I'm pretty sure Chuck Norris could karate chop a nuclear missile in half, but don't quote me. On a more serious note, I am surprised N Korea has gotten away all this (remembering the torpedo incident recently as well). Unfortunately, we have no idea what's really going on behind the scenes (do we ever?) so it's a tough call either way. Still, going in and kicking ass wouldn't hurt though - Another dictator gone means one less excuse for a war down the line, which isn't a bad thing imho. There aren't many crazy dictators left now... Bush has gone, Berlusconi is too old... Just Iran and N Korea left!
It's found at the start of the unmoderated thread... "this thread is the ONLY place you can discuss politics on the entire forum", according to, um, Assembler.
One of the reasons all the great empires through history fell is because they were spread too thin and at battle on multiple fronts. Also, more people die from coconuts than shark attacks each year.
You're naïve if you think Bush and Berlusconi even have the slightest resemblance to dictators... And if you seriously believe there are only two dictatorships in the world, well...
Something like this had been predicted to happen. With Kim Jong Il's son being positioned to take over and he needs to earn the respect of the military. He will likely be lauded in North Korea as a brilliant leader whose strategy dealt the deadly blow the to the puppets of the imperialist United States. This was also no doubt timed to happen right after they showed off their new upgraded nuclear facility. They are gambling that having that fresh in everyone's eyes will keep South Korea's response in check.
It astounds me that people actually think John McCain and (ugh) Vice President Palin could actually accomplish anything of worth, or do any better. We elected the better, smarter, more qualified man, what's happening now is the best we're gonna get. Unless you really, really, really think Mrs. Non-rape-kit-providing-I-shoot-wolves-from-a-helicopter-quit-being-governor-for-a-reality-TV-show-abstinence-only-oh-shit-my-daughter-is-pregnant could be doing a better job. Let's not forget who these people are. Edit: Oh yeah, and she could see Russia from her house, so that makes her a foreign policy expert.
Sometimes I wonder if people actually pay attention when politicians talk... At least PART of the time. C'mon!!! Sarah Palin has a reality show where she SHOOTS ENDANGERED ANIMALS!!! Is that presidential material? I don't think so
Whoever the President in the US is would not change anything now. NK is China's bitch. South Korea is trying to build their economy and if they start bombing NK, then China will fight for NK like it did in the Forgotten War back in the 50s. China is under a lot pressure to pony up and begin playing by the rules in the world economy but is being very reluctant in doing so. the fact that this NK incident happen within such a short time period is no surprise that someone wants to divert attention away from China.
China is not going to fight for North Korea. China is desperately trying to hold them together because they don't want the flood of refugees if they were to collapse. If a collapse is inevitable then what benefit is there to China? The only other was not having South Korea on their border but that isn't nearly as important as it once was. And who is the US president absolutely does make a difference. If the president is considered weak (which Obama is in Asia) North Korea will be far more emboldened to pull stunts like this while South Korea will feel the need to act independently.
Just starve em out, they are on the brink as-is. The real issue is south korea hates northerners. Last thing they want is millions of uneducated, backwards poor northerners. Better to keep them placated with aid until they have their own revolution.
Yeah, like when Bush totally did awesome shit after they tested launched missiles (a couple of times) with one half landing in the sea of Japan and the other going over Japan. That was awesome. Also when we pillaged Iraq b/c they might have had WMDs... and then we had proof that N. Korea did. Too bad they don't have oil. Yeah... was waiting for this. It's not like they're committing genocide or anything. Unlike those countless other countries that are trying to break theirs down. EDIT: Please resize that stupid image (0x0 preferrably)
I find the fact that US wants to get involved in all this business that isn't theirs displeasing at the least. They want to act like the owners of this world, while they obviously are not and will never be (just like the Roman Empire, then see how they fell...). Just let NK collapse on itself. And if China really were NATO, Japan and South Korea's enemies NATO Japan and S.K. wouldn't produce every electrical thing in China, with the people of the non-producing countries getting worse and worse, and the politicians and the corporation managers getting richer and richer. Well, if they're producing everything electrical in China and China DOES really go against the U.S. and its allies, well that's a major fuckup on the part of them, because if China wins, good luck restarting all the industries which closed because they wanted to make obscene profit margins. China's army is the biggest in the world and can hurt a lot much more so than the United States's.
Of course there are more than two dictators in the world, I wasn't being that serious! As for Berlusconi... Well, if you consider that he owns (and owned) all the prime time tv stations, as well as newspapers and publishing houses (I mean the major players) before, during, and after his election. Yeah, I'd say he was a dictator in every sense of the word, he simply got there by 'legal' means (in his country) I'd be hard pressed to think of any other Western democracy that would have allowed him to get away with it. He is, frankly speaking, one of the smartest dictators around... if not THE smartest, for his achievements. Give anyone the tools he has at his disposal and they could make anyone president, heck they could probably put a monkey in the top seat of power if they really tried. Naive? I don't think so. As for Bush, well that's another debate, but any leader who takes office without a majority vote (and lots of tinkering 'with' the votes) is simply a dictator who didn't get caught. (imho) Not unlike Berlusconi in many ways. To drive the point home a little further - we're talking about a president who went to war with another country without the approval of the population at large (well.. he wasn't the only one) - Just how much does a leader have to 'ignore' the people and do exactly what they want before you consider them a dictator anyway? Anyway, way off topic so I'll rest there.
