http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/technology/2008/02/red_ring_of_death_returns.html  Couldn't happen in a more deserving situation! It reminds me of the classic Bill Gates BSOD when demonstrating Windows 98... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgriTO8UHvs
Bah, I really need to get over to that building tomorrow. I'm currently at GDC, but it is split between buildings and I haven't seen the other one yet.
Just to laugh at Microsoft? ;-) Haha, on the main screen it says the latest topic is... "Microsoft suffer the red ring..." Ouch, sounds painful! You can get ointment for that!
Kinda meh, is just some kiosk... That BSOD incident was historic: you had one of the most unstable version of Windows freezing right in front of Gates in person. THAT was priceless:nod:
man, I wish they'd fix the 360. I want to buy one but not if I have to replace it within 2 years (if it even gets that far). A console should last for at least 10  Yakumo
I would like to say its hit or miss, but seems quite a few people have problems with them. I have had mine for almost 2 years and never had an issue, although one of my best friends has been through 3....may I just don't play it enough to warrant a red ring of death....too busy playing Saturn ;-)
That's what I mean. Buying a 360 is like gambiling your cash away. My sega Saturn from day 1 is still going as strong as ever and it gets used every week for at least 3 hours. So if you work that out it's been powered on for well over 2067 hours since when I first got it I'd play all day, every day for well over a year. Some how I doubt a 360 would even last a quarter of that. Yakumo
Thanks to Oblivion and some of my other games, I think I'm pretty close to a quarter of that already. But I got an Elite so I wouldn't have to worry about overheating and a lot of other pluses, though. Mine did Red Ring once, but it was because I was playing Video games during a bad thunderstorm and the power surged. It worked good after that. I might also add that I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that Oblivion puts the console to its limits, and I've got almost 200 hours into the game. I've done almost everything possible in it and am ready to put it down now.
Um - am I being dumb, or shouldn't it be the bottom right light that should not be flashing? Surely that's just 'the cable's fallen out'. UPDATE: Sorry, my bad.
So you'd say that the Elite model is the way to go? They sell them for about 35'000 yen now in Japan brand new. That's the black one, right? Yakumo
Even if it gets repaired for free (like most electronics do BTW) you're still left without an X360 until they send it back. After the craptastic thermal design they used on their console the least I would expect is thier kiosk actually having good ventilation.
no that's correct, all 4 lit up is a minor issue, while three like that is a big problem. The people at MS's death line even make sure you have a 3 flashing lights problem, instead of a complete ring of lights. So the term red ring of death is actually wrong. I won't get another 360, at least for awhile, but anyone that does would be utterly stupid to not get a retailer warranty. A place like Best Buy ether lets you get a replacement off their shelf, which is guaranteed to be newer than the refurbished ones MS sends you, or they give you a gift card with the price of the 360 on it. Either way, you won't have to deal with MS's laughable repair service or outsourced customer service.
Ah yes, you're right. It's only because I encountered an X360 that had something duff with the hard drive or something, and would throw a wobbler if you had it connected and were trying to turn it on at the controller. Forgot to plug in the cable the first time, and it 3ringed on me - so it kind-of got burnt into my mind that as soon as I plugged it in, it started working. :/
yup, the black one is the elite. it's also the sexiest of the bunch. for me sexiness plays a big role in deciding which console to buy.
