'll post an impressions video on youtube later this week. The hd touch-up look nice. Cleaned up all the pix-elation. Also lo res option for those that still want saturn visuals.
I had played the emulated arcade version a few times, but my machine wasn't very good at making it work, and I had never even touched the saturn one. I bought it yesterday, as I was really looking forward to finally playing it. It's an awesome audiovisual overload, but also it's hard. It is extremely hard. I'd say it's prison-rape with a broomstick hard. Yet, I kept coming back for more punishment. It's got a weird learning curve, but at some point, the weapons system just clicks, and you can use it ... I guess "fluently" is the right adjective here. It's (with the Sakimoto score and all), like the Final Fantasy Tactics of shooters - more of a cerebral, strategic shooter, with more complexity and obscurity and divergence from the norm than most normal games of the genre. (Or you could also compare it to Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter - it's a fucking masterpiece, an audiovisual treat, and one of the deepest, most satisfying examples of its genre... as long as you have the patience and skills to somehow be able to play past the very beginning of it, as it is nail-bitingly hard) You need to be a very good player to enjoy this game, but it's very very fun. I don't know if it's 200-dollars-a-copy good, but it's definitely a good game. I'll keep coming back to get raped by it with a masochistic frequency, that's for certain. Does anyone know if you unlock aditional continues, a-la Iikaruga, or if you're stuck with what you get in the beginning, like with Strania?
Radient Silvergun.... It will butt rape you Ok Marketing people for MS and Treasure I'll be waiting for my check
It is hard but not impossibly hard. Whats nice is in story mode you can save your experience and each time you load up you start from the last so your blasts get stronger. But each time I play it over again I get a little farther. Music is just so epic in this game, even the final bosses theme. But like a lot of treasure games the story is a bit puzzling.
The music is, indeed, fantastic. A great score by Hitoshi Sakimoto (Gradius V, Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy Tactics), who also did Breath of Fire V under the audio direction of Yasunori Mitsuda. Breath of Fire V is worth it for the audio alone, but I consider it the best PS2 RPG (perhaps tied with Dragon Quest 8). Anyhow, the music in Radiant Silvergun is, indeed, epic. And yes, I keep getting further and further myself. I keep getting less humilliatingly sucky at it. At some point, I'll learn to not be a complete imbecile and somehow clear more than one stage. jp says this. and to him, I say: Sir, you are truly a man of epic greatness. At least, a much better man than I.
