The new project of NG:DEVTEAM (Last Hope) has been revealed in the 3/10 issue of a German magazine called M!Games. The article covers in two pages an interview with one of the programmers (Timm Hellwig) and a description of the game's gameplay mechanics.

I don't want to copy the whole article since the magazine is still for sale (came out this Friday), but I scanned the screenshots of the game for you:

Hope this'll be okay because not every Neo Geo fan all over the world can buy the magazine right away, so they can see at least some pictures of it right here :)
The game is supposedly MVS only so far, but they are thinking about a cheaper "home-version" for shooting fans, without credit count so it would be pointless for game center owners. The plan is to release it with the support of SNK Playmore.

    /EDIT June 2010
There will be three versions: Consumer (MVS kit), Consumer LE (mvs in shockbox w/OST+Poster) & a version especially for game centers.

    Wow it's a shooter, I'm SO surprised.

With Genesis it's RPGs, every other console it's nothing but shooters. It's like people forget platformers exist. At least those games can actually look different once in awhile :/

Well, the NG DEV TEAM brothers gained most of their experience in the shooting genre, so they'd probably end up best by sticking to it. The Neo Geo has never been exactly rich of shooters though. Out of those 100+ games, there are only about 10% shooters.

As for platformers, Giana's Return was released 4 weeks ago, homebrew for the Dreamcast:

I get what you're saying, but you gotta admit people don't seem to know the word variation when it comes to making games for some consoles  Always just irks me when I see a new release and it's inevitably a shooter, probably the most overdone homebrew of them all. I have no position to complain though I guess, it's their choice.

Cool link ave. Nice to see someone actually remembered that platformers are a game genre that can be homebrewed :p

Hopefully it's better then Last Hope, that game was so bad that if you had to rank it against all the other shooters on the Neo Geo it would rank dead last...

Last Hope wasn't that bad but it was way too hard. The DC pink bullets remix is the best version for anyone that's not a nut case super hardcore shooter fan.

Well obviously they have a passion for shooters so they developed one.
Noone is keeping you from creating a platformer - so get to it

You know people can be a critic of things without actually having the skills of doing the thing they're critiquing. I hate it when people use that as a defense, it just doesn't prove anything. It's almost like a slap in the face saying "How dare you have that opinion, why you better be able to do better then, or you have no right say that!" -_-

So I'll say it again: it just would be nice to see something besides shooter, so outdone and they all look the same.

BTW Herman, every single game you've ever played that you didn't like. Well, no one's stopping you from doing better. So yeah...get to it.

How can you critique someones post and then come out with this gem of ignorance?

quoted for truth! Pink Bullets is really fun to play and not too hard to get into. I like it a lot more than the original Last Hope. You also have to consider that this was their first homebrew game ever on a not so easily to program hardware like Neo Geo. There's are reason why there's so few NG homebrew out there, I think many people forget that.

Oh, and I don' think Fast Striker looks like any other shooter. The rendering backgrounds are quite impressive for the NG (yet a bit repetitive I guess), and FS is also the first bulletsprayer for an SNK hardware.

You've never had the joy of playing Ghost Pilots then?

I really didn't enjoy the Dreamcast version of Last Hope and I'd have been gutted if I'd splashed out on the Home Cart version. I can't say I'm impressed with them converting AES/MVS carts when there are other options available either.

As for the game itself, I'm glad to see that there's more Neo Geo/Dreamcast homebrew on the way. I'm sure that the guys will have learnt a lot from their first effort and this will be a much more polished experience from the start.

Maybe you still didn't grasp the concept of someone expressing their OPINION. Really, I don't think it takes much to notice that if you keep getting new releases of the exact same genre over and over, you'll start to tire of it since everything will be playing and practically looking the same. This is just my opinion, believe it or not, but so many shooters inevitably seem to always have the exact same levels, everytime I see a screenshot I can't help but think "Hey, didn't I see this from the last shooter game that was released?"

But again, I'm just saying what I think here. I don't want to get into an argument here with everyone, but it seems people can't understand that if someone thinks that these shooting homebrews have been outdone, they'll feel obligated to say something eventually.

Here's something else to get you guys riled up: I swear all those screenshots at the top look exactly like every other shooter I see announced for an obsolete system. Same level idea, what a surprised also, a bunch of bullets all over the place trying to look pretty. Ugh.

Now go ahead and use very typical comebacks like "Oh I'd like to see YOU do better nyuk nyuk!"

BTW just to be clear I think it's great people are still working on this system. Not many , if any, would even dev a new game for something. I commend them for that. But geez, if I can't at least express my opinion that I personally am tired of seeing shooters, I guess people aren't allowed to critique anything at all. Of course, unless like Herman suggests, I make my own game. Because that's a prerequisite to being able to express an opinion I suppose :)

There's a huge difference between critiquing something and typing a load of old rubbish.

Since your approach seems to be so generic lets apply this to a different genre.

Not another platform game, I'm sick of these characters walking along blocks occasionally jumping on some kind of walking vegitable while picking up coins or some kind of shiny jewel with four frames of animation. The aim of the game is to rescue some naive female who's inevitably been kidnapped. We've seen it all before OMG the humanity of it all.

I love ghost pilots, it's a challenge, esp if you have a debuig rom so you can change the skill level.

    Amen brother!

Although the pink bullets remix is nice, it still doesn't change the fact that playing LH was horrible with hard to see bullets, too much going on in the background so it is hard to see what's foreground and what's background a lot of the time, power ups that fly by at the same speed as you (so no chance of getting them, if you have to avoid bullets) and Amiga like graphics...

Still hope the next game is better!!! Dux on the DC was much better even allowing you to turn down or turn off the backgrounds, played better too, even if the graphics did seem like some rejects from duplo blocks...
