So, while you guys are busy hijacking this thread to talk about Doom the russians over at gbx.ru have made a proper hack for this console. You can now load X amount of roms on to it. They have software and step by step guides up now.

Is that in the thread mentioned earlier? I don't read russian but from what I can tell it looks like you have to build and flash a complete system image every time you wanna mess with the list of roms...? If that's true, I hope there's a way to stash the savegames somewhere safe before you do, or you'll start over from scratch.

edit: I seem to have missed how they're downloading and rebuilding the whole system each time. That'd take care of the saves, obviously.

Exactly. You're advised to make a backup image first, in case anything goes wrong.

To load the "mod" you have to exploit some kind of save state vulnerability. They're talking about how you (after all is built and flashed) have to load a Super Mario save state in slot 1 in order to execute the mod.

Haven't tested it myself, but seems pretty straight forward :)

Anyone try this with the Famicom version yet? I don't own either Mini yet, but when I get one it'll be the better-looking one with a free extra controller and a place to put them ;)

Don't think so, but even if it was that'd be great, because I kinda dig the skin.

Btw, who's going get the payout if you lose? Will each reader of this thread be getting a fresh $20 bill from you? ;)

You'd be out $20. I just flashed the custom kernel to my NES classic and it works! Hakchi app was amazingly simple to use, too!

I hope this will eventually lead to an improved scanline filter without the retarded composite emulation. What the hell were they thinking?

I always wondered what's the deal with scanline filters?
Is this a NTSC only thing? Any PAL CRT I used in the past didn't have such crazy horizontal lines all over the image. It basically looked more like this.
