Really it seems like every day there is something new about the Xbox 360 It freeze's while playing You cant move the 360 when your playing it They arent replacing the scratched up discs anymore Link The E3 faceplate dont fit Limited quantites The Core system does not come with a HD Theres a new version thats going to be able to read more games comming out (HD DVD's) 160 watts of power to run it Link
It freeze's while playing (A legit complaint but it seems to depend on where the system is placed.) You cant move the 360 when your playing it (Common sense should tell you not to move the system while playing it.) They arent replacing the scratched up discs anymore (This seems to happen only when the 360 is knocked over from it's vertical position or moved when the system is on. How is it Microsoft's fault?) The E3 faceplate dont fit (Proven false. It does fit.) Limited quantites (Microsoft's mistake and it only hurts them.) The Core system does not come with a HD (Your kind of grasping at straws at this point aren't you?) Theres a new version thats going to be able to read more games comming out (HD DVD's) (Only a rumor at this point with no basis in fact.) 160 watts of power to run it (Not much of a big deal so I don't have a real response for this.)
360 won't freeze if the power supply isn't covered by a fucking blanket, or on the carpet... And the HD DVD thing probably won't happen on the game front, but if it does it won't be for a long time...
I still don't understand how "joe consumer" is supposed to know the equivilant of a 160watt PC power supply is powering the xbox360. There is no precident for a video game console power supply not being able to sit on carpet, so in the mind of the average consumer its all the same. Didn't that last system come with a HD? Microsoft just figured that they could sell it separately this time, but once again going by "joe consumer" its more than reasonable to expect a HD to be on what is essentially the "xbox2"
Yeah, I guess that is right. They should have put a warning with the system or something, so yeah, these are all reasonable complaints for the average person, but there not really reason's to complain about the 360. If I was Joe consumer/ANY consumer I would be complaining about the lack of a kickass launch game, lol. :icon_bigg
I would think that the size of the power supply would at least give an indication that it would be best to put it in a well ventilated area. The fact that it also lights up would be another indicator. I don't think it's so much about Microsoft figuring they could sell it separately. I think it had more to do with trying keep it within the $300.00 barrier. Before the 360 any system that went over the $300.00 barrier was a failure in the US. I think why they offered the Core bundle was simply to cover their bets on the off chance people wouldn't want the Premium bundle as much. I believe Microsoft always intended for the Premium bundle to be their main seller. The fact that is that much a better deal is proof of that. The Core is just a token gesture. As to why there were so many Core systems in the initial shipment which was opposite of everything I heard is that there were simply too few HDD’s to fill the Premium bundles they wanted to ship. So they shipped a few token HDD's separately and more Core systems than they wanted to. I think within the next shipment or two we'll see far more premium bundles than Core.
uh...microsoft had this problem with the first xbox, they recalled them in japan...but decided not to do so in the states. you would think microsoft would build the next xbox so that it didnt scratch the disks reguardless if the unit was vertical, horizontal, or in movement.
Wierd, I didn't know that. I've never heard of one doing that around here, nor does mine do it. Was it more rampant in Japan?
Honestly, if you don't like it, then don't buy it. I'm not buying one until they hit $150, i know that will be a few years down the road. I know some people here are shocked by that, but honestly, i have 34 game systems as it is, i don't need another for $400. The launch lineup isn't that great, i'll wait until there are some good games at a good price. What i'm not going to do is sit here and complain about the system because it isn't exactly what i wanted. I'll either buy one, or not. To go over your complaint list: Honestly, some systems freeze without cause. They're defective. I'm sorry. If anyone on this board has a defective unit, i will personally write an apoligy letter to you. Can you name a disk based system that you CAN move while playing? Try moving a Saturn unit around, i will guarantee you will have a scratched disk. PS2? Same thing, but you would have to move it pretty fast as the disk doesn't spin very quick. I don't see how this could be fixed. If you want to call up Isac Newton and have him rewrite a few of his laws, feel free. If you have a disk that has circular scratches due to the xbox 360 drive, then it will be replaced. End of story. If you have a disk that has linear scratches, it didn't come from the 360, you just don't know how to take care of your crap. I have an E3 face plate, it fits. Do you have an E3 face plate? Can anyone here show me an E3 face plate that doesn't fit? Limited quantities? Yeah. I can't argue with that. It sucks, there's no excuse. Valid complaint. The core system does not come with a hard drive, you're right. The core system is $100 dollars cheaper too! If the price were the same for the core and the premium pack, i could understand your complaint. As it is, however, you're paying less money for less product. That's like complaining that your 10 ounce steak isn't as big as a 16 ounce steak, you pay less for the 10 ounce steake because there is less food. If you don't like the core system, then wait until the premium systems are in stock and buy one of those. There won't be HDVD games for the 360. Gates has said so, J. Allard has said so, and i'm saying so. At some point, a future version of the 360 may be capable of playing HDVD movies, but that isn't guaranteed. Anyway, the HDVD format hasn't been set in stone yet as far as i'm aware. It would be impossible for the 360 to include the drives now. Again, if you don't agree with this, feel free to wait for another version of the 360 that supports HDVD, but i wouldn't hold my breath. A 360 uses 160 watts of power, yes. But the average lightbulb uses 90 watts of power. So the 360 uses less wattage than 2 lightbulbs. My desktop computer uses 800 watts, my xbox uses 90 watts, my PS2 uses 75 watts, my TV uses something in the neighborhood of 400 watts. I don't see the complaint here. Unless you want to talk about Amperage. Let me know when you get the average Amps figured out, and then we can argue this point again. I hope you understand that i'm not trying to attack you, i just don't see the logic behind some of your complaints.
Just assuming the E3 faceplate didn't fit; how would this be a legitimate complaint towards Microsoft? It wasn't available to Joe Consumer: you only got one by attending or getting one from eBay. Now if normal retail faceplates didn't fit, that WOULD be legitimate. At E3 I didn't even think they had the total hardware design down yet.
I cannot agree more with you, I have 25 systems my self so no next gen system for the moment. My policy is never buy a new system when it comes out, generally the hardware is not stable and/or will fail very rapidly (remember the PS2) and the launch line up is cough cough apart from PGR3 and PDZ is not that great. I played couple times the demo in the stores and games are no better than PC. In the case of the X360 I was very tempted to get one but I won't be surprise if MS decides to include a HD-DVD drive in later version. They probably gonna have to do that to fight Blu-Ray. So I'll wait. Overall great system but too young for me and let's face it I just got Silpheed :icon_bigg on the PS2 for a bargain, why would I want a X360 now??? Sabre
All these items you mentioned have thier power supplies INSIDE their outer shell. Most consumers don't know about power supplys and the physics that they are bound to, nor should they be expected to. "Out of sight" means the manufactuerer made the design capable of disapating heat from the power supply within the shell. Microsoft wanted the xbox360 to be sleek and little, never mind theres a potential fire hazard sitting on carpets around the country. There is nothing wrong with your position, but its more on an insiders opinion. Last week I had to explain to some distant relatives why they should wait to buy a 360 for a nephew of mine. Its really too much for the average consumer to think about, they just want to play games out of the box. I think no HD and the power supply are turnoffs to the average joe. But on a side note I think the 360 is being marketed as a premieum product so microsoft isn't too concerned if it sells like a PS2 (for example the early ipod years)
maybe you should go work for them and show them how to implement a system that defies physics. Even portable cd walkmans had this problem if you went running in a damn marathon or something. The xbox wasnt designed to be moved around while a disk is spinning. It's not their fault people don't have common sense.
You hit the nail on the head there. What gets me is, why would you want to move the system back and forth when its running anyways? The whole reason the discs get scratches lies in a concept known as gyroscopic motion. The DVD drive in the 360 spins the discs at over 6000 rpm (more depending on what point on the disc you are measuring from). When you try and rotate the Xbox from vertical to horizontal or vice versa, the disc will try to resist moving in that direction, thereby causing it to press itself against the drive tray and scratch VERY quickly. Didn't anybody ever have the demonstration in physics class where you hold the spinning bicycle wheel in your hands and try and rotate it side to side? Pretty difficult to turn side to side when its spinning fast, isn't it. Well thats pretty much whats going on inside the Xbox when you try and rotate it.
Most didn't, especially if it been in the last 10 years.. When I was younger I went from a US private school to a pretty good public school and the differences in education quality were dramatic in favor of the private school. I can imagine what happens at middle and low income schools in the US. Is the xbox 360 even suppose to be placed on its side? Or is it meant to be in the vertical position?
well thats a topic for a different discussion, and to finish without getting too political, the public school system sucked long before Bush became President.
Both...you choose. I have it on horizontal since it's the only way it can fit inside my entertainment unit.
lol, somewhere i saw a pic of the E3 faceplate on a Launch Team 360... grr... someone was just rubbing it in.
