    Silly me :].
However for modded consoles I'd use Mini-DIN with XRGB-Mini pinout, it's small enough, easy to fit everywhere.

heh, that's what I mean: a nintendo plug, not a mini-din... looks like I'm just gonna buy some rgb cables and hope for the best, thanks all

edit: how do you open these 3rd party plugs? there are no clips wtf

They are molded in plastic, better not touch plug itself, solder to wires instead.

I need to sort something out here. I am wanting to get the Famicom Expanded audio on my Front Loading US-NTSC NES Console which has Tim Worthington's RGBNES PCM mod fitted, i will be using a Everdrive N8 NES version cart on this system also.

Now this NESRGB mod not only adds RGB video to the NES system it also has a rather good rebuilt mono audio circuit (which is better than the original NES audio circuit). To be able to use this NESRGB audio you have to connect CPU pins 1 & 2 from the NES PCB itself to the 2 channel inputs on the NESRGB PCB labeled Channel A & B, as pictured below.....

Because of this rebuilt audio circuit, it has been suggested that rather than using a 44k resistor to bridge pins 3&9 on the Expansion socket of the NES, instead run a wire (with a 22K resistor attached) from pin 9 of the Expansion socket to the 2 resistors on the NESRGB PCB as pictured below....

But what was also used in the above mod, was the mod to the Famicom2NES adapter which bridges 2 pins....

    [IMG] [IMG]

I dont have this Famicom2 NES adapter as im using the Everdrive N8 NES version (not famicom), i have tried the mod (pin 9 to 2 resistors on the NESRGB pcb) along with the Famicom version of Castlevaina 3 and im sure i was not getting any expanded audio!, so im not sure if this method of mod works with the combination of components i have (Front loading NES, NES Everdrive and NESRGB mod)?? Is there a Famicom game that uses exclusively expanded audio so i cant test for sure if this mod method is working??

Any ideas if i should try just bridging pins 3&9 with a resistor on the expansion port?, as i guess this could work as the NESRGB is taking the audio (from CPU pins 1&2) and then rebuilding the circuit inside the NESRGB and outputing the improved audio to the A/V socket (white wire 2 pictures above). Does the expanded Famicom audio get added before CPU pins 1&2 though or after as if its before i guess this mod wouldnt work either??

You can pry them open with a blade, it will break the tabs holding it together but then you have access to the pins. The trick to remove a pin is to completely remove all solder from it with wick. Then you can push it out, hopefully without damage it. Once you are done just glue the two halves of the connector together.

This technique worked for me, just expect that you might wreck a few pins doing so. I completely destroyed my first cable while trying to understand how to do it.
I ended up needing three 3rd party cables to make a single S-video Snes cable...

I took some pics of the 3rd party SNES AV plug disassembly a while ago. Stuffs me where I talked about it but I have the pics here.

This was from a faulty cable so I was simply going through the actions of doing so.

It will take some time, maybe a few weeks, just be patient.

I was wondering the same. I'm also kinda curious to know how many boards he had made this time.

Yeah, that's what I meant, because 100+ boards is quite a lot (and I think he has much more orders, because I bought early in the morning same day he updated page, but in US Eastern time zone), I wonder how big is his stock...

It was a good 2-3 weeks before he shipped last time. I got a few more boards ordered this time as well, but im not expecting them to arrive for at least a few more weeks.

There is not a lot mentioned about this mod. I was researching which PPU to buy for the old mod when I stumbled across it. I'm glad I did! Under $100 NES RGB mod! It will be interesting to see if the PPUs on eBay drop in price now.

    @omp

the trick worked perfectly on a purple GC rgb cable I had, it was fully pinned as well so I have 12 pins available... plus it uses standard solder-joints so I don't need to mess with extra pins etc... lucky!
Either I will make this scart cable custom for the famicom only (I am thinking of leaving the stock composite-out as-is and making this cable an rgb/svhs/composite one that gets the signals from the NESRGB board) or I'm gonna wire the port with the standard Nintendo pinout, haven't decided yet...

Regarding the composite output from the NESRGB, anyone knows if it's better/worse/same as the stock Famicom-AV output?

    lol!

But awesome work from viletim! Had some great posts on the GamesX forum over the years as well (though he still needs to help me out with my PAL N64 s-video fix ;P ). Upgrading my NES may be something for my future wishist, ugh...

    EDIT:
Just had to "bwhahaha" this one as well XD
