Or whatever it may be called, who knows, anyway... Super duper secret sources in the next toilet at the bathroom told the guys at kotaku about the new slim-down PSP coming soon. Keep in mind this isn't Playstation Portable 2, but rather a redesign of the original, so it will be sporting the same internal hardware. But that's about the only thing that hasn't changed. The new Playstation Portable will have a much slimmer design, thanks mostly to a new LED screen that will deliver an ultra-crisp image but take up far less space. That LED also helps pump up the battery life of this sexy new model, which can last as much as four times longer than the original PSP. While the new PSP still makes use of the UMD drive, it will be a faster version and to help speed up loadtimes and gameplay, the portable will come packed with 8GBs of internal flash memory. Finally, the PSP's much maligned buttons have been revamped and the D-Pad has gotten a major overhaul, giving portable gamers something more like a Playstation 3 D-pad to play with. While the new PSP will remain black, Sony is still trying to decide whether it will have a glossy or matte finish. The final price for this new PSP hasn't been set, but Sony is hoping to sell it for under $170 or so. Manufacturing should commence in the upcoming weeks, and the product is going to be officially unveiled at this year's E3. The sale date being tossed around is August, but don't be surprised if it's pushed back to September. And to think I was just about to [finally] get a PSP. But 8GBs? better screen? smaller design? improved battery and controls? and all that at the same (new) price? I have to wait this time... After all, lets be honest: who's desperate for a PSP right now? not me...
I don't really play handhelds other than in passing (on planes and whatnot) so for the most part, don't buy them. However, there's nothing on the PSP that's made me even wish I did. They should focus on fresh games. (Same w/ the PS3). Yes, I feel jilted.
Well some people actually do get some enjoyment out of the PSP, and the games on it (not just homebrew/emulation) believe it or not. I think this is great news, my 2 1/2 year old US launch PSP is still running perfectly fine, but I would certainly be interested in buying this version if the screen and battery are better. I can keep the old one for t3h R0mZ.
I agree with Taucias, For that price the 8gb flash is just undoable unless sony really want to make a big loss on each unit.
The PSP is selling well so from a money standpoint a new model doesn't really make sense. Plus the PSP as it is is just fine only thing that needs fixing is the D-Pad. Down the road I can see it happening but this soon? Parodius, Twinbee, Slamander, Gradius, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Double Upper, Dracula X chronicles, Power stone collection, Mega man Mavrick hunter X (the last great mega man game) Plenty of games on there.
Absolutely. The D-Pad (and the buttons too) are what I think really hurts the PSP. It doesn't matter how great the games are when you can't play them without battling crappy control buttons. I did install something into my PSP that seems to help some but it's ridiculus to have to do that. Honestly after the 2 Mega Man games and now CV Dracula X, there's nothing other than emulation I'd use the PSP for. It is pretty bleak to me. I like how they released things like SFA3 and the collections and such but when the controls suck, why bother?
You'd be surprized what slapping a Dpad over the existing one will do. THe PSP Dpad problem is that it's too damn big and unless you have bear claws you can't hit the diagnals. I made sure before I got Guilty Gear on my PSP to slap a D-pad mod on. Also Don't EVER spill soda on your PSP. I was deathly ill with stomach flu and I have a fridge next to where I keep my DS and PSP my mother who was taking care of me came in to get some soda and some spilled on my PSP I didn't know until a few days later when my PSP was a little sticky. The Square button would get stuck eventually I got everything just fine but geez......I'm shocked my PSP still worked.
I m looking forward to a new PSP version - perhaps i could score one of the old at a more decent price than 250 Dollars/euros. Sony don't need a new PSP. They need a big price-cut to make the damn things sell. DS' "innovation" aside, the fact that it has so many games is a result of its big user-base. Their would be more top quality titles on psp if it was a leading handheld platform and that should be Sony's concern - to get as many units in people's palms as possible.
also in April PSPs were outselling my beloved XBOX360 so people are buying this thing. and Yeah it does need more games I have quite afew and there isn't much out or coming out now that has me in a rush to get more games especally since I finally got a PS2
