My first Xbox I bought in Abu Dhabi and it was new yet modded with 120gb hard drive. Obviously that was a long time ago. I have 2 soft modded xbox's I did myself and I wanted to update the dashboard on this old one and somewhere i've screwed somehting up. I'm either getting a Error 7 or it sticks on the loading screen (both pictured below as well as my ancient mod chip). I read that error 7 was usually the ribbon being loose, so I checked then replaced the ribbon...same problem. I thought maybe if I could get the XBox to boot up with slayer I could fix the problem by reformatting the hard drive but..no go, can't get it to boot to disc. I know the dvd drive workd because I tested it in another xbox. I also tried a few different hard drives, one from another xbox...still a no go. so any ideas? or is this thing dead in the water?
Code 7 is for HDD timeout, means its either not spinning up in time, not able to be read or the cable isn't seated right. if you've re seated the IDE cable and or replaced it and it still doesn't work and you've confirmed the HDD is spinning up then the HDD either has failed and needs replacing or it has a horribly slow spin up time and if that is the case you should allow the xbox to get to that error screen and then turn it off and back on quickly it should hopefully boot.
Thanks, the HDD is spinning up. Ive tried the trick you mentioned repeatedly. No luck. Since it's hard modded would another xbox hard drive maybe work? Sorry, I should have tried before asking. I placed another xbox hard drive I had and..I got error 6. Then for the heck of it, I put a band new IDE hard drive I purchased to upgrade one of my softmodded xbox's and.....(see picture below). Unfortunately it's past midnight where i'm at and I've never used slayer before and want to see if this is what I need to format a hard drive from scratch as I believe. Will give it a shot tommorow but at leass i'm IN! Thanks.
If you put a new IDE drive in, you'll have to make a new build. Last selection from your screenshot. Or bootup AID in the DVD drive, and let it do it's thing while following it all on screen.
Thanks, Have it all up and running now! Tonight before I go to bed i'll start FTPing Coin Ops Massive over, throw a ghost case on it and one of the Kids (in thier 20's) XMas gifts will be done. Glad I had this old one with a mod chip in it lying around.
Sorry to cut in but could a error code 16 still run official xbox discs (not burnt ones)? Cuz i plan on buying Splinter Cell and/or Halo 2 to fix it.
No, the console looks for xboxdash.xbe when the clock error is present before the discs default.xbe. So it will always look in C for xboxdash.xbe. (Hot swap & put a valid Xbox dash in C & that will fix your problem)
oh okay cool, Thanks! btw, is it possible to use a HDD docking station for to fix it via Xplorer360 instead of XboxHDM?
Here's all the info you need on exactly that http://forums.afterdawn.com/threads...so-install-reinstall-softmod-files-al.447659/
so... basically i can actually run a legit game on the Xbox and fix it there, how's that possible exactly since @Rocky5 said it looks for the dashboard first? or is it the fact that the hard drive is disconnected via IDE cable before the Xbox logo shows up? just curious and Thanks again!
Hotswap when error 16 is on the screen, your HDD is unlocked at that point. Discs will not load if there is an error 16.
I don't remember the actual science behind it (it's all there in that thread) but once you get the hotswap timing right (it takes a couple of tries) and your pc finally gets access to the unlocked xbox drive you can use your favourite xbox hdd app to do pretty much anything. This is how I softmodded my Xbox back in the day. I just dumped a preconfigured softmod on the drive through xplorer360 overwriting the original dash lol. But I wouldn't recommend xplorer360, it has issues with writing a multifolder structure so you'll end up having to manually create every folder that you need. There's supposed to be a better xbox hdd manager now, but since I can't recall what it's called you'll have google it
Alright guess i'll try the hotswap way then, btw is it possible to use a USB external ide cable like this to hotswap easily without opening my computer?: http://www.vantecusa.com/en/product/view_detail/266
Sorry to bring up the topic again but could i just make my Xbox get a error code 12 by unpluging the HDD ide cable while i have Splinter Cell on the dvd drive and will it run the game then since it's not looking for the clock?
I think so, but I'm not sure. Haven't touched an xbox in years so I don't remember all details. I do remember that it was easy to get errors though. I did a lot of hotswaps to fix them lol
Hope your right lol, i guess it doesn't hurt to try but first!... i'll try asking a few others around first before continuing. I do wish there was a way to kick the error code down to #13 if possible with some sorta trick
