    hmmmm FreeDOS-32
Doesn´t sound as great. As FreeDOS does, but what the heck, triple boot then ?

"Hey Jimmy, wanna come round my house and play some games?"
    "OK!"
"What OS do you wanna boot into, FreeDOS, FreeDOS-32 or Linux?"
    "OMGWTFBBQ?"

...No. 1 OS. It has to be invisible to the user. Just like the Xbox 360 dash is based off Windows, but no one notices.

opethfan: let the triple boot be an option to those who wants that. But I would prefer using Linux, and FreeDOS without the 32 in the end. But isn´t FreeDOS a 32bit OS ? since it supports fat32, and can read (with a program) NTFS filesystem, and does also support long filenames.... So if I should choose, then it would be Freedos, and some Linux system.

The PS3 uses its own OS, but there's an option for booting an external OS. Maybe that could work? As the way it stands now, DOS is lacking in hardware support and as a result, a lot of potential can be wasted compared to a more supported platform, but for those of us who still love it, its there and avalible.

What about QNX? is already meant to be used in embedded systems.

Thats what we were planning to use in our SH4-system back in the day, that or FreeBSD.

We discarded Linux cuz some said it would use more resources than the others, but again we were working around a SH4 meant to emulate every console from the 2600 to the N64.

    your not thinking of BeOS?
I havn't used QNX in like 5yrs myself.. but according to wikipedia QNX was sill active in 2006-09-28 and you can see news still posted on qnx.com
Thought it also says "The non-commercial version (QNX NC) was discontinued in 2003."

People let us stick to an X86 based tv console, with a dualboot consisting of Linux , and FreeDOS, since both system can go online. FreeDOS via Arachne. And Linux via several browsers. And no more bullshitting around.

Yup, I agree. Both Linux and freeDOS are open source and regularly updated, with wide user bases.

Wow, impressive. I wouldn't trust that cheapo plastic case though, it'd end up like a grilled cheese sandwich! :-(

If there was enough people willing to buy an overpriced (and unofficial) Pong watch that was nothing but a cheapo LCD (that you could make using an old laptop) then I'm sure theres people out there that will buy our frankenconsole:lol:

What about the name? I call Box0rz-0-r0xorz:dance:

bigger is better. its a manly ocnsole

    2. get a converter and use any controller you want

    3. HA! everyone knows "the usual place" to get xbox software and that hasn't slowed anyone down. the xbox homebrew scene is so great i actually like it. (xbmc anyone)

can someone tell me why the op wants to make a console instead of using what we already have? even if you know all the parts you need actually making the console seems impossible unless you have infinite cash

Actually PSX uses a custom version of an LSI embedded MIPS-I processor. It's neither an R3000 or R3000A.

They both run MIPS I instructions.

You've actually coded on the Playstation using official tools?

If I were using official tools, i d probably use the libraries instead of working low level , wouldnt i?

MIPS assembly is fun though - as far as experimenting goes at least.
