Buy a GameShark with a parallel port on the back, hook it up to your computer, and get cracking :110: Some of the GameSharks have defects, though, and the parallel port doesn't work. For that reason, I suggest you get an Action Replay Proffessional. It's manufactured by Datel rather than Interact, so the build quality will be better. Buy from this auction (it's where I got mine): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320056641534 The benefit with dumping using a GameShark is that you don't have to worry about pesky copy protection (with the games that are protected, all you have to do is use the key-code; something you're probably familiar with). It also bypasses protection that certain flash carts have. I've written a tutorial on how to back up carts: http://ts.death.angel.googlepages.com/gamesharkstuff Hope this helps :icon_bigg
Thanks a lot TS_Death_Angel! That looks fairly straight forward, easy to do and cheap. I think that will be the route I'll take. I'll be certain to let you know how it turns out!
Does it matter what region my N64 is? All of the Action Replay Pros I can find are in Europe, one auction mentions that it is PAL. Will they work on my NTCS system? Thanks.
Wow that's a great one!! My compliments!! ^^ May I link it from my site?? I always wanted to start a true SNES hacking themed page...
All cheating peripherals for the N64 such as GameShark/Action Replay etc. are universal, so you can use them on a PAL and NTSC N64 :icon_bigg kammedo: Feel free to ^^
Great! ^^ Btw I meant N64 actually, not SNES . Anyway : a disconnected parallel port??? that's rather stupid and antieconomical...no wonder they werent known that much xD
For those with a US Gameshark 3.2 or 3.3 that has stopped working, the most common problem is the HORRIBLE solder job done to the top cartridge socket. As the prongs are barely soldered to the board just using the shark causes the joints to slowly fail. If yours has stopped, take it apart and look for small gaps from the connector to the board and re-solder as needed. I have fixed 8 of them this way. BTW some of the gaps can be hard to see without a magnifying glass.
I was always under the impression it would be a lock on cartridge. swapping carts seems like an okay idea but lock on would make the most sense.
there has been lengthly discussion about Stop n Swop in another section of the forums. Please refer to them for more information. There's plenty of literature and materials in relation to that, as well as pictures. Don't hijack this thread about SnS though
One really great beta recently released on the N64 scene is the Zelda Ocarina Of Time/Master Quest debug version which offers plenty of possibility in its debug functions ! That's quite rare for a first party game to get involved on the beta scene this way
I'm fairly certain that the OOT/MQ "debug roms" are just a hacked roms. (As in, you can trigger that debug yourself by either using a cheat device or doing a little bit of cartridge pulling, and these roms are just hacked to "work around" that, as you can't do cartridge pulling on an emulator) [edit] Search for the word "debug" in this FAQ
Hacked ROMs? Hardly :110: Here's a guide [guide = link, click on it >_<] on the thing. It's basically a European build of Master Quest for the NGC with all of the debugging features enabled and all the data decompressed (so instead of being 256Mbit it's 512Mbit). It also has a few beta maps included, one of which was originally corrupted but has recently been fixed! ^^ So there's my short blurb on the ROM. It's definitely the real thing
Ah, hehe, I forgot this forum allowed posting ROMs as long as they are beta I am uploading, please wait a moment ^^. Here you go: http://multiftp.free.fr/z64/roms/ZELDA_DEBUG_ROM.zip 7zip self-extractor within.
I'm quite surprise to see how discrete this release has been lol... Although it's probably the greatest nintendo beta found yet ! The "director" mode for exemple is something I never saw before !
Great for releasing it  But when I tried several weeks ago to try and get this working PJ64 just hung with it open. Is there anyway to stop that? I'm using version 1.6.
