Nope, that won't work. It's like trying to put an ELEPHANT inside of a 1960s Volkswagen bus.

Slightly off topic ... And was a good car! For some reason I like old cars more new. Perhaps this is old age ...

l_oliveira, I would like to swap the internal (110v) PS of my DESR 5000 with one taken from an European PS2 (220v).
Which one is, according to you, the more suitable model?

You can't do that. There's no standard PS2 model with a power supply strong enough to power a DESR unit.

Why spoil a good thing? In this console, a lot of "strange" constructive solutions, do not add yourself yet another headache.

However a 60gb PS3 PSU would have enough room (160watts iirc), it will need a bit of modding though, iirc the original PSX uses the same 110v lead in cable interconnect to the PSU so you shouldn't need to cut the case... However doing a PSU conversion is a bit pointless, I just bought a cheap $30 (but very well built, not one of those shite in-line things either!) 200watt step-down converter off ebay, it has two us/eu hybrid plugs on the front, is fully fused and earthed.

    Because I can ;)
Or because I have 3 of them (PSX), HATE external PSU or external voltage converter and it's safer (*).
I asked about the PS2 PSUs only because they seem VERY similar in size/shape, I hadn't thought they could be underpowered (the DESR-5000 is rated 80W).
I would never use a PS3 PSU, there are better/smaller/cheaper options.

(*) Never happened to me, but sometimes people accidentally plug 100-110v machines in 220-240v sockets.

This my not be a MOD for the PSX however, I think the PS2 Linux Beta & 1.0 kit may work on the PSX. Maybe as Sony says it run PS2 games that need the HDD.

The usual way to start the disc Beta Linux will not work (black screen and the inscription on an unsupported disc ) By the way, on the off. site PSX, if I remember correctly, there was a list of unsupported discs. This disc is also on the list. If you run through the uLe is just a black screen.

The only one that I know that works officially is FMCB, I can't remember the revision it started support on, but if you get the newest revision, it will work. Of course, so far along in this thread, that's probably already been mentioned. I'm not going to read 5 pages just to find out, I'll just leave my help here just in case it hasn't already been mentioned.

Well, I take my words back. Start the installation succeeded. (using the uLe).
But the installation fails at the stage of creating partitions on the HDD.

Was that the beta or 1.0 kit? Also is your PSX ok as I know the HDD is a hard thing to fix... if it can be fixed.

My DESR-5000 is in full working condition. Linux Beta (original-PBPX-95501-NTSC/J).

Just saying, you guys should be careful when overriding the safety locks implementated by Sony. If your __system partition gets wiped, your PSX's XMB will be destroyed.

Guys, SONY blocked the PS2 Linux from booting on the PSX for a good reason. And it was not because you could hack the PSX with it. Read SP193 post again, with attention:

At the time there were no FMCB so the unit would be perma-bricked. IF you don't have update discs compatible with your unit or a image of your hard disk you won't be able to unbrick it...
