This thing looks awesome. http://mario-kart.net/mkgp/index.html Has anyone come across one to get some hands on time with it?? Lol anyone know of a place where they got it in toronto? or Montreal?
Wasn't this released almost simultaneously with Mario Kart: Double Dash? As a bonus, they added Ms. Pacman as a playable character. Doubt you'll find it outside of Japan in the arcades though.
I played this down at a bowling alley near Southcenter mall, in Tukwila, Washington. The game didn't "feel" like a Mario Kart game, and the track designs were very uninspired, unfortunately. You're not really missing much if you don't play this. If you get a chance to try out F-Zero AX in the arcades, in the deluxe chair, that is one of the coolest arcade gaming experiences to be had.
I know of at least one arcade here in Perth, australia that has the Mario Kart Arcade GP (and there are probobly others)
Well the game is definitely out in North America just less common. Then in Japan. I'd still like to give it a whirl.
I think the reason that no one has ever really seen one of these in the wild here in the USA is cause they cost something like $15,000.
They had one in the Namco Arcade in Notthingham, UK. I've played it loads of times and as said earlier, it doesn't really feel like mario kart. The weapons are interesting though.
They had two machines over at the Time Out arcade in at Springfield Mall here in MD. I agree, it didn't really "feel" like Mario Kart, and the command for the power sliding/boost was overly covoluted. It also cost a $1 to play, so I only played it about 4 or 5 times. Fun, but not something to really get that excited about/wish you could play.
I feel the need to reinforce the sentiment that this game isn't very good. I've tried it a few times...and its just boring. A real waste of money considering what they charge for it.
I thought this game looked interesting, but it seems they failed to capture the classic "Mario Kart" feeling. Anyways I'd love to play it.
You have to admit, Mario Kart would be weird with a joystick instead of the trusty pad. There could be a wheel add-on, but that could just as well ruin the Mario Kart experience. Cause' when you have a joystick, the world doesn't quite go round for joystick Mario Kart action.
I found the game really enjoyable, theres a 2player version in the Trocadero in London near my office - Great place to hide from meetings! True its different from the Console versions but it still has the Mario Kart feel and the new weapons are very cool! Just waiting for them to get the 2nd version.
Another one in the camp of it not feeling like MK really should but I still liked it. Just a shame they took the cards out of the machines outside of Japan (they did didn't they?). I hear the sequel was at ATEI here in Jan but didn't get to go, I wonder if they tightened the handling as that was my main complaint.
Mmm, if there's a MK in the Trocadero I should be able to try it in a few weeks as I'll be spending a weekend in London. Hope there are other new arcades to try.
There are a few new ones here and there, theres a new Premier League Managers Card game that I couldnt figure out.... I had been out for a few beers so I have an excuse ;-) but I spunked nearly £10 on cards (players) put them in a machine, stood there while the score got worse and worse (ended 0-6) even worse that I got beat by a under 12 year old kid who just sat their eating crisps and laughing!!!!!!!! But for me Trocadero wins with the amount of classics it has - Sega Rally, Tekken 2, SSF2 Turbo, House of the Dead but the ultimate is Gauntlet! - Hidden away near the bar and the ££ machines Add to that it being pratically empty during the week apart from the people on the dancing games - damn just watching them makes me feel tired!
