So, good job guys, you made me never want to open another console AND vomit vigorously whilst I don't open console.

On a more serious note, I'm surprised by how many people never use or at least never mention a hot water cupboard (or equivalent place with a different name) for drying. If you need electronics dried to perfection, nothing beats that. Plus, you're much less likely to risk rust and such on metal parts, and it does a more thorough job. The only problem is that sometimes you end up with dust. Just don't leave it in there for a week nor under something that gets used a lot (e.g. underneath bath towels that'll be moved multiple times a day if you live with a bunch of douchebags people).

If you have tarnished or powdery dry looking plastic on your console, use Armor all original, it is marvelous.

Armor all, it is made for the very purpose of making plastic look new and shiny.

I can honestly say with all the old PCs I've repaired in my time the worst I've seen is dust, I'm rather shocked by all the roaches people have been finding inside consoles.

There can be bugs and crap like that in PC's. I've seen it happen (on Youtube at least).

Are car plastics and console plastics that fundamentally different? Im no a chemist but the results on dem old N64 are pretty crazy so my opinion is that you can apply lavishly.
It does give the plastic a kind of oily feel but from what I gathered it leaves a silicon based film on the plastic, this gives it that ''wet'' look and also protects it from UV and such.
However that coating is pretty durable and the ''wet/oily'' feel becomes less after a little while, and the plastic still looks good.

i bought a box of broken electronic items off ebay about a year ago (xbox 360, contollers, cell phones etc.), the xbox 360 was the item i wanted, when i opened the box there were a few roach legs, no big deal... once i got the xbox shell opened i was blown away by what i saw... the only way i could explain it was if you had a gallon of cockroach peanut butter and smeared it everywhere... i threw everything but the motherboard and drive pcb away, i wrapped them in a plastic bag and froze them in my freezer for a week then gave them an IPA bath.

i should have taken a picture, it was definitely puketastic.

I'm going to have that squeemish feeling again. I can just see how bad the Xbox is. I would imagine the controllers being worse.

What, pray tell, is an IPA bath?

Because I'm just imagining soaking them all in lots of expensive beer, which sounds like a bad idea.
