Hey, I'm posibly getting my hands on a jpn gamecube soon. I'm tempted to take advantage of the fact that some GCN
games are going for dirt cheap! Any recomendations? (Specialy oddball games that might have not made it out of japan).

Here are a few games i'm currious about..
. Kururin Squash (I liked the gba games)
. RockMan EXE Transmission (It's $5 and I happen to like old 2d megamans)
. Virtua Fighter Cyber Generation (currious, any opinions?)
. The Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords (Is it still fun with 1 player?)
. Wario World (Never tried, any fun?

When I saw the topic title I was going to mention Kururin Squash...and then I read the post and saw you listed it lol.

It is great fun. I started with the GBA games and then I got Kururin Squash. More of the same great gameplay...just 3d rendered graphics this time around. Probably my favorite GC game.

. Virtua Fighter Cyber Generation (currious, any opinions?)

It's an RPG, and not really an astonishing one either. So you might better leave it where it belongs (to Japanese VF-otakus' homes ^^) in case you wanted more than just to collect it

. Wario World (Never tried, any fun?)

I had borrowed it for quite some time and I must say that I liked it a lot. It's not an ultra-good monster of a game, but its lovely designed and with lots of great platformer passages which I missed in Super Mario Sunshine. Especially for the low price that it is going for I'd give it a shot.

Cool. Glad it's just as good as the GBA ones. I was a little worried it might be the type of game that lost it's charm on a console.

Sweet, I will drop VF from my list and make sure to keep Wario World. :)

Kururin is pretty good & theres lots to unlock & the controls are just as tight as the gba versions.

Rockman exe is ok but it really dosent play 100% like a 2d megaman game. Like the gba series of the same name it relies on battle chips to do your special attacks so theres a lot of repetition going through the same areas shooting hoping the enemes will drop the ones you need & then creating a battle chip deck. If your ok with that theres a nice game underneath.

Virtua fighter is actually pretty good if you forget that it has anything to do with said game, sort of a 3d adventure where you get to equip moves from various virtua fighter characters if you can find them & beat them in the arena. You manage your abilities by assigning them to this weird cube you can only have as many as you can fit in it. I put quite a few hours into it & i rather enjoyed it, if you can find it cheap i'd go for it.

Zelda 4 swords is worth owning alone just for Tetra's trackers, one of the most fun uses of the gba/gc link ever. The main game is still excellent in one player too.

Wario is a pretty fun game but isn't anything groundbreaking as platformers go, but what it does it does nicely. Has lots of stuff to collect in each level too plus some warioware downloadable minigmes if you have a gba linked up.

Except for Kururin, aren't all those games available in a localized version? Cyber Generation was released as Virtua Quest in the States, and I'm pretty sure that Rockman EXE Transmission is one of the Megaman NT Warrior games.

Yup im pretty sure they all made it to the west (except kururin) however they took out tetra's trackers from the western versions of 4 swords. Gave some shit excuse that they couldn't get Tetra to say your name in english. As when you put your name in the japanese version, as you play she calls you by your name.

Wouldn't have been hard just to say something like player 1 player 2 ect but nooo they just cut the whole game out.

Most likely but truthfuly I have a massive hard on for jpn gamecube cases. I really love them (I use to have a few import gcn games in the past). Plus most of thies can be had for $20 or less on play-asia (the rockman exe is only $5).

For my list I was just trying to get opinions and on top of that I was looking for sudgestions like Kururin Squash. :p

Neat then it is a must! (Probably in my first rounds of ordering)

Hmm.. Still might be worth a play. Besides its only $5 new :p

Hmm... Maybe i'll have to try for the english version on this. Will have to debate it.

Actualy I got to try Tetra's Trackers back when they showed it off at E3. It was quite fun to play (I though it never came out since I never heared about it again).

I'm sold on the idea. Me & my gf are fans of wario games (both 2d platformers & the mini game collections). As well it seems simple enough my gf could get into this (she can't handle 3d platformers very well but this seems simple enough for her).

So any game sudgestions Importaku? (minus mario sunshine & both zelda games)

Avoid Virtua Fighter CG at all costs.

4-swords is highly entertaining in a puzzle-fashion even on its own.

I would recommend Chibi Robo if you're into Toy Story or platformers.

WarioWorld got mediocre reviews, but it's actually a game that I completed 100%. It's not original or breath-taking but it's "systematically fun" just as other Treasure games! It doesn't do 3D justice to the 2D versions on the GameBoy line, but it's a very high quality title in its own way - just don't assume you're in for a grand and epic platforming adventure.

to sum up Warioworld, it plays like a good old 2D walk and whack but in 3D, with many hidden/sneaky secret areas :D

    Check this ones:

F-Zero GX; the best in the series, many ships to drive, many circuits, story mode, ship creator, etc, etc; awesome.

Eternal Darkness; one of the best survival horror of the past gen, if you like Lovecraft, it's a must.

P.N.03; everyone misunderstood this, game, is basically a third person shoot'em up, I liked it a lot, and if you buy it, change the starfe buttons to x & y, it'll be better.

Killer 7; this game is like modern art to videogames, I LOVE this game, the plot is awesome, the art direction too; think about if Takashi Miike makes videogame, this one would be his videogame. The GC version is better than the PS2 one.

Wave Race Blue Storm; as good as the N64 precuel, but with more drivers, bigger waves, sometimes very big XD

Paper Mario 2; a funny and simple RPG, if you liked the first part, check this out.

Starfox Adventures; Zelda meets Starfox, it's easy, but if you like Zeldas, you must play it.

Kinnikuman 2nd generations; a very good fighting game based on the manga.

Baten Kaitos 1 & 2; I haven't played them yet, but some friends told that both a good RPGs if you can stand the card system.

Metroid Prime/Echoes; the best games on the system, nothing more to say XD

Pikmim 1 & 2; the Lemmings made by Miyamoto, the second one support two players.

Now I have to go, i'll edit and add some more later.

Played enough of already. I'm not totaly new to gamecube. :p

Bleh. Sanity effects were cool maybe the first time they hit but as the game went on it got anoying and stupid. The game as a whole was ok but not the best survival horror game (come on, RE4 > this)

It was not my cup of tea

Never found much interest in trying it. I might give it a go this time.

Wave Race 64 > BS by a sunami. Still I might snag a copy since they're dirt cheap anyways.

I'm tempted to check this one out.

Ugg. Gfx were nice but over all it was too much of a zelda knock off. It got seriously anoying at times.

Never heard of it. Will look into it. :)

I've heard great things but never tried. I might consider it.

Ehhhhhhhh.... I'm a 2D metroid fanboy to my grave. It makes it hard for me to try playing thies games.

Actualy i'm meaning to try pikmin. Might give it a shot this time.

Anybody play both viewtiful joes? I was in love with the first one, is the second one as good? Any strange japanese game sudgestions? How about puzzle games? (Sadly i know cube is no ps2 and wont have tons of crap i've never heard about but there still gotta be something worth checking out).

well that's a CARD BASED RPG! like PSO III. It needs good amounts of patience!:p

the second V.Joe is better than the first one imo, it expands and adds to the first one!

Not a JPN-exclusive, but my favorite weird Gamecube game was Cubivore. A strange action RPG where all the characters are animals made up of simple geometric shapes. Combat is resolved by having the animals 'eat' each other to take on the traits of the consumed. You're scored by how many different animal combinations you end up forming. It was insanely addictive and there isn't another RPG like it.
