If we need some advice about short memories, I can't think of a better group of people to learn from than Europeans. When do you start the lessons? We'd be particularly interested in the "we created most of the problems that exist in the world today but now just sit on our asses and blame someone else for trying to do something about it" part.

Well, for one, he has to have absolute power, something Berlusconi or Bush never had. And to be honest, the option for a leader to ignore the demands of the populace during a term for which he has been elected, is one of the best things about democracy. We, the people, :)-P) have limited or no understanding about every decision the leaders make. For example, Switzerland was the last (?) European country to have full voting rights for all women, why? Because those who could vote was against it. If it wasn't for the professionals, Sweden would still have had left sided trafic, which we had in the 60's and noone misses.

Please don't lump me in with the rest of this country just because I was born and am forced to reside here.

I dislike this thread, beyond just being scared of crazy motherfuckers who are cool with mass killing of their opposing peoples.

How about a discussion based on the original premise of this thread instead of pointless bickering and generalizations?

Christer-swe, I'm Italian and Berlusconi and "official" politicians in general (who are barely better than him) own all the media of the nation.
Berlusconi also owns Italian soccer, pretty much, he is the owner and president of AC Milan, he owns construction companies, one of Italy's biggest supermarket chains (Auchan), he owns many of the most watched television channels, he now even controls the state television, so the six most watched television channel are all his, he's in the soccer pay tv business, I could go on...
And to think he started as an outlaw who worked around state legislation about television... now he pretends to be a president even.
And he's always supported by the mafia. Almost the personal police of the politicians, who use the mafia when they see it fit for their interests and "arrest" mafiosos when they aren't useful to them anymore.

This place has gone way off the original topic and somehow ends up where America is at fault somehow, as if the country is the solution and cause of all of the world's problems....

For the record I don't think America is to blame for anything... Bush a loose cannon, yes... but that's about it.

Last off topic comment from me:

Berlusconi does have absolute power, as detailed above by tails92.

Mine did too, and it was about gay marriage... hardly the hot bed of debate. Just some good old fashioned sodomy.

She's the conservatives' Nancy Grace. I think Palin is not evil though... just really stupid (or tries to look like it) and reproduced way too much.

I really wish people would stop making retarded ass generalizations about the US. Not everyone is a backwards hillbilly that thinks we need to get involved in every countries affairs. I'm sure we'd love to be done with North Korea, but our involvement in the past is keeping us there because the war is technically not over. If we wanted to turn this into a thread of generalizations I might as well say the British are just a bunch of people who can't think for them selves and do whatever the US requests, the French all surrender, etc etc. Can we keep this related to the actual news without turning this into a pissing match?

Apparently though US ships are going to be doing "previously planned" exercises in the region, hopefully this doesn't just piss off the North Koreans and cause them to fire more missiles.

The North is pretty screwed. Ether they fire more crap at the south and give the rest of the world reason to invade and take over, or they do nothing and starve themselves of food, foreign currency, gifts for elite, and general control over the population. Ether way, they are going to be taken down.

On the other hand, it has given us many important technological advances - computers, radar etc. Obviously it is difficult to say that if there wasn't war none of it would have been invented, but as they say necessity is the mother of invention. Besides, struggle and conflict is the basic fundamental of evolution. I'm not condoning war, but both sides of the coin have problems and there is no perfect solution.

North Korea has over a million troops and most of the budget goes to the military. They have nukes, biological and chemical weapons.

The reason the USA would not attack North Korea is that it would fuck over South Korea. They'd only attack if North Korea tried to invade, which isn't going to happen.

Edit: Also, it's getting very tiresome reading the anti-American tirades on this forum. I live in the USA, and let me tell you, it's nothing like the propaganda the European media feeds people. I'm European, BTW.

Why are the same people that criticize the Iraq conflict and the Afghanistan conflict complaining the USA is not doing anything in North Korea? Those guys need to wake up and look at yourselves. It's pathetic.

You're German, right? Think about what you are saying and the lives your people are responsible for.

I assume you're refering to WW2 again? No need to keep warming that up. There also seem to be lots of people hating on us right now because we're fucking over other countries' economies (which is something that's being completely suppressed in our media). Back when everyone though "Why isn't Germany helping Greece, what's the big holdup?" (no mention of that either), we were discussing if we should help them at all. We're supporters of EU-wide internet censorship. There's many more reasons for people to despise us, get some variety in there guys...

And don't underestimate propaganda. Just as we're not being told a lot of stuff, or getting misinformation, or whatever, are you sure you've got all the real facts about the Korea incident? For example, NK claims SK shot first. How can you be sure it didn't happen that way? Personally I don't see why SK would do that, but still... I'd love to know what the Chinese media have to say about this...
