Mystery Sega Announcement at E3

Discussion in 'Rare and Obscure Gaming' started by Greatsaintlouis, Apr 29, 2004.

  1. Kudos to madhatter who sent me this link: http://general.gamerfeed.com/gf/news/6272/

Now it's probably just me jumping the gun, but the announcement states that in addition to whatever this is, we are going to hear about their upcoming titles, so I think a mere game announcement, even if it is Shenmue 3, is unlikely.

Could this be what every Sega fan has been hoping for since mid 2002?

Maybe the dreamcast follow up or a handheld,or something very different,or just too much hype?WHo knows ;-)

    I truly hope so!

Now GSL, doesn't something like that makes you think about selling a kidney on the black market to pay for your E3 trip? I know I would :smt043

    1. I'm so pumped for the prospect of a new sega console...I so love Sega arcade games...Daytona, VF, Virtual On, Crazy Taxi, ANYTHING SEGA...I love arcade games...They're awesome...wow...this big announcement is blowing my mind.

    2. Man, I'm drunk. End of first year of college=teh awesome.

But if you really think about it,I doubt sega would/could make such a big step to create a console follow up at the moment.A handheld would be more plausible.Much better would be to continue the dreamcast,it's still better as the PS2 so why not throw in some more good games?

Don't get your hopes up too much guys. It's just going to be more disappointing.

  7. I really just don't know what to think - in all likelyhood, a re-release of the Dreamcast is the most plausable thing to me, with a handheld coming in second. I'm not totally ruling out the possibility of something new, but it seems those two possibilities are more likely. Whatever it is, I am hoping it is Sega's return to the hardware arena, but for all we know, it could just be an announcement about Shenmue 3 or a merger with Sammy or something. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too bad, but oh how I'd like to believe. And yeah, even a Dreamcast re-release would rock - by now, Sega has got to know that there is a market for the games.

And yes Yceman, I am seriously weighing the risks of having only one kidney - I want to go so bad it's not even funny. Anyone want to buy a barely used PS2 Linux Kit? $200 would pay for my bus ticket... :smt022

Hey GSL, Maybe you should try and do a "E3 Swag" type deal with board members.....People Paypal you a set amount and then they can claim that amount back off of you in E3 freebies. The main problem being you don't know what/how much you will get :/

Not really a practical solution.....but hey, if you start a paypal fund for it I'd be willing to chip in a few $ :)

  9. Heh, that is a good idea, but I just wouldn't feel right - what if I got a ton more cash than swag? Rest assured, if I do make it I'll be loading up on stuff for redistribution here, but I'd feel more honest taking money for things in my possession than for things I might return with. Thanks for the idea, though!

But just a precaution. Be ready just incase you hear bad news instead of good news.

I someone how don't think it's going to be anything massive. Shenmue 3 is I think the best news we could hope for that's plausible. As Chihiro just came out, it's probably not going to be an announcement of a new arcade board. A console or handheld? Unfortunately, the chances of that are so slim it's laughable. :(

I don't think SEGA will be doing anything as great as shenmue 3.
Seeing as those a-holes called sammy are practacly destroying every bit of talant and creativity withing sega.

I wish the announcement was that sega merged with nintendo or at least away from sammy.

A new console from sega will never happen anymore, the company doens't have the money to develope let alone market a new machine with 3 heavy weight competitors on the market.

Since the article already mentioned they will be announcing their upcoming games at the event as well, I think we can rule out Shenmue 3 as the big announcement. My money, were I betting, would either be on a merger with Sammy or a Dreamcast rerelease. Dreamcast makes sense - they have done it before, there's plenty of demand for it now, and it is still more than able to compete with the other consoles. But it's still a long shot.

Perhaps a Sammy/Sega Atomiswave home console.. that would also play Dreamcast games (seeing as its basicly the same hardware anyway)

It would be easy to put the current cart games onto gd-roms, and they would make use of the extra ram etc in the console.

...and with such awesome games confirmed for atomiswave hardware, like kof'04, Sammy vs Capcom etc.. it would really make a lot of money in Japan... doupt it would see a release outside it though.

   )

Heck at this point I would be just as happy if they said there were going to start manufacturing/sales of the dreamcast backup. I know so many folks that fell in love with the system after its cancelation.

But hey were just all fantasising here anyway right... for now I will just expect to get disapointed.

Speeking of getting into E3. Anyone know what the requirments are to attened ?

My powerbook and cam will be there, so ill post pics here when i can!

   )

anything sega is great tho i doubt thell create another system as when the dc died they stated that they were not going into that area anymore just staying with games producing. So maybe a few more titles for the dc i expect including a shenmue boxset with 1 2 and three all on dc :D that would be sweet

If anyone going to E3 gets any sega/dc related goodies pm me and ill happily buy it :D

Well my opinion is that Shenmue 3 would be impossible because Yu Suzuki left Sega a month or two ago because of Sammy.
