I seriously doubt it, as much as I would love it to happen. The only thing I can think of that might happen along these lines is Sammy releasing a SEGA-branded home version of the Atomiswave platform, and I doubt that.

If the DC was rereleased as a budget console, it would be the best thing ever. But it just ain't gonna happen.

Did i totaly miss this or maybe i dont remember but thats sad news!

I say sega should sell out to M$ and take lead in dev a next console or something under an M$ and Sega name. They done it before so i dont see why not.

I know this is going to piss off the Sega fans off so try not to flame me too bad. Sega is never going to make another console again. It is a no win situation for them. Sega's reputation with consoles is ruined in the US and probably Europe as well. They would probably fare better in Japan but being a success in Japan just doesn’t cut it anymore. Too many people have gotten burned with both the Saturn and the Dreamcast being canceled so soon because of Sega's mishandling. Now that's not a knock on those systems. Both have their pros and cons. And I'm sure the diehard fans like GSL and others would be there on launch day cash in hand. Die Hard fans can't support a system though (Neo-Geo is the exception rather than the rule). We haven't even gotten into what would happen to their stock.

The same thing happened to Atari in the 1990's. They tried to compete one more time with the Jaguar after their reputation was screwed and it pretty much killed them. Thankfully Sega seems to have learned from their mistakes.

As for them re-releasing the Dreamcast. If they were than word would have leaked long ago. All the component manufactures have long since moved on to other contracts which would have to be filled before they even began again. News that big would have leaked by now.

Why would Sega anyway? It's doubtful any major developers would support it and any games that Sega made for it would have to have to be budget priced. Otherwise Sega would lose money. Why would they do that when they could make the same game on the PS2, GC, or Xbox and (A) have a broader audience and (B) charge full price. This doesn’t even take into account the money Sega would lose tooling up for production again.

As for what I thin the announcement is. I'm going to go with ASSEMbler say that it's a merger. Or some type of collaboration with another major developer. Then again maybe it's that long rumored sequel to NiGHTS into DREAMS.

    Sega + Sammy ?

I really hope that Sega to look back and see how many good franchises they have.

It's just me, or everybody dreams with a new Alex Kidd game? (specially if it's a remake of Alex Kidd in Miracle World)

    A. Snow I totally agree, but Sega was mostly very innovative and took big riscs on both game and console side, that's why I say you never know whats going to happen.

Sega could do what SNK is doing with the NEOGEO. They should bring back support for the dreamcast and cater to its fans but of course charge insane prices for the games like SNK does for its NEOGEO games. On top of that. They should make the new games non-region so that they can be played world wide. I would support Sega all the way if they ever made such a decision. But I doubt they would make such a decision.

Besides, just to not burst into tears over what they will announce. I'm not gonna keep my hopes up.

Wasn't the NeoGeo already axed in favour of the AtomisWave board?

  9. Not sure, but I think the arcade Neo Geo systems are out for Atomiswave, but I haven't heard anything about the AES being out or not.

    Atomiswave

A home based Atomiswave system would be great as long as they keep pumping out games for it.

  19. OOOOH, another Splatterhouse is not a rumor!!!

Hell, I think if the surprise were Sega making a home Atomiswave console, I'd jump onboard. Arcade perfect Guilty Gear Isuka *drool*. Plus you can't deny that for something that is supposed to be stuck inside an arcade cabinet, the Atomiswave is pretty nifty looking...

A home based atomishwave console would be cool but like neogeo home console also be unpayable for nomal people like me (i'm not so insaine to spend hundreds on a game hell the 50 euro's you have to pay for a next-gen game is already insainly high if you ask me)
