Supposively Mortal Kombat II was released on Playstation but only in Japan (where as we did get it on Sega Saturn). Has anyone actually seen this or actually has it? I had heard it was supposed to be the most like the arcade compared to their 16-bit ports. I was just curious if anyone knew anything more about it or where I might find a disc.

Ive seen the disc randomly appear on ebay once and a great while. But expect to pay a $100+ for it.

Any details would be nice. Obviously I'm not paying 100$ for a disc when I own the actual arcade boards. For 100+$ I would rather obtain a proper monitor/tv of some kind to run my JAMMA board. I could probably find some half decent used cabinet or something.

So anyway, if you've actually played the port details as to why it is good or sucks would be nice.

What was the was the early euro PSX MK game circa Ridge Racer Revolution....Ultimate MK III?

That were pretty good imo, for a not so great game originally.

The PSX port is far superior to the SNES port! It's been a few years but IIRC it's the best home port. Mortal Kombat arcade games are 32-bit so naturally the 32X and PSX ports are better! SNES' low resolution is also not suitable for Mortal Kombat.

While apparently the [SIZE=-1]TMS34010 cpu was some 32-bit processor, we are talking about a fairly simple 2D fighting game. The biggest issues were Genesis and SNES were not capable of matching the screen resolution, color depth, and sound quality. The Playstation should be capable of it with most of the arcade quality intact.

The Sega 32X port of Mortal Kombat II was great however with a few issues. One it seemed to run off a combination of recycled parts. Sure it had the Arcade Character sprites, the selection screen background, but in game the level backgrounds were rendered entirely by the Genesis in limited color depth. The music was again recycled Genesis. Oh and the code seemed to have the same annoying disappearing fatality gore sprites disappearing.

If the 32X had better music quality and fixed the few issues with the disappearing gore sprites it would have been perfect. I could live with the lower color depth abckgrounds. The Sega Saturn was a huge disappointment when I played that. While the graphics where there, the sound (again the music really) was absolutely horrifying. Why didn't they just spool recorded arcade quality music from the drive.

Anyway, still no real details on the PS port of MK2. It's a shame I didn't grab some beta ISO I saw of it online years back.

Oh and the SNES Mortal Kombat II port was amazing. While the resolution was much lower it was adapted very well and had excellent color and sound.

Until you try to morph and that 32-bit system keels over and screams "FATALITY! I GIVE UP!" ;)

I have to agree, when it comes to gameplay, the SNES version of MK2 is top dog among the console ports.

How much is that going for?

Actually I think the 32X port stands up against the SNES port. It beats the SNES on the graphics and resolution, but fails miserably on the music. Either port is great.

Nah, SNES Mortal Kombat 2 with the red blood code rules overall.

i coulda sworn that the snes version was only censored in japan. I was actually shocked to play it and find out it was true. I thought they were more loose about censoring over there?

Um... both USA Mortal Kombat II versions (1.0 and 1.1) are completely uncensored from power up, and there is no way to disable the gore. Ditto with the Genesis version. As far as the japanese versions I don't know.

The only blood code I know of is the original Mortal Kombat for Genesis, unless you count game genie codes that change the palette on SNES so the white goo becomes red blood again. For MK2 I was pretty sure there was no censorship.

well im aware that the amercan version are uncensored, but for some odd reason the japanese version of mk2on snes is censored. When you perform a fatality, the screen goes blakc and white as it is being performed.

I'm 100% sure that Mortal Kombat on the SNES had green blood and that part 2 hard almost no blood compared to the Mega Drive version. Could this have been a dream? Crap game anyway  Street Fighter and KOF all the way as far as 2D fighters go.

Many current games have green blood as a censorship option. MK2 on the Super NES did not from what I remember; the green blood idea was introduced a bit later, I think.

It might have had less blood than the Megadrive version, yes.

The SNES port didn't have less blood, it's blood is even more true to the arcade game than the Gen/MD game.

The Mortal Kombat GG game also had a blood code.

Japan is not necessarily more tolerant of excessive gore in videogames; Biohazard 4 was censored while RE4 was not. Where Japan is more tolerant of excessive gore is in movies where they have a whole sadistic gore exploitation genre.

nope. no green blood in SNES MK2. I remember this b\c I and my brother rented this when it was just new. And just before we were going to start playing it we saw a news program on TV talking about it and how violent and tasteless it was and showing some finishing moves (probably to make parents upset)
