I thought about it a few years ago and talked myself out of it.

    Life's tough - wear a helmet.

I just hate it how it's considered such a joke now. It's a serious subject.

I was kind of shocked back in High School when the whole emo craze was going on, they got made fun of for being cutters or whatever. I was kind of like....huh? People do that?

The stupid thing is that all the stuff they make fun of emo people for isn't even real half the time. I haven't listened to the stuff but I've never seen it promote suicide or self mutilation. Hell, if that makes music emo then everyones emo. It seems like pop punk or whatever.

And none of those kids did anything like that. It just annoyed me because it made something serious suddenly not a big deal. Think about how actual crazy people feel!

I knew many kids in highschool who cut but weren't emo. Cutters aren't just emo kids...but still even then I thought it was kinda dumb and an attention getter.

I knew many kids in high school who cut and none were emo.

And I also knew many kids in high school that are emo (myself included) that have never cut.

I never knew many people around my area who cut themselves. Well, there was this one guy named Steve or something, he came from a big town like Dallas. He pretended to be all Gangsta but he always tried to kill himself by poking himself with a pencil by poking his wrist with it. I don't know, I think he did a lot of it for attention, among other things.

He did have a bad childhood though, his mom blew her brains out and his father was in prison when he was just a little kid. I think he even saw his mom after she killed herself...I think that's a good reason to act out and cut yourself. I guess.

I feel for the guy. but the idea of someone trying to kill themselves that way made me laugh.

People have always cut themselves and people have always killed themselves. Emo culture just thought it was cool and adopted it. Just like black metallers.

I think you're getting your subcultures mixed up...

Like others have said, "emo" kids aren't exclusively cutters. I knew a few people in high school who were cutters, and none of them were emo kids.

I think we all can agree that cutting = cry for attention, not "to feel pain" or whatever bullshit excuse they come up with. Regardless of who does it.

Yeah! Something that surprised me was that people were all open about it. I had never ran into that situation and for some reason I was the only person shocked by it. i'm pretty sure people who have a real problem with that go to great lengths to hide it, not wear it like a merit badge.

I was trying to say that all peoples cut. And I knew many emo kids who did because they thought it was cool, and i know many black metallers who do it for the same reason. And yet I also know "regular" people who do as well.

I don't think I wrote what I wanted to say too clearly.

Cutting is definitely a desperate cry for attention, mostly due to a lack of such at the parental side. I once knew a girl who scratched all up her arms really harsh and her parents were just plain idiots who let her do whatever she wanted, there was absolutely nothing she could do to draw the attention onto her. I think when children or teenagers commit suicide, it has most of the time to do with bad social surrounding (like being bullied) and useless idiot parents, often a combination of both.
Personally I don't remember a school rampage where the killer had not had problems at school before. There was one in Germany two years ago and I read the killers whole blog before it got put offline, all I can say is that it was very touching and I can understand what anger was ripening in him.

When people want to kill themselves, they just do it like someone from my ex-school who jumped off the platform and immediately got cought by a bullet train. I am waiting at this particular station everyday on my way to school and must think about all the people who already suicided there (about 1-2 every year). Besides, the guys at school continued to make jokes about his suicide for months, so our occurence here is not only an internet phenomenon, it's human stupidity.

Ugg, thats so stupid. People just really don't get it. Usually when I hear stuff like that from people I know it's people who have seriously never had to deal with much of anything. Not like I have either, but I'm at least somewhat human.

I wasn't into cutting, but I used to beat my dick like it owed me money. Still do, come to think of it.
