I thought it would be nice to have a list of possible heard / known N64 unreleased betas. Any ideas? EDIT : LIST Is it just me or is 12 Tales missing? And the 64dd missing ones : Late adds : Dinosaur Planet (Got moved to GC as a Starfox license) Eternal Darkness (Got moved to GC)
This list is a little awkward - it includes all games that weren't released, but includes some games that may have been released in Japan only. Odd. http://n64.icequake.net/mirror/64scener.parodius.com/canned.htm Echo-Delta - Sold on eBay Teo - I'm fairly sure it exists, and as N64, not DD. The seller of Echo-Delta was selling so he could have funds to buy another unreleased game from the same developer (Marigul) and Teo is the only one on that list - and at the time several US sites reviewed it, it was for N64. It's a pet sim, in the same line as Hey You Pikachu - which they also developed. Some of the other games saw releases on other systems (40 winks for example) or came out later (Kirbys Air Ride for example) Have fun.
Wow, Kirby Air Ride would be a great beta to get : that's one of the best exemple of development hell : began on Ultra 64, got released eight years later on GC with only 5 racing tracks and a ugly looking city you can drive in ...
I remember someone claiming to have seen Freakboy in 1997 in some form. I haven't heard about it ever since though. Rev Limit was a crap racer anyway for anyone who has played the unfinished versions - that's why nintendo canned it. Buggy Boogie would be an interesting find, although not much progress was made. Same with Jungle Emperor Leo, on which Shigeru commented that working "with a celebrity" wasn't the best thing and the game went to hell. I know there was a Jurassic Park game being made somewhere along the way, and even got its name in lists although no screenshots. Same holds true for Joust 64 by Midway. The games I d personally love to see would be the unfinished Conker's Quest and the completed 12 Tales: Conker 64. other games come to mind, but i ll let someone else post names too ;D
I second the Conkers and also hope for another Rare game: Banjo-Kazooie. That thing went through some major changes... Any hear anything about a possible BK proto?
yes, the project started as Project Dream. Sometime in planning it was supposed to star the Pirate instead of a bear from what I ve heard.
Well actually we are talking about betas, so I think we could extend it to released games as well.. Thanks for the list!
yes, in an interview it was revealed that 12 Tales was completed and sitting in a shelf. The release date of Conker was suddenly and secretly pushed back a year in order to change the content and make a new game from the ground-up - thankfully, the engine was already there. Rare feared the critics and their comments that Conker was too much like Banjo, but less likeable Also, Banjo-Tooie was under development after the very succesful first game, so it didn't make any sense for rare to have two competing products. Nevertheless, Conker's Bad Fur Day didn't sell as well as expected, outside the US at least, and this was mostly due to poor marketing - I m sure you all know what a diamond of a game it is. PS: 40 winks wasnt released in all regions
List should possibly also have: Dinosaur Planet (Got moved to GC as a Starfox license) Eternal Darkness (Got moved to GC) Dunno if any early versions of "Jet Force Gemini" should be put up on the list or not, the game went through a tiny bit of visual re-design at some stage late in developement, changing some of the "cute/deformed/childish" look of the main chars into a more "serious/mature" look. (Probably wasn't much else that was changed, but perhaps there was less "violent elements" in the old design?)
I really liked the look of the N64 Dinosaur Planet from when I first saw it on a video game tv show. I remember the first bit I saw and it was in a snowy field but I think it was in a purple colour and the player would throw a ball and the little dinosaur would run after it. Pretty cool I thought back then. (^_^)
Cabbage is on the 64DD list now, it was Seaman's precursos and Shigeru's personal favourite pet-project. A lot of its technology went on to propel Hey you! Pikachu
As far as I remember Kirby Air Ride was dumped in some sort of form and I remember seeing a video on youtube of someone playing it on project 64. Great idea for a topic and if any one has and on the list nows the time to come forward
