Whew! That's good to hear. I can't believe I never heard that. When I first saw the PS3 pad, I had horrible memories of the US Saturn Pad...with the huge grips that made the controller feel as if it would jump out of your hands!

Honestly, I like the Dual Shock pretty much as it is right now. I think they could stand to fix the D Pad...and make it feel a little bit more natural in your hands, but it's not bad. Honestly, all I'm really hoping for is a more refined version of the Dual Shock.

They have to change it because of a lawsuit or something.

That only has to do with the rumble technology and not the shape of the controller. I'll judge the PS3 controller once I've held it but I also think that Sony will eventually end up releasing Dual Shock shaped controller. I think they purposely left themselves an out by calling it a conceptual design in case there were complaints

well, my theory is: people critiquized sony to not change the controller, sony showed an horrible controller; everyone is praying they stick with the old design, and no one's critiquizing anymore. :D

I always wanted Sony to stick with same controller. In fact I'd like for Sony, Microsoft , and Nintendo to get together and standardize the basic requirements (such # of buttons and pads) for conrollers along with controller ports (not so much an issue now) and memory cards. It would make things easier for both gamers and game designers.

Why did Immersion wait eight years to say anything about Dual Shock?

I defy anyone not to laugh at the notion of having a penis port on a controller! It's impossible not to laugh! LOL!

Wasn't Nintendo the first to feature a D pad on thier controler? In fact, they introduced the D pad with the old Game and Watch.

    They also introduced vibration.

And brought back analog control for 3D games.
They also were the first to have shoulder buttons.

    First 6 button controller.

All these things were gimmicky back in the day, but now all of this stuff is standard. I trust that they know what they're doing.

Unless it's some kind of Power Glove or something.

All companies have had their dumb arse ideas over the years. Sega had that stupid circle thing that you stood in which captured your moves and put them in to the game. Nintendo had the God awful power glove and the Gyromite game oh, and the super scope. Then again the Mega Drive Menser was crap too after the cool Master System laser style gun. Sop either way this could be a great idea Nintendo have or just another heap of crap. Let's hope for their sake its not the later.

Yes because the d pad and the 6 button controller took a design genius to come out with.

Sony has said that they wont change the design from the e3 controller much, if at all. And one of the reasons they did change the controller was indeed the lawsuit, that is, if you can still consider PSM a credible source.

And Metroid Prime 3 will use the new Revolution controllers features! "We plan on taking advantage of a number of new features in the Revolution, including the controller."

    Yea, a little vague....

    I completely agree with Hawanja.
Who knows what they're going to come up with, though, but I think I'll trust it. N64 was an absolutely great controller design in my opinion. The Rumble Pack was a riot, and the D-Pad was simply genius design.

Was it Gumpei Yokoi who came up with most of this stuff? That man was one of the great geniuses of the history of gaming.

I think the PS3 conceptual controller COMPLETELY copies off of one 3rd party PSX controller, I think it was made by Logitech or some other company but it looked almost exactly like the PS3 controller only it was blue. I'll dig up a 1997 magazine that has the ad for the controller I'm talking about. Then again I could be wrong because I'm basing my judgement now on memory.

I'll to get a hold of the ad, or someone else could, and put it up to show you all and see if it does or not.
