DISHWASHER?! Holy crap. I personally would never put something in there, that I put dishes in :\

I would've just put disinfectant in a tub and throw it in.

As I was taught by TriMesh earlier in this thread, most people use dishwasher like devices to clean electronics nowadays and it actually works. Just don't throw in things like HDD's or anything like that.

I just wouldn't put such a dirty object in a dishwasher, dirt can sometimes hang around in dishwashers. Then that goes on your dishes. I just wouldn't feel safe doing that.

Nothing like some roach powder to give your immune system that ''don't give a fuck'' swagger.

I luck out when buying my used consoles, the worst I have had so far was tobacco inside my old Mega Drive as my dad used to smoke.

And instead of a dishwasher, I used 99.9% alcohol to clean the worst all surfaces, then disassemble my stuff and put it in some hot water with soft soap and start scrubbing with a toothbrush. All my gear is extremely clean.

Once you start using the dish washer you don't go back. I do not just clean my consoles, I refurb gear for others and also resell a lot of stuff that I clean and repair. A good dishwasher does a tremendous job and saves you a lot of time.
I just had a SNES that was disgusting on the outside. ( This one is clean iside though, no roach )

It was just coated with grime. However the case had no breakage and it looked grey and not yellow.
I just shoved it in the Dishwasher and it came out like new. I could have used 30 min of my time rubbing it in a tub and it would likely not have looked so good.
    Dishwasher ftw.

I also clean my consoles and controllers in the sink, but I use laundry powder instead of dish soap and let the plastic soak for half an hour or so before I start scrubbing. This softens up the gunk and I swear it also brightens up the color of the plastic too. PC Engines seem to come out whiter and Spice GameCubes come out with a brighter orange.

Interesting! Maybe it does that because dish powder is more powerful?

Probably! And most laundry powders have an oxidization action, which is suppose to give a much deeper, more through clean.

Finally! Someone figured out how to do it the proper way! Amen!

It's not just that but also there can be unpredictable chemical reaction, creating really nasty toxic stuff. Not to mention that putting someone's dirty stuff in a diswasher is just freaking disgusting.
Using a tub or sink is a way better idea.

That's interesting to note Flash! Looks like I was doing it properly.

I like to let my yellowed plastic parts soak in Oxy clean water in the sun. I find that it works better and is easier than Retro bright.
Thing is you gotta figure a way to have the parts not float.

I usually sink my items with a nice see through glass plane. Works everytime.
