    1. I'm not selling it.

    2. I'm not releasing it, since it's copyrighted and licensed work, and I'm also not going to risk losing trust of the person who gave it to me (morality, anyone?).

    3. It's preserved for the next 30 years, so don't worry. A backup is stored on a DVD-RAM type 1 cartridge which is in turn stored in a temperature-controlled room...

So, please stop your selfishness. You want that the game is preserved? Then be quiet, because it is. You want a copy of it? Sorry, but that won't happen.

ps: and I guess I need to tell you again that a dev kit without SDK 3.1 can *not* be used to play these games. So much for "someone who can use it".

Ha it's funny what a witless man will say in the line of defense.
Sure this conversation is over, but not because you've taken some imaginary moral high ground. More so because you have absolutely zero ability to prove your self motivated claims and foolishly unsubstantiated ideas about collection and preservation.

You mean apart from running and hosting all the Games That Weren't websites for many years, for which I spend lots of time and money? I contributed enough and don't really have to prove anything anymore anyway.

WindowsKiller, dont bother with these topics. I, and Im sure many others, trust that you've preserved the game, plus on top of that, given videos. Don't worry about the others, and just realize theres plenty of us out there who thank you for what youve done!

I swear greedy bastards like this who demand every unreleased game or prototype be released at the expense of the thousands of dollars, or in some cases just the insane amount of work to track the game down. You people are just as bad as the ones in the ROM hacking communities who think people should have to release their source code for everything that's neat.

WindowsKiller is not taking any sort of imaginary moral high ground. The item is his and he is free to do whatever he wants. To be honest you should be happy at least that it has been preserved like this and instead of being discarded in some trash bin. Sorry M2fan, but your idea of only releasing it to people with M2s is retarded because someone will leak it.

I'm all for the releasing of things even helping to pay for a release, but I would never demand it.

Windowskiller that comment was not in any way directed at you. I was speaking specifically to devhackr.

I agree completely with your stance on this and I think it's incredibly ridiculous to expect someone in your position to just give out free stuff like it's Halloween or something.

    *edit*
If you had read my previous posts I think my stance on this topic is quite obvious.

I personally am happy that he has given all he has given us in the way of m2 memorabilia and I don't think there is any reason he should release it. I am confident it is in good hands

Don't want to beat a dead horse here... but this is my opinion on unreleased games:

    1. It's the person's personal property. Doesn't matter if he treats it well or uses it as a coaster, it's up to him.

    2. If someone is so kind as to release anything to the public, knowing it will significantly lower the value of their property, then people should pay to recoup the cost of the device before releasing it to those who pay for it.

    3. People need to look at this like their home. You have your home, which is your most valuable possession. If all of a sudden you let anyone live in it with you, the value goes down as people are not going to pay for something they can get for free. Look at it like this: Would you let just anyone come into your house and live there while you paid the mortgage? Hell no.

And that is exactly where this man's disbelief in these requests come from. I don't think he's trying to be rude.. in fact, I don't anyone here is trying to be rude. I just think he's trying to convey the fact that it isn't a 2600 Pacman cart he's giving people, it's something of value.

I still believe games are made to be played however, and it's best to always play with others and comment on the games we all play and love instead of doing it all by yourself. I always full appreciate when games are released, and always am for releasing them.. but never at the owner's expense or without the owner's permission.

    Just my two cents.

I think the horse is dead now but i must say if someone finds and pay's shit loads of money for a proto cart/cd on any console then
its ok to get some money back of people for a rom dump if that person
thinks he would like to share it with everyone witch i think he should.
games are ment to be played by everyone and not just one person a cdr or rom will never be worth anything once the game is out there the real cd/cart will.its nice to share a find i would think but is it nice to tell everyone you have a proto and then say you cant play it. all we want is a dump for doe but if you have others reasons why you can not do this legal or whatever then thats fine i speak to all proto collecters.show some mercy cos really we love you.

Personally I am just grateful that he gave us anything. I mean he could have just taken the prototype and never spoken of it but instead he gave us those awesome videos so we should all be very happy for those

Oh, lots of big words. Someone stopped by a thesaurus. There isn't a way to prove anything in either direction, but of course as incredibly smart as you are you obviously know that. I took the high road by nulling the distraction you were causing by being... [hold on let me stop by the thesaurus too]

an asshole. The great part about being an opinionated dick like myself is I can state "you're wrong," not explain myself, and watch you get sand in your vagina. So rather then creating long, very, very, very boring arguments that derail this thread, why not add something constructive that enforces your opinion?

Oh yeah, because arguing with strangers on internet forums makes a real difference, especially ones who will simply dismiss what you say and continue to to mock you. But, whatever floats your boat.

Now, which emoticon suits mockery best.....

Ownership is everything. Released software value drops to zero.

Devhackr I suggest you get off of your high horse before the powers that be around here knock you down a peg. I speak for far more than just myself when I say that we do not quite appreciate people of your caliber here at Assemblergames. This is not a threat, rather a friendly warning that although you may be used to acting like a shameless flaming twit wherever you have come from this board is not so accustomed to tolerating such childish actions.

Oh and by the way, some of us do not need to consult a thesaurus every time we wish to speak our minds. We just use the gray matter at our own disposal.

This is even easier. I see my name at the beginning of whatever you have to say, don't bother reading it, and reply with a picture of a meatloaf:

See? That's what I'm about. State your opinions. Long, dull speeches on the internet aren't worth the effort. So any further distractions from m2fan's topic will be replied to with other [SIZE=-1]culinary abortions. :fresh:

A system maybe worth $500 that collectors pay more for so that it can become a dust paperweight on some shelf.

This argument ends now. I understand occasionally views differ.

Remember, act towards each other as if they were across a table.

We're all here as we share the same goals anyways, the discovery of the lost and keepers of obscure historical knowledge.
