A great way to save money is to do the mods yourself. Maybe then you'll appreciate why people ask for that much money in the first place.

    N64, $45. SNES, $35. Parts, $15.

Realizing you just broke $80 worth of console and now have to shell out $80+ to have it fixed? Priceless.

For everything else there is paying someone to do it right the first time.

But FWIW 80 quid is a bit high IMO (they're a website and for some that means they're more trustworthy and can demand a generally higher price from the public) but dictating the price you want doesn't work at traditional brick and mortars and for most modders it won't work either.

I don't know what's involved with the N64 RGB mod but let's just say we halve it so it's £40 for each mod, that doesn't sound too bad really. The SuperCIC isn't exactly trivial and if I was doing them to order, I'd want a bit of 'insurance money' just in case I ballsed it up and had to replace the board. Lifting a leg of a surface mount chip without breaking it isn't the easiest thing to do.

40 quid still sounds pretty high for an N64 RGB mod, I did them for just $35 and got a decent-sized return since the parts for it aren't very expensive (less than $1 for a THS7314 and a few cents for the three 75 ohm resistors and 0.1 uF cap).

Firstly - flashing exclamation mark? Really?

Are you sure that the console has a NUS-CPU-01, NUS-CPU-02, NUS-CPU-03 or NUS-CPU-04 board? Any later board revisions are not going to be easy to mod, if it can be done.

And the SNES - is it a 1CHIP?

I'll have a look to see if I have all the parts in stock, but I don't think I do... and I won't be placing another order for a couple of weeks.

I can't because I recently quit the modding business and I'm based in the US so it wouldn't be worth it for you to have me mod either system.

I'm in the same boat as ApolloBoy, hell we're only about a 4-5 hour drive apart. Shipping costs make it completely not worth your time to ship it to the US.

As for lifting surface mount pins, yeh it isn't until you get the hang of it. Haven't had trouble lifting them for a while now.

Just practice soldering on a dead board or something , soldering is actually quite easy. Once you get the hang of it you will save a shit load of money.

Even if one never gets to the higher end levels being able to fix basic cords and cables is ridiculously worth it.

He fails to mention he was a complete brat to me in pm when I offered to do it for exactly the price in his first post. I'd not recommend dealing with him.

.-. I wasnt a brat, i just didnt agree with your reasoning.
    go away

I was actually pretty nice, and put myself in your shoes ffs, you were just not being up front,
You said you didnt have the time to mod the console, because your child comes first. Fair doos.
Then you say you will mod it if i pay an extra £20!?? so your child doesnt come first, money does..
you may be older than me, but your reasoning is far inferior. Age really is just a number.

You have no idea how family life works. I would have to barter time from my family to do your console, so the extra money = food for a bbq we can do as a family. You save £40, family gets something from it - everyone wins. Instead you started the whole sob story about how you are only 17 and no job (yet sell the consoles back on gumtree - so its a business). you then tried to guilt trip me into it, questioning the fact that I am a father - you think that wasnt you being a brat?

Ill quite happily post the chat logs. I tried to save you money, sure it was a little extra than I normally charge - but then you come here asking for the exact same price I quoted you. Everyone who has seen them agrees with me - seems your reasoning is off. you also dont seem to be having much luck at the higher price I quoted you (£65, vs my normal £45) - so maybe you should reconsider the fact "I wasnt doing you a favour".

here is the full chat log.

In short, I can charge what ever I want. If you dont agree - you can go elsewhere. Your reply was completely uncalled for, when I wouldnt have even offered to have done it for the £20 more if you hadnt started with the sob story from your first PM - as if the fact you are 17 and unemployed makes my time worth less or something.

I am not taking on work at the moment - ask anyone who has tried to send me any. I have straight refused the work, I dont overly need the money - but I am not going to do it for you "because you are 17 waaa" rather than spending time with my family without there being a little extra involved. So I made you an offer - which was still SAVING YOU MONEY, then you got all personal.

THEN you come here wanting to buy for the same price I offered!

I'm unemployed, and 20. Saying you're unemployed means NOTHING. If you're unemployed, develop the skills and do the mods yourself or maybe spend money more wisely.

If it wasn't for bad, I wouldn't even know how to fix anything. He's taught me a lot, and you should respect and understand his position as well because we all have lives.

I didn't like how you charged me an extra £20 still! If you do 45 for everyone else, 65 is unfair! It doesnt even matter, I wont buy off you, i wont trade with you yadda yadda yadda, please just leave this thread posting long butt hurt paragraphs.

    Bye.

You simply could of just left it. Reminds me of those idiots who buy something expensive and then get upset "YOU RIPPED ME OFF" it's called doing your research.

Understand the REASON he charged you £20 extra... He didn't just charge extra for the fucking sake of it.

I dont do ANY price for anyone at the moment, which is the part you are completely ignoring. I am not taking on work, the £45 price doesn't matter if its not available.

I can assure you, I am not butt hurt. I am quite pleased that I got saved the trouble dealing with you - as I originally offered to do all your modding work.
