Finally got my hands on a more complete build of the game. I am starting off coverage with a trailer that was attached to the e3 build of the game, so check it out here:

More video is to come soon. There are some more complete builds out there, but I'm pretty happy with this one.

Just a question, does robert_kendo buy games from you? because sometimes on his site he shows betas and unreleased games that you have, made man is one of them.

Nope, lately it has been a coincidence. He has been getting different builds of the same games I have been getting. It is really quite weird to be honest. You'll see that the build of Made Man he has is a debug build, while mine is an e3 build. I have Emergency Mayhem, but it is only a test build, while his is more complete. Stuff like that :p

Always nice to have different perspectives on relatively the same thing.

Double post, I know, but new info. I think I may have found some really old source code for the game, older than the tech demo that I posted about, from way back in 2003. But it seems to be more complete than that build, actually having models, at least from the pre-compiled PC build. Some PS2 references as well. Really weird, since it says that it was from the ATV3 game, but it clearly isn't. /confused

I've never heard of this game before, looks kind of like GTA from first impressions. Will look forward to seeing more!

I think you had shown them off a number of years ago. No builds though if I remember correctly.

Funny, i think you and him are the only people to show many betas, sounds like a competition.

It was initially announced in 2004, being developed by acclaim manchested but acclaim entertaiment went bankruptcy in september 2004, but years later it was ressucted by silverback studios and it was critically panned.

The Xbox version remains unreleased though :p

Na, no competition, we're on friendly terms hah. Lots of back and forth discussion about things. For the most part, we are both interested in different things, there just seems to be an overlap recently. And I like XBox 1 stuff :p

Why was this game canned?! Sure it looks a bit unfinished but I like the concept, nice music, nice voice acting, nice art direction, could have turned into something decent with a bit of work.

I'm also surprised it got canned - for an unreleased game it looks like a fair bit of money must have been spent on it. The controls certainly do look a bit unfinished though - it seems like the auto aim isn't so great. Still, I'm impressed - thanks Borman.

Only the Xbox version went unreleased--it was released for the PC and PS2 in 2006 (Europe) and 2007 (North America). Keep in mind that Microsoft had discontinued the Xbox by this point (plus, as far as I can recall, only a few sports games and a couple movie tie-ins were released for it in 2007) while the PS2 was still going strong.

As pato said, it was critically panned, averaged around 45 on Metacritic. I've played and beaten it--gameplay's not so good and the story is pretty hokey, despite the fact that it was written by a professional author and supposedly based on the exploits of a real mobster. (I say 'supposedly' because there's a level where you blow up a helicopter and fight ninjas on the top of a New York skyscraper. Yep, straight from the headlines.) It's also really short, maybe 3-4 hours long, and the voice acting is pretty poor apart from the main character. That said, there are a few scenes that stick out in my mind, including a gunfight in the catwalks above a Bachman-Turner Overdrive concert. Also, in the Vietnam levels you can dual-wield M16s which is pretty funny. I paid five bucks for it about a month after it came out and I don't regret it, but I'd recommend playing Mafia or Max Payne instead.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Borman. Always interesting to see games in their early stages. It's been quite some time since I played the game but I think the voice actors were changed for the final version, and the level itself was changed up quite a bit, too.

Looks pretty sweet, it kinda reminded me of Headhunter... the way he could hide behind crates and such.
Nice of you to share these vids.

I think the main reason for being panned was because the game did not suffer a major overhaul during the hiatus time.
