I'm looking for a list of Japan-exclusive Xbox 360 games which are region free. I only found lists which contain all games. However I'm looking for a list of games which are released in Japan only, but play on a PAL Xbox360 system. There are some interesting Japan-only Xbox 360 titles, e. g. Deathsmiles (that's not region free, unfortunately).
I'd kill for a Region-Free Otomedius Gorgeous... I've always considered getting a JP Xbox 360 to play all those awesome JP-Only shooters. I'm very interested in this list, btw. For now, Play-Asia would do the trick - there's a whole "region-free" list there, and on all the other version lists there's compatibility tables for each game.
I'm not too sure on Otomedius Gorgeous to be honest. I was looking for a shooter to get for my 360 today. I watched an awful lot of Otomedius Gorgeous video clips but to me it just seems like a cheap Parodius clone. I mean, Parodius was always so much fun to watch as well as play. Fully animated BG Areas as massive bosses. Otomedius Gorgeous just looks so stiff and dull in comparison. I ended up buying Mushihimesama Futari  yakumo
I agree, Otomedius isn't that exciting. The old Parodius games are way better. back to topic: The list from Play-Asia has no sorting/filtering. It's pretty time consuming to filter out the region free japan-only games.
Oddly enough (as a general rule) Japanese Xbox 360 releases are typically region coded. US, Asian and Euro releases are typically region free. There are of course plenty of exceptions to this rule, but Japanese publishers like to region lock more than their counterparts around the world. Remember, the Xbox 360 region lock is completely optional. A game is only locked if the publisher requests it. -hl718
Can you (or anyone else) speculate why the Japanese devs do this? It seems doubly odd if your game isn't going to be released overseas. Am I missing something?
I would imagine it is in case there is the off chance a us publisher wants to publish it for US release. Honestly I always thought not making the wii region free was a big mistake. It's half the reason people got modchips or hacked their wiis.
<- Still doesn't have a 360. Might be able to steal my brother's again... assuming it holds out alright (Boarderlands kicked it in the d!ck). Then I'd need a 360 stick, fuuuuu--- What's with them releasing it on the American system? Where's the Love!?
QFT, Had to softmod and get the backup loaders so I could run both Wii and GC imports, Freeloader didnt get the job done. I was thinking about getting a 360 but I just found out from this thread about the stupid region lock, I thought the 360 got rid of this nonsense. I cant afford buying 2 systems especially when they are RROD'ing all the time. You can easily send a domestic system for repair, but with an imported system you're out of luck :\
I don't believe so, to my knowledge it's just adding an extra NAND chip which is where the regional stuff is or something. For my own use I'd just flash the extra chip with the JP stuff so I could play Japanese games. But I'm just guessing.
