I played MK2 on my SNES just yesterday, and like it has been said, there is no censorship or any other nastyness. It is perfect. In MK3 they do have some different blood palettes like an oil that comes out of the cyber ninjas, but that's like it should be. Thanks OtakupunkX, I'll take a look at that. I'll post how that goes, right now it's downloading particularly slow. Update: Well I would guess you didn't try the game on an Original Playstation system. I did, it works great on my modded PSOne unit. I did not try it in the PS2, in EPSXE it fails miserably to render hardly any graphics, though you can hear the game. About the port itself.. The graphics seem to be pretty much what you'd expect which is slight resolution difference, but all the color and frames are there. The sound effects are excellent. The music seems not to be as great as it could be, but its not spooled from the disc, but even still I think they could have done better. It's still better than the 32X tunes, definitely better than the Saturn tunes. The loading times are short, but a tad annoying. You are given the option to enable Player Name Voice Samples. Ex: for an extra bit of loading you have the voice say "Sub-Zero" when you select him, as well as "Sub-Zero Wins" at the end of a match. You also can set the usual Shang Tung morphing rules to No One, Opponent, Anyone. I've performed the 2 stage fatalities, one of which didn't appear to require any loading at all (Kombat Tomb) and my Deep Freeze.. The Deep Freeze required loading right after the F,F,D,HK which was annoying but fast. After I did the final presses to shatter him, some more but quick loading. The most annoying thing is I didn't get that so satisfying muderlicious shattering sound when he uppercuts the iced victim. You do get a not very icey fumbling sound for the pieces that rain down. It also seems to me like the game runs real slow till the next match, though it may be my imagination. So far it looks like a solid port. The sound effects during the match are all very satisfying so far. It's still early on, but I'm hopeful I'll enjoy the port. Again, the loading times are a tad bit annoying but I can live with it, the music isn't the best but again you can live with it. The 32X port has the advantage with the no loading times definitely, but crappier backgrounds. Oh another observation, it seems the CPU will actually finish you unlike other console ports (like SNES) were I can't ever remember the CPU doing a finisher other than a stage fatality. Overall I'd say it's a good port, though seeing how rare it is I couldn't say spending the money on it would be worth it considering how cheap the arcade boards are. I'll certainly enjoy it till I can get a TV that is capable of the MK/Midway refresh rate. The frequent loading can be forgiven since for the most part gameplay is unaffected by anything negitive.
EP is capped at 40kb/s I believe...but I dont know that, im not a staff member there or anything, I swear....dotdotdot...But yea, I just dont like how it plays, but Im not a fan of that many ports nowadays. The little things just bug the hell out of me, even now that I dont own MK2 anymore.
does anyone know if theres codes for this version? I know Probe did this one, but since they're out of business, how else can we find out? (Gameshark?) Thanks
What do you mean by codes? Codes like the SNES version had? Who knows. I'm sure though that you could hack some codes with AR/PAR/GameShark/Whatever you use. I would doubt you'd find some posted online because of the rareness of the title.
im sure there are more little differences scattered throughout the psx port, but among other things, shang tsungs victory "stance" is different and is actualy animated.
I can't remember. Shang Tsung's victory stance was animated in the arcade? I just saw it on the PSOne and could not remember seeing it before.
In the arcade, Shang Tsung's victory is a single still frame pose really. I do recall that on the PSx it was different but I can't check right now. Oh and it does work on the PS2 if I didn't mention that already, unlike MK Trilogy.
