Well, as a hardware alternative, couldn't you just get any netbook based system that uses the ION chipset for graphics? You could probably do it for much cheaper. The only thing you loose is the fashion statement, as ASSEMbler pointed out.
I ment as a Disk drive Fair enough you dont use them. But what about somebody else. What if you want to listen to your music you either rip it to your harddrive (which if you have as much music as me that would be roughly 24gb of the ssd gone) meaning you either lug around an external hard drive/flash drive or a external optical disk drive. It really defeats the purpose for allround usage. In my opinion the macbook air is just an experiment.
But then you're stuck with an Atom CPU. As much as I hate Core 2 Duos in this day and age, the Atom is even worse. And you lose OSX. And you get a slab of plastic. And a smaller keyboard. And something that weighs more and is more bulky. An experiment rarely goes on for 2 or 3 years and then some. 24gb isn't that much in the scheme of things, but still, the Air isn't for everyone.
lol, no. Apple should give me for free one macbook air just for that. Gaddammit! QFT! Atom processors suck DICK. They are so slow that even my granny could finish smoking a whole cigarette during the startup process.
I would say no. iBook yes, but the Air is about style over performance and utility. Since you talk about gaming, you will suffer with the Air.
just get yourself one of those 12" Asus netbooks, they are fast enough for HD decoding and moderated gaming "call of duty 4, bf2 ". I love it for netflix and browsing.
Oh yeah? I bet you haven't met the 320m power yet. Let the vids. do the talk: Call of Duty 4 -OMG http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFXwJQE-xqE Crysis -WOOT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3jXkWDS4q0 WoW -high settings WIN http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaXg8P-WpCQ
Air is pretty, sure. But is still a super expensive netbook. If I had the cash you bet I would get one because Apple does very nice hardware and software, but you have to admit that an expensive netbook is NOT a netbook. Get a MacBook instead. I had a very positive experience with Mac computers. Had one at work for 3 years (Intel iMac 21"), and it rarely crashed (one time I counted about 6 months between a crash) the fact that it's pretty much small, noise-less, no cables and almost maintanence free made it great. I mean, I'm a PC nut, but at some point I just got tired of building systems, upgrading, format and re-install, tweak, etc. I had to do (and still do) that at home, so it was nice knowing that I didn't have to lose time at work with that. In 3 years it did broke down once, and it took a few weeks to get it fixed, wich was quite annoying. But out of that, it performed absolutely great. Naturaly my experience is biased, since I did not pay for it at all. Also, for good or ill, Mac computers hold their value. They are expensive even used. Try re-selling your old laptop or PC!
It always amazes me how people troll Apple threads. Part of the "performance" of a laptop for me, is that it doesn't run the bloatware that is Windows. I don't want to upgrade my laptops... I want to sell them for a high return and buy new tech every few years. I also like them to be built well, and look good. You pay for what you get. Stable OS, nice looking laptop with ample performance for most tasks.
I also have an iPad btw, which I love for on-the-go internet. It's much nicer to use than my iPhone for that.
Right Martin. I know it may be "hard" to understand how a core 2 duo can be way more comfortable than a core i5 in many ways. Most of the times people just look at the numbers and live with it. Mac air is not about specs, it's all about delivering you the best experience possible in what you're doing. The only apple product I own is an Ipod classic 30gb, wich I bough recently pre-owned from an ebay user. As far as I can tell, I never enjoyed music as much as I do now, with anyother portable player device ever. You gotta enjoy the little things you do, life's about those single moments. You shouldn't be bothered with crashes or viruses. The downsize is the price obviously. Edit: Oh and btw, I really think these new macbook models are a marketing way of getting the costumers busy, so they can have more time until the release of the next generation stuff aka ipad 2.
I take it back, that is pretty impressive. But if you want to play Windows games, save yourself a lot of money and get a more powerful PC laptop. Mac OS vs. Windows is a different argument entirely. Mac OS is stable and nice looking because Apple doesn't let you run it on anything but their set specification. Windows runs on pretty much whatever you like. It is also a lot more open than Mac OS. In terms of gaming, Mac OS is getting better, especially now Steam supports it. But if you are a gamer, Windows is still the choice. Don't forget that this is a gaming forum.
Like I mentioned before, the purpose is not to be playing hardcore with it so I would be just fine. Alright, so here goes a gamer question to the mac users: Is it possible to enable Pete's GPU plugin on the pcsx mac version?
Hey dude, I think you mistunderstood me! I agree with you entirely, and think it would be a fantastic computer for you. I want one and am seriously debating buying one My comments were aimed at people that say "buying Apple products is a waste of money because you can't upgrade them and they are too expensive". I looked at windows netbooks today and they are half the price. The are twice (at least) as thick, and slower, and have a worse battery and are just all around cheap. I have a 2.16Ghz Core2Duo MacBook Pro 15" which gets pretty damn hot really. I really want to get something quite portable, so I might sell my iPad and get the 11" MBA.
It isnt a netbook though. A netbook is defined by the hardware within, and its simply not. There aren't netbooks with Core 2 duos, or non Ion/Tegra hardware. How so, outside of limited hardware? Seriously. You have the UNIX command line and everything underneath OSX. You can do on it whatever you'd like really. Its no more closed than Windows, other than only supporting a limited hardware set, but thats not anything to do with being 'open' really. Oh, and the Air is outperforming laptops with higher specs in some cases, more than a netbook indeed.
I've been eyeing the new Macbook Air since it came out and I've had a chance to use it at my local Apple store. Have to say, I'm really liking it. It's a good netbook alternative that isn't like your typical short/fat netbook form factor. Its thin, light and has a proper keyboard and gorgeous screen. Only thing I hate at the moment is the fact that there isn't a standard ethernet jack built in..you have to use an USB ethernet adapter or wi-fi to get online. Apart from that, what's to hate? The price? Well, you pay more for Apple products, just accept it. The OS is more mature than your typical boring Linux hacks and it's very secure. I've used OSX since the public beta back in 2001, never had an issue. If you're happy with paying the bare minimum for a laptop running some kind of Linux variant that requires constant fiddling, so be it.
No, I didn't:thumbsup:. I may have expressed myself wrong though. I also think the same way as you and as a matter of fact what I wrote was intended to be for the other people to understand our point of view, it wasn't a reply to you at all because I agreed with you in the first place. So f*ckn true. Just fixed it because some people may not be aware of the buzz this new macbook is capable of. I tried it too and I liked what I saw. Edit: anime 1080p .mkv playback + Air = nerdgasm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7x8SuVPqevA 720p Youtube Girls Generation ^.^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btDMHZ4X7EU
:crying:aww.. but do you know if by running pcsx via parallels we get an overall lack of emulation performance? This is a newb question, but I suppose the application behind that eats a lot of cpu huh?
