That is generally how I do it (the true discipline is choosing which lens you go for) but the beauty of the RX1 is you can always shove it up your ass before you go and have it be your fall back. You also don't want to get stuck somewhere w/ film only... unless you got tons of rolls.

I have reason to believe my Zeiss lens is front focusing... but, these came out okay I guess.

Some serious ass on 'em, that's for sure.

Here's my ironic shot... one of those mofos stole a sandwich right out of my woman's hands (and in front of my face). The shot was taken w/ the RX1 -- 100% crop.

Great capture! They are little shits though. I had one carry off a full can of soda once! A full can! They can sure lift up some weight.

:p I'm sure it is, along with the technical posts. I was pretty excited to find a dedicated 'living in japan' section. Don't know what it is with us guys always interested in the same type of music, an interest in the far east and electronics.

Anyway gotta say your photos are great dude.

What do the majority of the 'expats' on this site do in Japan? Translating? I almost moved to Japan and have been interested in trying to do some engineering work there for a while, the longer i leave it the harder it gets though.

That's a question whose answer changes a lot. There have always been many in finance, and then people in the real world who are teachers, working in the service industry, or have some other down to Earth job. After 2008, a large portion of the finance industry left en masse, as well as a handful of teachers. I'd say these days it's not hard to find someone of affluence working in something like insurance or some other industry other than banking. 10 years ago -- different story. Theres' always been teachers, and always will be.

Translating is a pretty small portion of the whole pie I would assume.

    I second that, fucking awesome.

Yakumo, GP and Martin, you should seriously consider doing a book/picture compendium with all these amazing shots from Japan, it would kick ass, I for one would surely buy it :D love looking at this thread.

I totally like this thread with every picture. Exist a place in japan where you have Retro Gaming Shops, nice Nature and walking through Mountains or forests with sightseeing all together ? ?

by looking at your other posts it seems you can speak English just fine :)

Great shots as always, GaijinPunch. I have a question, did you intend the shots to have a high contrast look to the blacks or is that due to film?

For the film shots? I like contrasty shots, but honestly most of those rolls were me testing out the camera. I shot in Aperture priority mode, but some of those cameras only do shutter speed increments in full F-stops. SO if you need something at perfectly between two stops, it will either be under-exposed or over-exposed. I found one camera has the tendancy to underexpose which makes them a bit more contrasty. Then again, a lot of it has to do w/ the film used.

    Stunning shots as always.

Out of interest, are you using a special piece of kit for the film shots to get them onto a PC? My understanding is that a lot of the home consumer gear is a bit arse for that stuff, but those shots really do look incredible so I figured there has to be some good stuff out there.
