True, but I have a feeling a slot1 home brew program will come out to alter the software and allow the use of the SD slot for piracy/homebrew :icon_bigg

(Kinda like flashme for the ds fat and lite)

it is my guess and soon it will be confirmed I trust, that the CPU has been upgraded, featuring the security on-chip and offering a boost with regard browsing etc (Else browsing on the DSi wouldnt make much sense I guess). A sort of compatibility mode will be in place obviously for the standard DS software stuff similar to how the Wii deals with GC titles.

It will be hacked in no time, and with everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, even the kind that wouldn't get a modchip for a PSone, getting a R4 you can bet this DSi will be a pirate's favourite...

I'll wait for a DS2: new hardware, higher specs, and multitouch for sure.

I'm going to assume DSi Opera will also be as useless as it is on the Wii. It was just a lazy port job. Look at Safari on the iPhone. Much slower CPU than Wii, nowhere near the gfx, yet iPhone Safari stomps all over it. THey need to optimize that shiat. Same with the PSP browser.

I don't know how anyone can use it for anything other than to show friends that it can do it, then exit out and play games and forget all about it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.A handheld gaming device should not be anything else rather than a gaming device. You wanna listen to some music?Go buy a MP3 player, the DS is too big to carry it around. You want a camera?Yeah a 5MP camera costs about 70 euros here in Greece,if you pull out a DS and try to take pictures everyone will laugh at you.
Yeah I'm gonna wait for a DS 2.It's just not worth it.

If the DSi has more RAM and/or CPU power it will be an even bigger target for hacking. I'm sure homebrew developers would welcome more computing power and RAM.

Even I know that gaming handhelds are best suited for gaming only.. but some people out there would like multi-functionality and I do understand that desire.

However, I myself know that I'd rather have a Zune for music, a cell phone for calls, a digital camera for pictures, and a DS or Pandora for portable gaming. Nothing beats the focused functionality of dedicated devices.

Still, the DSi is for people who can't be arsed to carry around multiple devices and I don't blame them.

FYI I heard from a good source that the CPU did get a boost but it is the same CPU just at 2x clock speed. As to state the obious, only dsi software can use the full speed. The ram also got a boost but everything else remains the same. So pretty much dsi software won't look all that different from ds software

BTW, can you run homebrew from the SD? did the japanese crack it already?

Dude, since you're a dev, would be too much trouble to prepare games to take advantage of such future hardware updates?

No pun intended, I just think it would be a neat idea...

Too expensive for me, and not enough novelty or difference.

I m waiting to see some DSi software samples. Also, I have an NTSC-US Wii and the DSi account shares Nintendo points with the Wii account if it's the same..and that's convenient, but I live in Europe. Might end up buying a couple =/

I might buy a DSi after seeing one today but i'm still on the fence. I barely play my old DS at all but i'm interested in what shows up on DSiware. And for that I will probably get my hands on an import DSi insted of a USA unit.

Umm.. To use the features of the DSi (more ram, more cpu), the software has to be for DSi only. I'm not working on any DS software to actualy have direct access to the DSi docs to see the full details on how this all works. So really there isn't a way for a DS developer to program their software to take advantage of the DSi as far as I know.

Btw, I actualy work on PSP software (use to do DS long long ago but truthfuly, DS programming sucks balls. It's what was god awful about the GBA with all the actual fun taken out, ie crapy wrapper functions insted of just writing directly to the registers).
