    Hey there everyone!
I was trying to mod, my Japanese N64.
    Using this turtorial, I http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/ntsc-nintendo-64-rgb/ .
I uptained all the parts, and started to solder everything in to place.
After I was done, I took the N64 to testing!
It turned on fine, but I couldn't really see anything different on screen.
I turned off the console, and was about to pull it out of the wall.
When the whole power supply, simply exploded. It smoked, and made a "pffff" sound.
I opened up the power supply, and it was filled with some grease, problably from the power fuse exploding?
Take a look at the pictures below, If someone can tell me what I did wrong, let me know?!
And if I need a new Supply, or a fuse can fix the blown one?

By the way, I live in Europe, and I used a travel adapter on the Japanese N64 power plug.
Console worked fine with it before the mod. But I thought I should mention it anyway.

    Thank you! - Madsmaten

power supply isn't designed to be run on 220volts, the big capacitor was being run at much higher than its rated voltage, and has overheated and vented as a result.

So a European power supply, would work?

A travel adapter is not enough. You need a stepdown converter to use a Japanese power supply on a 220-240v source. A European power supply will work perfectly.

I have a European Power Supply, for my EUR N64, I could try that one.
But I am afraid that it will explode too :(

No glory then since that one won't spill its guts. I'm using an EU PSU w/ a JP N64 myself, and it works just fine.

    It's external, so it'd work. I use a 220v PSU in my NTSC-J N64 for a long time.

    Just tested!
And it works, with the EUR one!
    So thanks for that!
But I am still only getting, composite, and not RGB picture...
    Any ideas?

Are you using the proper kind of A/V cable, as in one that has the RGB pins connected?

Looks OK to me. Another thread has this though:
...so maybe try removing those resistors I guess? Can't help you all that much with cabling unfortunately, it just worked for me.

That cable is intended for PAL N64 consoles. Scart cables for use with NTSC consoles are wired differently. If you have an official Gamecube scart cable then that will work.

The red wire going to your amp seems to be bridging on a via.

Check if cable has wiring on pin 16 to switch TV to RGB mode. Also not all SCART inputs in TVs are RGB compatible.
