    Shock sega announcement!!!!!!!

"This coming E3 will announce sega's end to the home videogaming scene, insiders from sega suggest an arcade and trading card only set up from sega. Tom Strokes a financial clerk from sega europe spoke out "well john the truth is sega are in dire need of regeneration and growth from the core fanbase, with this direction sega are hoping to scale down their operation whilst aiming to maximise profit from the arcade sector" as for the trading cards this seems like a new venture for sega, hoping to jump on the pokemon bandwagon they will produce trading cards based on their world famous gaming characters. Expect more detail to follow at E3"

I hope it's not that Matrix Online deal with Warner Bros. :smt076

Anything less than a partnership (Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo) or a new console will be unacceptable. Of course, I will also take the announcement of a new Panzer Dragoon, Shenmue, NiGHTS, Space Channel 5, or Rez (although the last 2 are unlikely since the head of UGA left because of Sammy). :smt120

Damn, what I fear came true...

That stupid Matrix Online game is the "explosive" announcement. :smt022

After the last 2 movies, doesn't Warner Bros. know that the cash cow has been milked dry?

Another E3 come and gone, another year with no Shenmue 3 info :smt076

Since you live out there in beautiful and sunny LA,you would not have had the pleasure to read one of the most memorable and brilliant Sega interviews of recent years by UK mag Edge last year. When Suzuki san was asked the question on Shenmue 3,he sighed ,held his head down ,shrugged and muttered ....Not yet.Which Edge took as not ever, mind you he had Hisoa the head honcho sitting right next to him and with sales figures like they were for the two shenmue games,it simply isn't finacially viable for Sega,as much as we diehard Shenmue fans would love to see it.I think the main problem is that the Shenmue 2 engine even doesn't cut it now really against today's competition on the graphics front,so it would mean going completely back to the board with the third and final chapter in the series(or is is the final chapter, some Am2 interviews have proved condradictory).I think Suzuki will finish the story for the fans some way,but if Sega does not give him the chance in game form,he may have to go with his other idea of doing it as an interactive movie/cgi film.Pity as I am really looking forward to going home and kicking the living shit out of Fuk san just for the hell of it.(He has to be up for one of the most irratating game characters ever.)

I think one of the main concerns for suzuki and Am2 is that Shenmue was meant to play out as one big story where you picked up where you left off,and with it swapping consoles all the time, that's not really possible is it??I wish they had just finished the series for the fans on the Dc,I mean that is still an option open to Sega and Suzuki,to sell it exclusively to the fans through Sega direct for the console it is meant to be on ..Dreamcast.But that won't wash with the shareholders, the see the figures it took to make and then what they would get back from that and probably throw up their ham rolls or fried rice.My opinion is simple, better to make something back than nothing. :prayer:

Releasing Shenmue 3 on Dreamcast makes alot of sense.

First, Shenmue and Shenmue II are both on Dreamcast, so people can have the entire series on one system. Most people who own and still play DC are diehard Sega fans, so they will most likely purchase Shenmue 3...that would really be going out with a big BANG.

Second, AM2 can just tweak the Shenmue II engine on DC, which probably is already pushing the DC to it's limit. It is still adaquate enough for today's graphics standard, and AM2 does not have to invest any more time and resources for a new engine, so they can focus on gameplay and content.

And finally, releasing DC games are still somewhat profitable. The recent PS2/PC dating sims ports on DC sell an average of 5,000 copies, while the more popular King of Fighters games sell above the 10,000 mark. Remember when Sega of America cancelled Shenmue II on DC, and everybody imported the European version? That made Shenmue II the best selling European DC games. So if AM2 includes an option for English subtitles in the Japanese release, I predict Shenmue III can sell over the 100,000 with all the American and European gamers importing the game.

Not really a bad investment. Again, Yu Suzuki said the storyline is pretty much done, so putting it on the existing DC Shenmue II engine should not cost Sega a fortune to do. :toimonster:

I've literally just finished Shenmue I and found nothing wrong with the Graphics in that....I'm not actually a fan of the Fighting system in the game...but the story/normal gameplay is quite fun. Having not played Shenmue II yet I'm assuming its engine is even better than the first....if so I think the Graphics for it will be kick-ass enough for todays standards ^_^

And yeah, I'd import Shenmue III :) But more importantly....I need to find a copy of Shenmue II cheap enough for a lowly student such as myself to buy :(

You are so naive, guys. You have no idea how much time and ressources (= money) it takes to do a game, even a sequel such as Shenmue III.

Dreamcast is not profitable anymore, period. Die hard fans are cool (I am one myself) but they don't make a system lives. Selling 100k units of a DC game today is a joke, and I'm unsure it would be even profitable in the case of such games (programming is just a part of the cost). And Shenmue III deserve to be a technical improvement.

Dating sims and porting KOF cost almost nothing. I guess it is a ~5 people 6 months work.

I'll think you'll find that most of the PS2 dating games are ports of the Dreamcast versions which are normally ports of PC versions :smt024
