For anyone unfamiliar, Games Done Quick is a charity marathon that takes place twice a year, when the best speedrunners come together to do a week long marathon and raise funds for charity (the last event SGDQ in July, raised about 1.3 million for Doctors Without Borders.)

I have submitted, and had accepted, 3 runs for the marathon. Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, Blaster Master, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Until the marathon in January, i will be streaming practice of said runs on my twitch channel at twitch.tv/skavenger216 . I also am currently grinding down the World Record for Rondo of Blood 100% completion (I am the current WR holder at 37 minutes and 37 seconds)

Its an amazing marathon for an awesome cause, and for more info you guys can check it out at gamesdonequick.com , or the games done quick youtube, where runs from past marathons are posted.

Sorry if this post isnt ok here, but im super excited and these forums have been a regular part of my life since 2008 so i wanted to share with you all :)

That's awesome man congrats! :) My only decent speed run was 4 hours and 12 minutes on Resident Evil 3 for Dreamcast lol.

Oh damn didn't know I had competition on this site. ;)
Grats man! Been wanting to do some runs myself but it's always come down to financial issues and travel issues.

Cant wait to see you do the runs. Just be sure not to get banned as GDQ bans quick (bonesaw was a great example of old GDQ - he is now banned)

For those unaware (I'm sure you know but just in case); A speedrun is playing a game from start to finish as fast as possible. This includes 100% completion, Any%, with glitches, without glitches. These usually are very specific and skilled things to do to help advance the game faster. Along with speedruns are Tool Assisted Speedruns (aka TAS) where scripting is used to do a speedrun with no human playing the game but also doing the same criteria (completion percentage).

I've personally done runs on Megaman X4/X6, Megaman Legends 2 (we got a legends run this year and im happy), and Wind waker. Learning about games is fun (prototypes and all that) but learning to use the game's faults to your advantage is something I love more.

Thanks guys :) And yeah PixelButts , this will be my third GDQ event that i have a run in (although this is the first where ive had multiple runs in the same event), so im fully aware of the rules of conduct to not get banned :) . Do you stream your speedruns btw? if so drop me a link to your twitch channel so i can follow and watch! I love me some megaman speedruns!

I dont stream them. I have reasons for not streaming them usually. I try to only keep a run if i did good, and many times i find myself having an interruption by family or some other thing going on that causes an issue.
Now that I live alone I might be able to get some good ones again, but I lack a PC able to use my capture device without corrupt video so that only makes it harder.

Really? What did you run previously?

Do you know if there was a reason for that? Ever since they stopped letting the players just have fun and play (e.g. no night crew with TriHex, no swearing of any kind) and got way, WAY too political and in your face about it, GDQ has gone down hill. I think that it got too big, too quickly and they don't know how to handle it. I just want to watch good players who can talk about a game and banter with each other. I don't want to watch 15 minutes of sit-down discussion with the players, eSports-style, in between games.

I was in the Blaster Master race at AGDQ2016 (where i pulled off an insane, previously thought to be TAS only skip that would have crashed the game had i failed), and i was also in the Ironsword race at SGDQ2016 (where i got horrendously trolled by bad RNG and ended up finishing last).

As far as the interviews between runs, their main purpose is to have something going on during the setup period inbetween games.

To see the Blaster Master skip i did, go to this video and skip to about 28:50 into it, my game feed is on the top left, and im the guy in the blue shirt and green hat

Ah, ok. Yeah, I watched both of those runs at some point. Name never clicked for me (never expected someone here to be there).

I figured that the interviews are there to cover the setup times, to some extent. My problem IS the setup times. Seriously, this event has been going on for years and they can't figure out how to get a dozen or so systems set up and ready to go before the event even starts? The planning that goes into the event is insane, yet it takes twenty minutes to change a cartridge? I get that there are sometimes technical difficulties (mostly PC-side and I'm more forgiving on the and anything related to TASBot could take down the entire tech station, but this past SGDQ was actually painful with the high amount of down time between games. I know earlier GDQ's had a lot of overruns, but it also seemed like they had a lot more games too.

Don't get me wrong; I only critique because I love it and I'm afraid of it burning out soon.

I looooove AGDQ. I hope to attend the event some day as a spectator. I love everything about speedrunning.

    Congrats on the 3 entries!

Bonesaw had the best GDQ speedrun I've seen in years but at the same time I can understand why he was banned even though I don't like it. Worst part about it was caveman calling his run shit while starting his Klonia speedrun directly after it. There are still some funny speedruns though even with the rules somewhat in the way(blindfolded castlevania SOTN as an example)

I started sweating in anger at the pikmin run.
    Good god

But yes, Bonesaw's run was a problem not for the fun, but because GDQ had to apologize to the airline place he used that he called shit on the stream. That and he had too much to drink and was causing commotion a little bit - yet at the same time even with messing up he still ended under par for an average run time which is quite impressive after that much drinking.

A rule of thumb - fun is a bannable offense in GDQ.

They are an organization raising over a million bucks in a week. I realize what GDQ once was, but if you cant be a professional when you are representing multiple organizations, don't go.

There's professionalism and there's "you can't have fun because we think that fun is dangerous and offensive to people". GDQ got where it was because of the fun. I don't recall Bonesaw acting badly or bad mouthing anyone during a run, so it either wasn't a major incident, it was offscreen or somehow I missed it. And I agree with Kappa; the attendees are not representatives of the sponsors

And yet if the sponsors were to pull out because of what happened, thats no good. Spamming an airline isn't cool either. Either way, if they have a set of rules to abide by, cant be surprised when people are upset. You can't blame a charity event for not wanting to have that sort of thing anymore. Things change.

Not saying that GDQ is perfect mind you, they seem to be extremely inconsistent with their rules, among other things.

Wow, congrats! I love GDQ. I watch and donate what I can every year. It's a great cause.

    Kill the animals! =P

I still want a "taunt the animals" option: runner goes into the room with the animals, but doesn't destroy the wall so they can get out.

Unfortunately, that won't be possible, as you can't leave that room without destroying the wall for your furry pals.

I am also surprised to see an AGDQ runner here as a member. It is a wonderful event, & I can only hope to attend one. Best of luck, skavenger.

Hmm, could have sworn I did it once, but I just watched a video that does show the door locked until the wall is destroyed.
