I recently purchased a soft mod kit for my Xbox to restore HD resolutions. But the best the kit could give me was 480p, even when going into the softmod settings and selecting "Yes" for 720p and 1080i. When I asked the seller about it, I was then informed that I needed to install Enigmah Video Select on it via FTP program. But I couldn't get my Xbox connected, even using an Ethernet cable. I tried burning the program to DVD-Rs, but the console wouldn't read the disks. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if the console is at fault. The idiot who sold me the kit suggested I try copying Enigmah to the console via USB. Obviously, that didn't work, because the Xbox and PC are formatted differently - the Xbox simply erased the USB stick. I demanded my money back, which was returned only after I filed a complaint to PayPal. I also complained to the seller that if I needed additional software he should have included it on the drive when I told him what I intended on doing with the kit before paying for it. Anyways, my Xbox is currently locked to 480p. I can't even switch it back to 576i. I've tried and tried to get the Enigmah installed, and I'm getting nowhere fast. Does anyone have a working DVD or USB with the Engimah software installed or are you able to burn it to a DVD for me? Thanks.
You can copy stuff to/from an xbox via USB. You have just done it wrong (you need to copy it via homebrew, not the dashboard). Also, if you cant FTP into it, you are again doing something wrong. I feel for the seller in this instance. You softmod your xbox (which is what his kit would do), the rest is then for you to do - its all pubically available on the internet. I dont feel the seller was in the wrong at all. A lot of xboxes wont read burned discs very well (if at all). FTP is the way to do it.
Well, don't. I didn't mention this earlier, but I'll bring it up now - I had other files on the USB that was erased. Since they stopped selling <4GB thumb drives, I used a 2GB one that had. I managed to recover the data, but some of the files were corrupted. I had also followed the exact instructions he had sent me for FTP clients and the like, nothing worked. And when I committed to buy the kit, he contacted me prior to my paying for it to ask if I wanted any emulators sent with the package. I told him I was only interested in restoring HD resolutions to the console. That was made clear repeatedly. If I needed Enigmah, he should have offered to send it with the kit when I made it clear what I wanted to do with the kit. If you have the tools necessary to put Enigmah onto a USB for the Xbox, I'd appreciate it. I'm pretty much at my wits end with this console.
A PAL Xbox can only do 480p max resolution until you run Enigmah to switch to NTSC video mode where 720p and 1080i can be used. USB Thumbdrive SNAFU The Xbox formats any compatible USB thumbdrive you connect to it that's not already formatted with the FATX filesystem to FATX. You should always make a backup of any data on a thumbdrive before plugging it into any Xbox! Burn your own Enigmah Video Switcher Disk From my experience with Xbox's DVD drives, most will not read a disc with only a few megabytes of data written to them. You need to add filler (dummyfile app) and it has to also be an XISO compatible image file burned to the DVD-R. (Add enough filler to fill at least 1/2 of the disc.) You cannot just add the file to a disc and burn it like you would for a PC. Qwix or C-Xbox Tool can be used to create an the XISO image to burn to the disc. Use ImgBurn to burn this XISO image file to DVD-R at 4x speed. (DO NOT download ImgBurn from Digital Digest at least not via the main BIG highly visible download link that they state is "Download Manager Enabled". The download manager they speak of is just a potentially unwanted programs (PUP) installer wrapped around the true ImgBurn installer. Use one of the other download sites - the last directly from ImgBurn suggested.) Or ... There are also several Installer discs that already have Enigmah on them that you can download, extract, burn, boot and run the app on your softmodded Xbox (i.e., HeXEn 2017 menu option 1). Your TV needs to support NTSC video signals. Else, you'll get mad again as possibly like NTSC TVs displaying PAL video output from the Xbox it'll just be a scrolling mess. Making it hard to tell what to do to change back to PAL mode.
If they used my v1.1.2 of my softmod instead of SID, you would have had Region changing built into the NKPatcher Settings menu. ( no need for enigmah anymore ) But by the sounds of it you have what SID normally does and forces 480p by default, so switching to anything lower will result in 480p, 720p and above will override it. Also the reason you cannot set anything above 480p is probably due to the fact most softmods install a virtual eeprom, and this will stop you from changing video regions as well as a few other things. So if there is a folder on E:\ called NKP11 Stick a blank file in there called eeprom_off.bin, this can all be done within UnleashXs file manager.
Same as bad_ad84 I feel for the seller. He sold you a soft mod kit which served its purpose. It softmodded your machine. The rest of it is user error and your lack of knowledge.
Been out the loop. Sounds interesting. Can you send me a copy of your softmod? I had a look in the E-drive. I found a folder called Eeprom, but no NKP11.
