Very nice collection! The Japanese and PAL hardware collections aren't complete, though. You're missing a few consoles from each and most of the PAL accessories, it would seem.

I think he meant complete as in "complete in box hardware", not a complete set! Obviously there are quite a few variants missing, but that collection comes pretty damn close already... Skeleton Tectoy Saturn, wtf!

Haha yes by "complete" I meant with box/inserts/manuals/controller/hookups. Not implying I have a complete set. There's quite a lot of variants out there I don't have like JP Derby Stallion, JP Toys R Us Sonic, Asian Video CD, Asian model 1 longbox, Tectoy model 1 longbox, Tectoy white, Korean model 2, Hi Saturn Navi. Not to mention all of the sticker US/PAL console box variants. But most of those are very hard to find. Also shipping from Europe is expensive so I don't have a lot of PAL stuff.

Awesome collection. Have you ever seen this US box variant before? Sorry about the crappy pictures.

Thanks for sharing the pics. Actually I have seen 2 of those in an ebay auction awhile back, and I've never seen them again since. It must be one of the rarest US boxes.

I wonder what the story was. Did people complain about the model 1 controllers so Sega imported Japanese controllers and sold them in the US?

It might explain why I've seen some ebay US listings with a gray controller and the rest of it US stuff. They must have just thrown the box out!

Ooh, gotcha! Good to know they're all complete :) And variant collecting for Saturn is getting very expensive nowadays, so you've done well to get so many!

Yes, the Tec Toy boxed skeleton is very nice! I've only got the standard one myself.

They were released very shortly before the black ones came out either separate or packed with the console and I am pretty sure only Toys R Us got them. I would say the stores received only one maybe two shipments of these because they were gone in a flash and then the black ones appeared.

If I had to make a guess I would say that it was either a test run or that Sega screwed up and shipped a batch of grey ones over first and decided it wasn't worth shipping them back. I lean to the latter myself simply because the black ones arrived so soon after that they must have already been in transit.

Yes I think they were just trying to get rid of the stock since there wasn't too many of them.
