The songs were my favorite. Oh, wait, I mean they almost killed me. I could see having some fun doing this, if you had the right mindset for it.
Incredible story, Twimfy. Thanks for sharing. It could make a great movie - kind of a scary "lost in translation".
Actually now that I can look at the video all the way through....that's the good one. There's another one where I do the dances.
I'm not really seeing the elf part, I think you look like Robin hood then once you add the hat glasses and coat you turn into Merlin. It was pretty funny though man, not hatin. Whats this? Oh thats a comment posting on how stupid it was for them to make u do that. Hawk
I tried no to watch the video because I don't want to laugh at your suffering but I couldn't resist. I wanted to ask, do they even understand what they are saying?
Very interesting story, I'd also love to see you in an elf costume, but the video won't work for me either. As for your experiences, I'm glad you apparently took it the right way and didn't start hating Korea at all. Going back makes it seem a lot more like a negative event that only expanded your personal experience. And in the end, it gave me confidence that living in an Asian country (I already heard similar things about Japan) can't be so depressing if someone wants to go back after such an adventure About the racism and violence, I was actually not so much surprised about your little side-stories as all this is very accurately depicted in Korean movies and not necessarily in a criticizing/shocking way. They must be rather confident even about their weaknesses. The racism-aspect is also one thing that keeps me from "really" wanting to go to, for example, Japan.
Your story is very interesting. I plan to go to Korea one day, but it's kinda freaky or shall I say F-ed up that people can push other people into oncoming traffic or slit someones throat in public due to relationship problems. I suppose that as long as you avoid the areas that happen in is best. I wanna go to korea one day, it's mostly money related issues keeping me down. -You say you got a Samsung Saturn, or supposedly in the text I guess. Mind showing a picture of it? I really want one, and if I go to korea, I'm not leaving without some type of Samsung Saturn stuff. Even though you pointed out the violence, the run down schools and homes, and the evil boss, I still wanna go. As for me, I cant see the video either. And ad dances around the video and wont go away till I click it, and even then, the video still freezes
It is not possible to avoid the random acts of violence and harm. There are no good and bad areas of Korea. The whole country is driven by alcohol and these freak outs are everywhere. The throat slitting incident happened in a really nice Indian restaurant outside my apartment and they weren't street mobs or youths, they were a middle aged married couple having a meal. I do still recommend the place, every country sounds bad if you isolate the less favorable incidents. And there is another link to the video http://www.metacafe.com/watch/277524...reans_english/ As for the Samsung stuff I don't have any of my korean haul left. All sold to various people on here and eBay. Well, I really hope you do find what you are looking for but it is very slim pickings it's practically non existent, Korea is a country fascinated with NEW technology so they often just trash or ditch the old stuff. What was there I bought or turned down due to its shocking condition. Many time the store assistants would laugh at me if I bought something retro and they couldn't believe that I'd hand over the asking price for what they were selling sometimes. The most shocking crime I saw there was a Divers Dreamcast which had been left on a counter playing the Virtua Tennis intro over and over so many times as an add that it had severe screen burn, was cracked and covered in dirt too. You also have to be pretty crafty and direct. One retro store had some pretty nice items behind the counter but the guy would never let me behind to see. So I gave him $20 as a bribe and he let me behind the counter. Got a handful of Korean genesis games and on the floor in the corner was a box full of about 200 sealed samsung copies of Virtual on and Virtua Fighter 2 for only $5 each. Would have bought them all but I was stuck to a budget that day.
Indeed when I was in Chicago, the first week I was there, I was walking home quite late at night when I witnessed the end of a gang shooting. Still spent over 2 years in the states and loved it and didn't see any other incidents and ironically enough I felt safer walking the streets at night then I did in the UK... I wouldn't have done that, if he didn't want to sell me stuff then that's his loss. I am sure if you walked away he probably would have stopped you.
Just to let you know I am currently writing a book about my travels. Not to be published (maybe via lulu or something) which will go a lot more in depth about my travels in Korea and other places. I'm doing it as a sort of ongoing journal, starting back in Korea right up to current day (as I am still travelling after a brief stint in england). If anyone is interested let me know and I'll provide a link when it's done.
Hey just interested in which agency you used to go to korea? Any particular agencies you would reccomend?
