The replacement forum called Geonaf did not last long. First, the old mods started to gather and after some calls for less totalitarian moderation than on Neogaf, the forum is now gone in its entirety.
Let's be honest, nobody and i mean NOBODY liked NeoGAF. They were a really a nasty forum. If anybody wants to see what happend on that faithful day, check Mister Metokur's archived livestream of the event
Sorry, i didn't saw it but man. I know this is not about the topic but The Escapist's forums also has it's days counted but it's for financial reasons unlike what happend here.
Hoist on their own petard Can't say I'll miss it. They had some good threads there from time to time, but the cultish/hivemind fanboy and mod worship was really bizarre. Great for mining salt though.
The site was always a more VIP user version of Reddit to me. And yeah, the site leaned so far to the left that they became a parody of SJWs unto themselves. Too many people outright looking to be triggered just to proudly proclaim they stand in unison with so-and-so minority group, etc. I think quite a few of them had their hearts in the right place, it just doesn't come out right when you're one of the hundreds of others trying to make a topic that covers just the right issue to get a witch hunt going. Which again makes me think of it as just an alternate Reddit. Come to think of it I never really viewed it as a gaming forum that much...
With our new rules they will not last long here. As of now members of ASSEMbler games need to respect one another. No slagging people, no sly comments, no being a dick and no arguing with mods.
That's what i'm betting. Nobody wants to do anything with anybody who were part from the website (which at this point it's pretty much dead). Even Tumblr doesn't want them for pete's sake XD. That's screwed up... And it didn't last long. Only mere hours... Karsten: No multiple posting.
Can i be honest with you guys? Even though i don't know when was ASSEMBLERgames founded, i think it has outlived NeoGAF. I'm dead serious...
Assembler started in the late 90s I think? NeoGAF originally started back in 1999. I wonder what other (personal and not corporate) websites/communities have been around for so long.
I had no idea Neogaf was that old, didn't know about it until like 5 years ago. I would say Gamefaqs, but that was bought over and is owned by CBS now
It's almost like you've never visited gaf before; their rules were even more uptight than here. If you voiced an opinion that wasn't exactly the same as what everyone else was saying, you'd be banned instantly.
Yeah and kind of funny since at that time I was working on Wii/PSP games and had formerly worked on a DS game. I know it could look like I was arguing with a mod but I was arguing about the game and the mod tried to pull mod privilege to get me to shut up about it. Same mod banned other friends who also worked in the game industry (but a few of them deserved it but were able to get back on by validating their credentials. I decided to lurk instead).
It was either a canceled game I can't talk about or Shaun White for Ubisoft. I don't remember exactly what game I was on at that time. The DS games (and gba/ps1 games) that I worked on prior were mostly all shit (worked for smaller studio that does farmed out work for publishers). Nah I think it was for the best. I just end up reading the forums as an aggregate of information and I just keep to other forms like here and another place that is a mix of former gaf/ign users.
Oh I see. I was going to jokingly say it was probably the Petz series or something, and I guess I wasn't wrong presuming
