That said, Sony doesn't deserve anyone's business after this debacle. Other options exist.

 

I hate Sony and their shady Business practices as much as the next guy but VITA is quality hardware from the looks of it and it will bring it with the games.

3DS screen is ok but horrible when it comes to 3D (a speck of dust on the screen becomes a bother due to the low res nature of the screen, I've had mine for a long time now). Also slight tilts or rotations destroy the 3d effect (I have a library of 7 retail games and 9 3DSware games). I have seen/used a vita in person.

Not really. Of the JPN launch less then 40% require memory cards and of that 40%, quite a few games are questionable (and nobody has even validated the info that all are src from kotaku of all places).

I've actually been hammering on this for a while on multiple board sites that people should be considering psp games via psn (obviously because I knew of this in advance). I currently have a pretty damn big library of games I can instantly play on a Vita day one (not to mention that PSN store has had pretty great deals on PSP games quite frequently and will continue to do so).

Best to wait and see if they do anything at all. Even so, Big Bulky attachment didn't stop Nintendo with their fantastic way to fix their lack of 2 sticks oversight.

They can't but for good reason. Even as is, what they are given is many times over what 3DS gives and not far off what PS3 gives devs (actually more on the main ram, a bit less on vram). These values are subject to change as sony starts nailing down the OS more over the years and giving more back to games. As well the Vita OS is pretty robust. You can launch ANY part of the OS stuff while a game is running in the background (Psn, messaging, downloading content, near, music, videos, settings, web browser, ...). Not to mention the PSN integration on Vita is far above and beyond what PS3 offers.

What high end device isn't? As well for the kind of tech the 3DS sports, it's sad it's battery life is on par (to slightly worse) as vita.

Bad argument to make there. As a whole. Vita games at launch in japan are actually slightly cheaper then many 3DS games. Even more so when bought over PSN. Both Namco games are actually getting deep discounts if you buy them over PSN in the first few weeks (Ridge racer via PSN at launch is sub 3,000 Yen vs 4,000 at retail vs 6,9000 Yen the 3DS version was at launch).

Pff. Sony recently locked down a bunch of accounts that had suspicious activity going on (story is that some site had passwords & emails leaked and a group was going through them on psn to see what worked). Sony made a public statement about this.

Right now a shit load of people are getting their xbl accounts stolen and points/credit cards used to buy fifa points that are sold off on ebay for cash. Microsoft has done nothing about it other then "I don't know, not on our end" and that is it while people continue to have their accounts hacked daily. Those who find their accounts hacked and contact microsoft are left with them locked out of their accounts for 3-6 weeks. Every time it happens, the pattern is similar (many small purchases of Fifa dlc purchases), you would think after a few MS would be tipped off and flag the account but nah, nothing is done till the end user contacts MS.:shrug:

Not really. It keeps going with new topics hitting neogaf daily and it's always the same in every case. Account stolen and primarily Fifa DLC purchased.

Quite a few game news sites have been picking up the story over the past few weeks.

If you feel so safe, load up your account with tons of XBL Points and see if anything ever happens over the next few weeks. :evil:

I'm in the same boat as Yakumo. No time for portables. I drive EVERYWHERE. And playing portables out in public just seems kinda antisocial. I hate it when I go to a show or something (like a concert) and everyone is just hanging out before the bands play and EVERYONE is just staring at their phones. It's super lame.

 

Sony's also facing the same challenge. I've said it before, but there are lots of games on handhelds like puzzle games that can easily be played on cell phones and tablets too, and why pay $40 for something you can get for $3? In fact, a lot of people are asking themselves "Why should I buy a handheld console when I can just play games on my phone?".
The handheld market will most likely be dead in a few years.

The 3DS is starting to go down in price pretty quick, some stores have had price drop signs up.:clap:
I'll be getting both systems just for collection purpose (as usual ;-))

Also, I'm not sure if this bothers anyone else but staring at a 90% white background for 7 minutes makes me feel like I'm going blind.

 

They announced a 3DS Smash Brothers game at E3 (as well as a Wii U SSB game). I've read since that development hasn't even started yet, though.

The only wrong thing is how Nintendo are starting to act now, releasing hardware too early with poor quality/rushed games, and then blaming the customers.

I like my 3DS, I have the money to buy games, but so far the only game that actually have entertained me is Zelda, now the 3DS is in the closet.

 

What's wrong with me? The only interesting games for the 3DS haven't come out yet. Also, Xenoblade and region locking.

 

Honestly it just feels like with vita you get more of your moneys worth for what it has. But I agree that android and iphone gaming has taken that market. Expect gaming only portable to be a thing of the past. Nintendo betting the farm on a 3d screen plus launching at a high price in a bad economy = marketing disaster. Believe me they are shitting bricks right now. If the wii u is a failure don't be surprised if they seriously go to software only, it actually be better for them financially especially with their casual approach lately.

 

A future of crappy android and iphone games does fill me with dread though. For every 1 good game there is there is 999 crap ones and 9000 odd shovelware games.

 

that commercial seemed really awful, he was sweating a lot too. the gimmicks and games they showcased seemed really lack luster. with the exception of the original gameboy i play my hand helds less and less. ...i was really excited about a new tetris game but the 3ds one is really ugly and uninspired. i dont know, i think im done with nintendo and pretty much done with hand helds altogether the games in large seem to be junk.
