Oh I know where you're coming from there. I lived in Tokyo for a year and even though I'm only 180cm tall I still got a few umbrellas in the face due to the main populace being short-arses.

Yeah, we obviously like it... there's a lot of things that take a lot of getting used to though. Some that don't seem to make much sense. I'm just thankful they've somewhat fixed the ATM debacle. I still get rejected by some machines though.

especially since they have working hours like employees.
I'd like to be one of those ATMs, I'd have less work per day.

I still don't understand why Japanese ATM machines stop giving you YOUR money after 7pm. It really is crazy since in the UK every bank's ATM is 24hours. They do have late night ATMs don't they but they all belong to loan companies from what I know which means massive commission rates.

Some banks have caught on, but only for their large branches. If you live close to the city, it's not much of an issue. All Citibank ATMS are 24 hours, but there are few of them. Shinsei is the same, and they thankfully have a deal w/ 7-11, so you can usually get money quite easily. However, you need a plan from time to time.

I can use Yamaguchi Bank through 7/11's ATM as well but the service is only available until 7pm. F*ing stupid or what when the machine is in operation 24 hours a day.

Japanese bank machines are part of a union I hear.

Same as petrol stations in Shimonoseki where I live then. I buy my petrol in Kyushu on the way to and from work because it's cheaper.

Just experienced that today as well, but for 77 Bank.

Hate how the bank itself closes around 3PM, and the ATM there until 5PM. There are a few branches near Sendai Station, however, that stay open until around 9, which is somewhat convenient.

711's ATM seems to operate until around 11 here. Fairly convenient, especially the ones in the red light district area.

Until you develop an illegal chemical habit... then if you run out of cash at off hours you're fucked.

Titty bars in Honolulu have an ATM in them... and the fucking name of the place shows up on your statement!

I randomly stumbled across this awesome photo blog - it's mostly of parties/concerts in japan which is OK but then sometimes it's just nice scenery and things like that. Loads and loads of pictures

How the fuck did I miss the Brazillian Festival? I can tell from the background that's at the Yoyogi Park theatre... a stone's throw at my house.

Really? The blog has it tagged with NHK Park. I've never been to Tokyo so I don't know if they are close or what so forgive me if I'm wrong.

One and the same. It's likely on NHK's lot, but it's filled with spill over from the dregs of society that flock to Yoyogi park.

At least it's not like China, where they break out the umbrellas en masse if it's hot, even in bloody crowded areas:

Anyway, here are a few pics from last summer in Japan:
